Mets | Michael Conforto to play some RF

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 12:16:33 -0800

New York Mets OFs Michael Conforto and Alejandro De Aza are expected to be exposed to right field in spring training, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson doesn't expect OF Yoenis Cespedes to play any right field. Conforto played right field seven times as a freshman in college in 2012 but has mainly played in left. De Aza has appeared for 52 starts in his career in right field. Cespedes could play center field against righties and left field against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: The future is bright for the lefty swinging Conforto after he slugged nine home runs in just 56 games in his first taste of major league action. He'll be in a platoon role in the outfield for New York, and he must improve against lefties (.214/.267/.214) before he'll become anything more than a late-round selection in deep mixed leagues.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes contract details

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 12:18:32 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes' three-year, $75 million contract will pay him $25 million annually, according to a source. However, if he decides to opt out after the 2016 season, he will make $27.5 million because the deal is front-loaded with a bonus. Cespedes' contract contains a full no-trade clause and does not include deferred money.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes should be viewed as a high-end OF2 in mixed fantasy baseball leagues. He hit .291 with 35 home runs and 105 RBIs in 159 regular-season games with the Tigers and Mets last year.

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 20:31:56 -0800

Updating a previous story, free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) has agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $75 million to return to the New York Mets, according to sources. The deal includes an opt-out option after one year and a full no-trade clause.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes ultimately decided to return to the Mets rather than sign with the Washington Nationals. He has excellent power, and he is a strong OF2 heading into 2016.

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 06:09:31 -0800

Free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) is discussing a three-year deal with the New York Mets that includes an opt-out clause after the first year.

Fantasy Tip: Ken Rosenthal said on MLB Network's Hot Stove Friday morning that Cespedes is torn between the Washington Nationals' offer and the Mets. Either way, he's a high-end OF2 in fantasy.

Nationals | Yoenis Cespedes may land in Washington

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 11:29:12 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) is being pursued heavily by the Washington Nationals, who are pushing to get a deal done. The Nationals may be willing to go five years for $100 million to sign him.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes would be a beast in that lineup, and he's a low-end OF1 or a high-end OF2 in fantasy.

Nationals | Washington making run at Yoenis Cespedes

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 08:58:54 -0800

The Washington Nationals are making a run at signing free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), according to major league sources. The Nationals also made runs at Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward and Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton before they signed elsewhere. The Nats offer is said to be less than what Upton received from the Tigers. The New York Mets and Chicago White Sox are also interested in Cespedes, but they are only willing to give him a three-year deal.

The question with Cespedes in Washington would be where he would play. If he were to sign, either Cespedes or OF Bryce Harper would likely play center field. A trade of OF Jayson Werth appears highly unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes should already be viewed as a top-tier second fantasy outfielder, and a move to Washington would only bolster his value and price on draft day. Hitting in a lineup with 2015 MVP Harper is really scary.

Padres | SD showing interest in Yoenis Cespedes

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 17:01:06 -0800

The San Diego Padres are monitoring the market for free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), according to a source. However, a deal between the two sides is unlikely to occur.

Fantasy Tip: More than 10 MLB teams have been connected to Cespedes this offseason, who makes an attractive free-agent pickup because any team that signs him would not have to give up a draft pick as compensation. He should be viewed as a high-end OF2 in all fantasy formats, regardless of where he lands.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes could still re-sign

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 09:01:33 -0800

The New York Mets continue to have discussions about re-signing OF Yoenis Cespedes, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. The Mets appear to have their outfield locked down with OF Michael Conforto in left field, OFs Juan Lagares and Alejandro De Aza in center and OF Curtis Granderson in right. New York should have the money to get a deal done with Cespedes after spending a combined $35.5 million on four free agents this offseason. If the Mets re-sign Cespedes, he'd likely have to play center field.

Fantasy Tip: No matter where Cespedes lands, he'll be a top-end second outfielder in fantasy circles after his awesome 2015 season with the Detroit Tigers and Mets.

Astros | Houston may consider Yoenis Cespedes

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 00:59:17 -0800

Free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) has drawn some interest from the Houston Astros now that OF Justin Upton signed with the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Although Houston may not need Cespedes with that great, young hitting staff, it wouldn't hurt to kick the tires. He'll be drafted high in mixed leagues and also in high rounds of whichever league he ends up in.
