Astros | Mike Fiers has solid outing

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 05:12:00 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings against the Oakland Athletics Friday, April 29. He struck out five batters during the game and did not walk any batters.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers had his longest outing of the season Friday but has allowed seven home runs in his five starts this season. He is scheduled to face the Minnesota Twins in his next start but may not be the best pitcher for owners to use in their lineups.

Astros | Mike Fiers settles down a bit

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 15:58:59 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts Sunday, April 17, against the Detroit Tigers. Fiers had allowed eight runs and three home runs over 11 innings during his first two starts.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers is a decent fantasy option thanks to the loaded Astro lineup, but he may have needed some time to shake off the spring rust. Keep him in mind for your lineup.

Astros | Mike Fiers beat up

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:56:28 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers gave up eight hits, six runs and walked two in 4 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves in spring action Tuesday, March 22, and he's allowed 13 hits and eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings in his two starts against Atlanta.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers is competing with Scott Feldman and Doug Fister for the final two rotation spots, so this doesn't bode well for his chances. Fiers throws heat and can induce frequent swings and misses, but he remains inconsistent and isn't worth owning in mixed leagues right now.

Astros | Houston's rotation competition

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 12:08:33 -0800

Houston Astros SPs Mike Fiers, Scott Feldman and Doug Fister are competing for the final two rotation spots this spring. Feldman and Fister are making a combined $15 million this year, which might make Fiers the odd-man out, even after he threw a no-hitter in 2015. Feldman's sprained right shoulder ended his 2015 season, but he said he's feeling better than ever this year.

Fantasy Tip: Fister's drop in velocity and inability to continue to induce plenty of ground balls hurts his fantasy value heading into 2016 in a much more dangerous hitter's park. Feldman's injuries make him even more of a risk. Fiers has the most upside of the bunch and is a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues for his strikeout abilities.

Astros | Mike Fiers follows up no-no nicely

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 05:43:11 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five batters during the Astros' 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, Aug. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Over his four starts with Houston, Fiers ($7,800 15.6% of cap) owns a 0.67 ERA with 24 punchouts over 27 innings, including his no-hitter Friday, Aug. 21. Fiers is worth owning in all seasonal formats at this point, and he is a matchup play at FantasyScore. Just keep your expectations in check because he has been inconsistent in the past and is likely pitching a touch over his head of late.

Astros | Mike Fiers tosses no-hitter

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 21:02:05 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, Aug. 21, striking out 10 and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: After a rocky debut with the Astros, Fiers ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has been stellar in three straight starts, allowing one earned run over 21 innings. He is a great play at his current price tag at FantasyScore.

Astros | Mike Fiers to start Sunday

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 08:15:09 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers will start Sunday, Aug. 9, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) was knocked around in relief Monday but has a decent matchup. He's worth SP2 consideration on FantasyScore.

Astros | Mike Fiers used in relief

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 21:02:28 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers was used in relief Monday, Aug. 3, against the Texas Rangers after SP Lance McCullers bombed out. Fiers will obviously not make his scheduled start Tuesday, Aug. 4. The team will recall SP Dan Straily to start the game.

Fantasy Tip: Fiers ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is a decent FantasyScore option for his K/9 (strikeouts to nine innings) ratio, but he was needed in relief so he likely won't work again until the weekend.

Astros | Mike Fiers could pitch in relief

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 17:27:54 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers could serve as a starting pitcher or as a reliever for his new team.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, Fiers ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) would lose practically all of his fantasy value if he pitches out of Houston's bullpen. This could be a fluid situation, though, because the Astros could also look to limit the innings of Lance McCullers and Vincent Velasquez down the stretch.

Brewers | Milwaukee deals Carlos Gomez, Mike Fiers

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:56:11 -0700

The Milwaukee Brewers dealt OF Carlos Gomez and SP Mike Fiers to the Houston Astros Thursday, July 30, and received prospects OF Brett Phillips, P Josh Hader, OF Domingo Santana and P Adrian Houser.

Fantasy Tip: Khris Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should start every day in the outfield, and he'll be worth grabbing in deeper mixed leagues, and he can be used against right-handed pitching on FantasyScore. Wily Peralta ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) will move into Fiers' rotation spot, he allowed just two earned runs over six innings in his return from the disabled list, and he can be used depending on his matchup.
