Sat, 11 May 2013 17:29:10 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers have placed RP Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder tendinitis. In a corresponding move, the team recalled SP Mike Fiers from Single-A Brevard County.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 12:42:15 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers optioned SP Mike Fiers to Triple-A Nashville Thursday, April 18.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 18:54:14 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers need a fifth starter Saturday, April 20, against the Chicago Cubs, for the first time in two weeks. They have not yet named a probable pitcher, as SP Mike Fiers struggled in his first appearance April 6. It might be Fiers Saturday, manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday, April 16, or it could be a Triple-A call-up. Fantasy Tip: Fiers put up solid numbers last season when given the chance, but he cannot be trusted in anything but the deepest of NL-only fantasy if he is tabbed for the start. Hiram Burgos and Tyler Thornburg are options from the minors.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 16:03:53 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers announced that SP Mike Fiers has made the rotation, and SP Chris Narveson (shoulder) will begin in the bullpen. There is concern with Narveson's surgically repaired left shoulder, although manager Ron Roenicke said he is fine. "We want to back off him a little bit," Roenicke said. "He's OK, but he's really been pushing through this thing in spring training, through the surgery. In the long run, it's probably going to help him out to limit his innings at the start." Narveson went 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in five starts and 18 spring innings while striking out 10 and walking six. Narveson will piggyback SP Kyle Lohse in Lohse's first start of the regular season, which will likely come in the second series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy Tip: Fiers has promise even though he ran out of gas at the tail end of last season. He can neutralize left-handed sticks and is worth consideration in deep enough mixed leagues to round out your pitching staff.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 07:15:06 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers is likely to begin the season in the bullpen. Fantasy Tip: That means Wily Peralta likely has the last spot in the rotation and Fiers' fantasy value plummets. He had a nice season last year, but he'll have to wait for an injury to rekindle much of it this year.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:03:21 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse will make $4 million this year with $7 million deferred to 2016-2018, plus $11 million in each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He can make an extra $1.05 million in performance bonuses; $350,000 each for the three seasons that he tops 190 innings. The team is already set in their rotation with SPs Yovani Gallardo, Marco Estrada, Wily Peralta, Chris Narveson and Mike Fiers. They may choose to carry Lohse as part of their 13-man staff to begin the year, and Lohse said he should be game-ready shortly. Fiers and Peralta have minor league options left, so they are the most likely to be bumped from the rotation to make room for Lohse when he's ready. Both young pitchers have struggled this spring, too. Fantasy Tip: Now that Lohse has a team to pitch for, he's definitely worthy of a draft pick in all formats. He has excellent control, but isn't as dominant as 2012 suggests. He also has struggled in his career at Miller Park, confines not as friendly to hurlers as his old digs in St. Louis.
Sun, 17 Feb 2013 20:00:18 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers special assistant Dick Groch calls RPs John Axford, Mike Fiers, Jim Henderson and Brandon Kintzler the "K-Mart group," as the four players cost the team a combined $3,500 to bring into the organization. In 2009, Fiers, a 22nd round pick, received a $2,500 signing bonus, while Kintzler was purchased from St. Paul of the Independent League for $1,000. Axford and Henderson were signed after being released from other teams, and didn't cost the team anything. However, all four are expected to play meaningful roles in Milwaukee this season.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 11:55:05 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SP Mark Rogers is out of minor league options, meaning he will most likely be on the team's opening day roster barring an injury. Rogers is the only pitcher on the squad that is vying for a starting rotation spot that is out of options. "Clearly, we can't get him back to the minor leagues, so we're really focused on trying to get him as an active member of this pitching staff," assistant general manager Gord Ash said. SPs Chris Narveson, Wily Peralta and Mike Fiers are also competing for spots in the rotation.
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 11:34:53 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hinted that SP Wily Peralta is the favorite to win the No. 3 spot in the starting rotation, behind SPs Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada. This would leave SPs Chris Narveson, Mike Fiers and Mark Rogers to battle for the final two spots in the rotation.
Sun, 30 Dec 2012 22:56:07 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers Ps Mike Fiers, Wily Peralta and Mark Rogers each proved in 2012 that they could pitch at the Major League level, but questions remain whether they can pitch successfully in the Majors over the course of a full season. All three will be in the mix for one of four open rotation spots behind SP Yovani Gallardo. Fiers and Peralta have options remaining, while Rogers is out of options.
