Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison facing Detroit Thursday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 13:29:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison is starting against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, July 7, after scheduled starter SP Marco Estrada (back) was placed on the disabled list Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison should be viewed as a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option Thursday. The intrigue is his career 21-7 record, 3.58 ERA and 8.6 K/9 at Rogers Centre, however, Detroit also stands as a daunting opponent. Looking ahead, Hutchison could join the Toronto rotation at some point down the stretch and is a potential add and stash in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays | Ryan Goins placed on disabled list

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 11:34:46 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed INF Ryan Goins (forearm) on the 15-day disabled list due to right forearm tightness. He sustained the injury while making an emergency relief appearance during the 18th inning of the game versus the Cleveland Indians Friday, July 1, but isn't expected to miss more than the minimum number of days. In corresponding moves, the club optioned RP Bo Schultz to Class AAA Buffalo, while recalling RPs Drew Hutchison and Aaron Loup from Buffalo.

Fantasy Tip: Goins was batting just .176 with three home runs and 12 RBI through 159 at-bats and isn't worth stashing in most formats. Hutchison will be used by the parent club as a long reliever and Loup as a left-handed specialist, so neither pitcher possesses much fantasy value.

Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison will join rotation

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 14:11:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison will join the starting rotation when SP Aaron Sanchez begins pitching out of the bullpen, according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: If you need pitching, Hutchison is worth a grab and stash in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. He sports a solid 3.12 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 75 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings for Class AAA Buffalo. Still, there is no timetable for when he'll rejoin the Toronto rotation, so don't pin your hopes on Hutchison.

Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison heading down

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:43:17 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays plan to option SP Drew Hutchison to Class AAA Buffalo Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a spot start Sunday. He might be back at some point, but drop him in all fantasy formats and avoid him in DFS.

Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison returning to minors

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:48:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison is expected to be optioned to the minors Monday, April 25, but because he has three-plus years of Major League Baseball service, he first has to clear optional waivers.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts through 5 2/3 innings during his win over the Oakland Athletics Sunday, April 24. He has fantasy potential, but he doesn't have a starting job or roster spot in the majors right now. He is currently nothing more than a potential stash candidate in AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison facing Oakland Sunday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:04:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison will be recalled from Class AAA Buffalo to start against the Oakland Athletics Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison couldn't find any traction on the road last season and returned a disastrous 9.83 ERA and 2.06 WHIP through 14 away games, which can sink a weekly lineup in a hurry. He is talented, though, as proven by his 2.91 home ERA last season, so there is upside. View Hutchison as a high-risk, high-reward start in all fantasy formats Sunday, and he could be worth a speculative flier as a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues if he has a solid outing Sunday.

Blue Jays | Toronto could use six starters

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 17:03:52 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are entertaining the idea of temporarily using a six-man rotation, in order to limit the number of innings that SPs Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman will throw this season. SP Drew Hutchison, who is currently pitching for Class AAA Buffalo, is the most likely candidate to be used as a sixth starter, although RPs Gavin Floyd and Jesse Chavez (back) could also step into the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Toronto's starters lead the majors in innings pitched (95) and the team is in the midst of a stretch where they play 29 games in 30 days, hence the desire to add another starter. Hutchison is worthy of consideration for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues if he gets promoted. Manager John Gibbons views Floyd as a pitcher only capable of throwing one to three innings at this point and Chavez has been battling a sore back recently, so they appear less likely to be used in starting roles.

Blue Jays | Drew Hutchison leaves game early

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 12:00:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison (head) left the game early Sunday, March 27, after he was hit in the head by a throw from C A.J. Jimenez. Hutchison was able to walk off the field with the team's trainer.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has been solid during spring training but may not make the 25-man roster. Hutchison would be an AL-only option if he makes the team but most owners can avoid him.
