The San Diego Padres hired Alonzo Powell as assistant hitting coach Thursday, Nov. 17. He'll work under hitting coach Phil Plantier.

The San Diego Padres have named Phil Plantier as their new hitting coach. He had been the hitting coach, and later manager, of Class A Lake Elsinore during the 2011 season.
