Blue Jays | Toronto looking for starting pitching

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:56:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo, Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake, San Diego Padres SPs Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers, Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren and Detroit Tigers SP David Price are all on the radar of the Toronto Blue Jays as the trade deadline approaches.

Fantasy Tip: All of these names would be significant upgrades to the Blue Jays' current staff. However, for some, a move to hitter-friendly Toronto would be a downgrade to their fantasy value.

Blue Jays | TOR scouting wide variety of pitchers

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 12:43:44 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at several pitchers in their quest to land a starter, according to baseball sources. Pitchers mentioned include Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija, Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake, Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers, San Diego Padres SP's Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross.

Fantasy Tip: The Blue Jays are trying long and hard to improve their starting pitching, and other pitchers like Mat Latos and Dan Haren are also on this list. The odds of the Blue Jays landing one of these starters might be quite nice, thanks to how wide the net is.

Blue Jays | Toronto interested in Mike Fiers

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 14:02:17 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers is a player the Toronto Blue Jays have pursued in a trade but nothing is close at this point, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Blue Jays are believed to be looking for a starting pitcher before the trade deadline, so the interest in Fiers ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is understandable. Fiers has a 3.79 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 107 innings and is a good option on FantasyScore against certain opponents.

Brewers | Mike Fiers fans seven

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:21:55 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers struck out seven batters while allowing two runs on four hits and two walks through six innings during the Brewer's 3-2 win over the New York Mets Tuesday, June 23. Fiers did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) is up to 89 strikeouts over 80 innings this season, and he has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his past nine starts. For the season, he has a 4.39 ERA and 3.74 FIP, so fantasy owners should expect more of the same going forward. At FantasyScore, he checks out as a value No. 2 pitching option in favorable matchups.

Brewers | Mike Fiers to pitch on short rest

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:42:10 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers will pitch on short rest Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has an 11.0 K/9 but also a 4.63 ERA in nine starts this year, and he'll be a risk/reward option on FantasyScore tomorrow, especially on short rest. The Giants have been a much more feared offensive club ever since the return of Hunter Pence.

Brewers | Mike Fiers continues Wrigley mastery

Sat, 02 May 2015 15:52:49 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers has six hits, one earned run, three walks and 26 strikeouts in his last two starts at Wrigley Field.

Fantasy Tip: While this is a narrow stat, the bigger news for Fiers ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is he appears to be righting the ship following an awful 0-3 start. He had six strikeouts against the St. Louis Cardinals in his previous start, so Fiers' numbers look better.

Brewers | Mike Fiers to get on track?

Fri, 01 May 2015 16:50:45 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers will make the start Saturday, May 2, against the Chicago Cubs. Fiers went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts against the Cubs last season.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers could be a sneaky play at $4,600 (or 9.2% of cap) given his past success against the Cubs. If you're looking to save a little FantasyScore salary so you can load up on batters, remember Fiers Saturday.

Brewers | Mike Fiers to throw Thursday

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 11:38:32 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers (shoulder) will pitch again in spring training Thursday, March 26, according to manager Ron Roenicke. That would line Fiers up to be the team's No. 4 starter with a season debut April 10 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers has high strikeout upside in the Brewers rotation, and he's worth a late-round stab in mixed leagues. At home against the Pirates in his first start may not be the chance to take a chance on him at FantasyScore, though, for $5,800 (11.6% of cap).

Brewers | Mike Fiers should be ready

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 11:03:05 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers (shoulder) is expected to be fine to open the season in the starting rotation, according to manager Ron Roenicke. However, that could include moving him back or skipping one of his turns.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers went 6-5 with a 2.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 9.5 K/9 in 10 starts in 2014. His upside is tangible, and he'll be worth a late-round pick in standard drafts this year with a guaranteed rotation spot in his hands.

Brewers | Mike Fiers could pitch as soon as Sat

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 16:47:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers (shoulder) had a successful bullpen session Thursday, March 19, and he could pitch in a game as soon as Saturday, March 21. The precise plan is to be determined.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers is a solid late-round flier after striking out more than a batter per inning (9.54 K/9) and tallying a 2.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP last season.
