Diamondbacks | Addison Reed traded

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:42:31 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks traded RP Addison Reed to the New York Mets on Sunday, Aug. 30, in exchange for RPs Matt D. Koch and Miller Diaz.

Fantasy Tip: Reed was a closer at one point in Arizona but he will not close here unless Jeurys Familia and Tyler Clippard are injured. Even then it might not happen, so don't put Reed in your fantasy lineup.

Mets | Addison Reed acquired

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 13:56:03 -0700

The New York Mets acquired RP Addison Reed from the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, Aug. 30, in exchange for RPs Miller Diaz and Matt D. Koch.

Fantasy Tip: Ordinarily relievers would not get any mention here unless they closed, but Reed was a former closer in Arizona at one point. He will not close here, much like RP Tyler Clippard, as RP Jeurys Familia has this role locked down.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed could be traded

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 19:01:13 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks have received interest from other teams in RP Addison Reed.

Fantasy Tip: Reed was sent to Class AAA Reno several weeks ago after posting a career-high 5.92 ERA and losing the closer's job. A change of scenery could be just what he needs to turn things around and based on his performance this season, it might not take much to acquire him.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed sent down

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 13:06:42 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed was optioned to Class AAA Reno Monday, June 22, and the team reinstated RP Enrique Burgos (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Reed was sporting a career-high 5.92 ERA after being demoted from the closer's role in favor of Brad Ziegler. Burgos had a 4.61 ERA in 13 outings for the D-backs this year before being injured. He'll likely settle into some kind of setup role for Ziegler with David Hernandez. Burgos only deserves to be owned in the deepest of NL-only leagues if you're looking to handcuff Ziegler in case he hits a rough patch.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed to see save chances?

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 11:37:51 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed has settled down since being demoted from the closer's role in mid-May, and he could start to see occasional save chances alongside RP Brad Ziegler, ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin speculates.

Fantasy Tip: You should speculate on Reed, too, if someone dumped him in your league and you're in need of saves. Ziegler has done a respectable job in the ninth but doesn't have the typical dominant stuff that a closer possesses. Handcuffing the two is the ideal situation to be in.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed nearing closer gig

Sat, 30 May 2015 13:40:20 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed is moving closer to supplanting RP Brad Ziegler in the closer role. Manager Chip Hale said he would be looking closely at the matchups.

Fantasy Tip: Reed is still a volatile closing option, but he'll need to be owned universally where saves are a factor.

Diamondbacks | Brad Ziegler the main closer for now

Wed, 20 May 2015 10:41:40 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler is the team's main ninth-inning option with RP Addison Reed demoted from the closer's role, even though RP Enrique Burgos picked up the save Monday, May 18, according to manager Chip Hale. "I would say the number one guy right now for us to close a game is (Brad) Ziegler," Hale said. Ziegler has 33 career saves, while Burgos' first came Monday. However, Hale also made it sound as though Ziegler won't exclusively be pitching in the ninth. "In the long run, is Addison going to be our closer? Hopefully. Is Burgos going to be the closer? He has an opportunity to be with his stuff, but the experience is not there yet," Hale said.

Fantasy Tip: This situation is obviously fluid. If you're searching for saves, Ziegler should be your first choice, but Burgos deserves to be owned in NL-only and deep mixed leagues, at least. Purging Reed from your roster in shallow mixed leagues right now wouldn't be crazy. Know that the back end of Arizona's bullpen could be disappointing to count on for fantasy owners, though.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed out as closer for now

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:24:46 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed likely will be used earlier in games while he works through some mechanical changes, according to manager Chip Hale. Hale said he believes Reed can regain the closer job when he starts pitching well again.

Fantasy Tip: Brad Ziegler appears to be the most likely candidate to receive some save opportunities, but Hale indicated Ziegler could be used before the ninth inning still. Owners looking for saves should consider adding Ziegler as a short-term option. Randall Delgado and Enrique Burgos could also be options for the closer job.

Diamondbacks | Arizona not making closer switch just yet

Thu, 14 May 2015 10:54:58 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed allowed a game-winning grand slam to the Washington Nationals Wednesday, May 13, but manager Chip Hale was non-committal and didn't suggest that a change to the team's closer's role was coming. "Let's give it a day or so," Hale said when asked if there is consideration for taking Reed out of the ninth inning. "Every time somebody doesn't perform, they are either going to be taken out of the rotation or they are going to get sent down? You know what I mean? Come on, man. It's a 162-game season." Reed is only 2-for-4 in save chances this year, and he has allowed runs in four of his last six outings, allowing eight runs in seven innings. His ERA has ballooned to 7.20 after giving up four runs Wednesday, and his WHIP stands at 1.90. RP Brad Ziegler has 33 career saves and was 13-for-15 in save chances at the All-Star break in 2013. Ziegler has a 1.26 ERA this year and has allowed just one run in 15 setup outings. RP Enrique Burgos throws in the high-90s and could have the stuff to be a closer.

Fantasy Tip: Because of Reed's track record as a closer in previous seasons, he's earned a little more leash. The fact that Arizona doesn't have any slam-dunk relief options to replace him also has played into it. If you own Reed, though, you have to be very worried. Benching him for now is the best course of action. If you're speculating for saves or want to handcuff Reed, Ziegler should be your first target, closely followed by Randall Delgado. Avoiding this situation in the desert entirely may be the best play, though.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed working on delivery

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 08:23:50 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed (shoulder) is working on adjusting his delivery in order to cut down on how far he throws across his body. Reed believes the adjustment will help his command and take pressure of his shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Reed likely will open the season as the closer but could be on a short leash if he struggles early. Reed could be an option in later rounds of fantasy draft since he does bring the possibility of saves.
