Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison, Jesse Chavez might be fifth starter

The Toronto Blue Jays will need a fifth starter Saturday, April 20, and the likely candidates are in the rotation with Triple-A Las Vegas. SP Jesse Chavez is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA and SP Drew Hutchison is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA at Las Vegas. SP Joel Carreno, who started April 8 against the Cleveland Indians, started Wednesday, April 18, for Vegas, and is likely out of the running for Saturday.

P Aaron Laffey is an unlikely candidate because he was optioned last Friday.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell praised P Drew Hutchison for his effort Friday, March 23. He allowed one run and two hits over four innings. "I thought what Hutch did was outstanding, facing some regulars in the lineup for a couple of innings there," Farrell said. "He's got such good fastball command. He can get outs inside the strike zone. He pitches ahead in the count."
