Braves | Jonny Gomes starting in LF

Tue, 26 May 2015 17:22:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes will start in left field and bat fifth in the order Tuesday, May 26, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Todd Cunningham is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is riding a four-game hit streak in which he has gone 5-for-14. Gomes hasn't driven in any runs, but he has scored three times in that span. FantasyScore owners can consider Gomes for GPP use.

Braves | Jonny Gomes in lineup Monday

Mon, 25 May 2015 13:49:10 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is in the starting lineup Monday, May 25, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Todd Cunningham is on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) looks like he is spelling Cunningham for a regular night off. Gomes has a .300 average in the last week, so he may be a decent low-cost option for your daily lineup.

Braves | Todd Cunningham not in lineup Thursday

Thu, 21 May 2015 12:33:02 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Todd Cunningham is out of the starting lineup Thursday, May 21, against the Milwaukee Brewers. OF Jonny Gomes is in left field and hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: This is a normal day off for Cunningham ($1,700, 3.4% of cap). Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) carries little fantasy value so look elsewhere for outfield help.

Braves | Todd Cunningham off to fast start

Sat, 16 May 2015 17:57:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Todd Cunningham went 3-for-4 with one run scored in a 5-3 win over the Miami Marlins Saturday, May 16, and he is 6-for-8 with three runs scored and an RBI in his first two starts of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham has made the most of his playing time, but he is considered more of a defensive specialist than an offensive threat. He isn't expected to be more than a platoon player at this point.

Braves | Kelly Johnson headed to DL

Thu, 14 May 2015 05:57:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Kelly Johnson (oblique) is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique. OF Todd Cunningham will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was having a .273-3-9 May and had been hitting cleanup. A.J. Pierzynski ($4,300, 8.6% of your cap) figures to hit there when he's in the lineup. Cunningham will likely platoon with Jonny Gomes in left field, but neither are favorable options on FantasyScore.

Braves | Eric Young off to good start

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 16:44:41 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. has gone 0-for-3 with three walks, a hit by pitch and two stolen bases in two spring training games. Young is expected to compete with OFs Todd Cunningham and Eury Perez for the starting center field job while Melvin Upton Jr. (foot) is out of the lineup. Young has not played much in center field but believes he can become a quality center fielder with hard work during the spring.

Fantasy Tip: Young probably has an edge over the other candidates because of his major league experience. Young could be a later-round option in drafts if he wins the job because of his stolen base potential.

Braves | Melvin Upton has sesamoiditis

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 13:48:17 -0800

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves OF Melvin Upton Jr.'s (foot) MRI exam Friday, Feb. 27, revealed sesamoiditis, or inflammation in the bone behind the ball of the left foot. He'll be in a short-leg cast for two weeks and a walking boot for roughly four to six weeks. Upton will miss most of spring training and is expected to start baseball activities in early April. OFs Todd Cunningham, Eury Perez and Zoilo Almonte are the likely candidates to fill in in center field with Upton out.

Fantasy Tip: Although Upton's batting average tanked the last two years, he was still a sleeper candidate at the end of mixed drafts for his stolen base abilities. That won't be the case now, as he could miss the first month of the season. Don't forget about Eric Young Jr. figuring into the outfield mix, at least as a platoon candidate. He or Almonte will likely be your best fantasy bets in Upton's absence, but their main value will come in NL-only leagues.

The Atlanta Braves have activated 2B Dan Uggla (eyes) from the 15-day disabled list. The team also optioned OF Todd Cunningham to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Fantasy Tip: Uggla should be put back in the fantasy starting lineups because he should be playing nearly every day.

Braves | Dan Uggla likely returning

Wed, 28 Aug 2013 05:35:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Dan Uggla (eyes) is likely to return from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 28. He went 2-for-4 with a home run at Triple-A Gwinnett Tuesday, Aug. 27. OF Todd Cunningham is likely to be sent down.

Fantasy Tip: His .186 average has been brutal, but the power production is there, and he has taken 62 walks. Activate him in most leagues unless you have other viable options.

Braves | Brandon Beachy to DL

Fri, 23 Aug 2013 13:31:41 -0700

The Atlanta Braves placed SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation Friday, Aug. 23, and recalled OF Todd Cunningham from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Beachy apparently had a setback in his return from Tommy John surgery, and he'll visit with Dr. James Andrews Monday. His season could very well be over, depending on what they find. Paul Maholm will slide into the rotation spot that Beachy leaves behind.
