Astros | Collin McHugh looks for rebound

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 18:19:13 -0700

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh is set to start Thursday, June 18, against the Colorado Rockies. He was rocked for eight earned runs and nine hits over three innings last time out, and he has served up four homers over his past two outings, and six homers over his past four starts.

Fantasy Tip: McHugh ($5,900; or 11.8% of cap) had lasted at least six innings in five straight starts, and nine of 11, before his outing June 13. Considering the fact McHugh is working at Coors Field you should take a pass on him in FantasyScore.

Astros | Collin McHugh credits diet for success

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 18:17:42 -0700

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh spent most of his life with a stomach pain that was never medically addressed. He decided to cut out gluten and immediately felt better. Since his diet change, shortly after coming over to the Astros, he has transformed from a subpar pitcher to a bona fide major league starter. He estimated he lost 25 to 30 pounds and noticed an improvement in stamina right away.

Fantasy Tip: McHugh posted a 2.73 ERA last season, and he has a 5-2 mark with a 4.24 ERA this season while striking out 52 over 63 2/3 innings. At $6,700 (or 13.4% of cap) in FantasyScore he is a solid option most nights.

Astros | Collin McHugh likes Safeco

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 11:14:28 -0700

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh is 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA in two career starts against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. He has allowed one run in 14 2/3 innings in those two starts with 16 strikeouts. He gave up just one hit in eight innings in his last start there last September. McHugh is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: It's a small sample size for McHugh ($5,000, 10.0% of cap), but he should be considered a strong play at FantasyScore at this pitcher's park. McHugh has shown that last year wasn't a fluke.

Astros | Collin McHugh penciled into rotation

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 16:35:59 -0700

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh will start the third or fourth game of the season, according to manager A.J. Hinch.

Fantasy Tip: While this comes as no surprise, it'll be interesting to see how McHugh follows up his breakout 2014 campaign. He returned 11 wins with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and 157 strikeouts over 154 2/3 innings through his 25 starts last season. While his underlying stats checked out last season (3.83 K/BB, 0.8 HR/9, 3.17 FIP), regression should still be expected. He is worth considering in the late middle rounds of drafts as a mid-range fake starter.

Astros | Collin McHugh expects to make next start

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 09:46:14 -0700

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh (forearm) is expecting to make his next start after suffering a bruised left forearm Monday, Sept. 15, when he was hit by a line drive in the seventh inning against the Cleveland Indians. "It got me kind of in the meat of my wrist," he said. "It scared me a little bit at first because my hand kind of clenched up, but for the most part it was one of those things. It was a blessing it hit me there instead of some other places. It will be nice and sore with a good bruise for the next few days." McHugh won his six straight decision in his last seven starts against the Indians and has give up two earned runs or less in nine straight starts and hasn't walked a hitter in his last four starts over a span of 29 1/3 innings.
