Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers is continuing a career resurgence at Triple-A Nashville. Fiers struck out 12 over eight innings, retired 14 consecutive batters at one point and improved to 3-0 on the season for Nashville on Saturday, April 19. He became the first Sounds player to strike out 12 since Yovani Gallardo on June 21, 2007. Fiers' ERA is 0.87, and he's struck out 26 batters against two walks, leaving his WHIP at 0.73.
Fantasy Tip: Considering his 2013 was a hellish nightmare that included the death of his mother, a fracture in his pitching arm and his demotion to the minors, Fiers may be playing himself back into a potential spot start or two should he keep up the good work. It is worth monitoring Fiers in daily leagues should the starter earn a callup, and it may be worth stashing him away on your bench in deeper leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers minor league SP Mike Fiers (arm), currently playing for Triple-A Nashville, suffered a broken right arm after he was struck on the forearm by a line drive off the bat of Kevin Kouzmanoff Saturday, June 15. He is expected to be sidelined for nine to 12 weeks.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The club has recalled P Tyler Thornburg from Triple-A Nashville to take Estrada's place on the roster. Writer Tom Haudricourt speculates that Thornburg was probably called up to take Estrada's next turn, which comes on Saturday, June 8, against the Philadelphia Phillies, unless Milwaukee needs him out of the bullpen beforehand.
Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how long Estrada will be sidelined, but it could be more than the minimum based on previous reports. Thornburg is an interesting prospect, but as Haudricourt notes, he's not had a good season for the Sounds, so fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach. The Brewers could end up recalling and going with Mike Fiers, who has also disappointed this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers called up 2B Scooter Gennett from the minors Monday, June 3, and optioned SP Mike Fiers in a corresponding move.

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse (elbow) is missing his start on Saturday, May 25, because of irritation in his right elbow. He began experiencing discomfort in the joint "two or three starts ago," according to manager Ron Roenicke. Lohse is tentatively scheduled to return to the rotation for one of the team's games against the Minnesota Twins next week.
Roenicke indicated that the club's choice to skip Lohse is precautionary, because he didn't go through spring training. The manager said he hopes it's not a big deal, because Lohse didn't seem too concerned.
Any time an elbow issue pops up for a pitcher, of course it'll cause worry.
Fantasy Tip: This sounds as if it will turn out to be nothing major, but fantasy owners won't get a better idea until there's an update following whatever side work Lohse does or treatment he has. Missing spring training alone isn't a reason to skip a start, so it calls into question Milwaukee's decision-making just a little. Mike Fiers, who's scheduled to take Lohse's turn on Saturday, may stick around longer if the problem is more serious than hoped.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse (elbow) has right elbow irritation and will miss his next start. P Mike Fiers will make the start.
Fantasy Tip: Hopefully, one missed start, and perhaps a cortisone injection will do the trick for Lohse. Lohse is 1-5 with a 3.76 ERA and has a string of bad luck, stemming back to his struggles with free agency. Fiers had a good stretch of starts last season and showed promise. He's worth a pickup in NL-only leagues.

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed RP Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder tendinitis. In a corresponding move, the team recalled SP Mike Fiers from Single-A Brevard County.

The Milwaukee Brewers optioned SP Mike Fiers to Triple-A Nashville Thursday, April 18.

The Milwaukee Brewers need a fifth starter Saturday, April 20, against the Chicago Cubs, for the first time in two weeks. They have not yet named a probable pitcher, as SP Mike Fiers struggled in his first appearance April 6. It might be Fiers Saturday, manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday, April 16, or it could be a Triple-A call-up.
Fantasy Tip: Fiers put up solid numbers last season when given the chance, but he cannot be trusted in anything but the deepest of NL-only fantasy if he is tabbed for the start. Hiram Burgos and Tyler Thornburg are options from the minors.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that SP Mike Fiers has made the rotation, and SP Chris Narveson (shoulder) will begin in the bullpen. There is concern with Narveson's surgically repaired left shoulder, although manager Ron Roenicke said he is fine. "We want to back off him a little bit," Roenicke said. "He's OK, but he's really been pushing through this thing in spring training, through the surgery. In the long run, it's probably going to help him out to limit his innings at the start." Narveson went 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in five starts and 18 spring innings while striking out 10 and walking six. Narveson will piggyback SP Kyle Lohse in Lohse's first start of the regular season, which will likely come in the second series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fantasy Tip: Fiers has promise even though he ran out of gas at the tail end of last season. He can neutralize left-handed sticks and is worth consideration in deep enough mixed leagues to round out your pitching staff.
