Sun, 24 Apr 2016 22:55:54 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts went 2-for-7 with a run scored and a stolen base Sunday, April 24, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Betts has managed at least two hits in four of his past five games, pushing his average from .220 to .299 just since April 19, and he has scored 10 runs over the five-game span. He has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues while running hot, and he is a great mid-tier DFS value.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts taps plate thrice

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base Wednesday, April 20, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Betts posted his first extra-base hit in seven games dating back to April 12. He has been scuffling at the plate with a .230 average, and he is only worth using in AL-only fantasy leagues until he starts to produce a few more lines like this on a regular basis.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts hits second homer

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 16:10:59 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts delivered his second home run of the season Monday, April 11, opposite the Baltimore Orioles. He finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: This was a nice performance from Betts, who was hitting below the Mendoza Line coming in. Regardless, the 23-year-old is way too talented to not produce, and hopefully this ends up being the game that gets him going. He'll be fine.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts yet to discuss extension

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 01:05:07 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts has yet to discuss a long-term contract extension with the team, but he is fine with no movement on a new deal.

Fantasy Tip: Betts will make $566,000, and that may be a bargain. He could explode on the stat charts this season. He ranks as a decent sleeper for that reason, but don't go overboard. He's best drafted late in the AL and midway through mixed leagues.

Red Sox | Boston outfield set

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 14:04:58 -0800

Boston Red Sox OFs Mookie Betts, Rusney Castillo and Jackie Bradley Jr. are set to be the starting outfielders in 2016, with Bradley in center field, Castillo in left and Betts in right. OF Chris Young is expected to start against left-handed pitchers and mix in regularly against righties.

Fantasy Tip: After the breakout year that Betts had in 2015, he's unlikely to make it past the second round of fantasy drafts. Young is expected to platoon with Bradley the most, so those two are more of targets in deep mixed leagues. Castillo is the wild card. He has plenty of talent but only had five homers in 80 games last year. A cheap investment there could yield plenty of value.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts out vs. Baltimore

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 12:41:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. OF Brock Holt is starting in right field and is hitting leadoff against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) lost significant playing time when Dustin Pedroia came off the DL, but he can still be useful in daily games when he's in the lineup, and especially if he's atop the order like tonight. Both of his two home runs this year came against right-handers, and Wright shouldn't instill fear in fantasy gamers. Holt is a worthwhile sleeper pick.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts not playing vs. Tribe

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:06:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is starting in center field and is batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) finally started to turn it on the plate recently, and now he'll be in a platoon of sorts in right field with Rusney Castillo. Temper your expectations for his output tonight against Kluber, who has been lights out of late.

Red Sox | Right field platoon ahead for Boston

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 13:16:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox OFs Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo will rotate in and out of the lineup as the starting right fielder with OFs Hanley Ramirez and Mookie Betts starting the majority of time in left and center field, respectively, according to interim manager Torey Lovullo.

Fantasy Tip: The timeshare is working under the assumption all four outfielders remain healthy, which has rarely been the case this season. Obviously, Bradley ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) and Castillo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) are the losers with a timeshare, but all four outfielders hold seasonal value in the majority of leagues. Monitor the situation for who to play at FantasyScore.
