Oakland Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) will no longer grip the bat with the knob nestled in the palm of his hand. There is thought that holding the knob in the palm might have contributed to the strained hand muscle that put him on the disabled list this month.

Oakland Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) was able to swing a fungo bat Tuesday, May 22, and he might swing a regulation bat Wednesday, May 23. He is estimated to be at least one week from returning from the 15-day disabled list.

Updating a previous item, Oakland Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (wrist) won't come off the disabled list when he's eligible Tuesday, May 22. Cespedes, who has a brace around his strained left wrist, said he hopes to take batting practice at some point this week.

Updating previous reports, Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) has not yet been cleared to resume hitting, although he could receive permission as soon as Monday, May 21. Cespedes is eligible to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 22, but that appears unlikely at this point.

The Oakland Athletics placed OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) on the disabled list more as a precautionary move. "It's not a bad injury. It's an injury that I can come back from quickly," Cespedes said.
