Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts will temporarily be moved to second base, and his first game there could come Friday, Sept. 12, according to manager John Farrell. 2B Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is out for the season, and 3B Brock Holt (head) has not played since Sept. 5 due to concussion-like symptoms. OF Rusney Castillo could be added to the roster next week. Betts would play second base "fairly regularly." He hasn't played second base since he was with Class AAA July 28. Farrell said the team still sees Betts as an outfielder in the long term, however. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. will share duties in center field.

The Boston Red Sox have recalled OF Mookie Betts from Triple-A Pawtucket. The team also optioned OF Jackie Bradley Jr. to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Fantasy Tip: Betts could receive some playing time since the team's outfield situation is unsettled at the moment because of injuries. Betts could be an option for owners in deeper mixed leagues that are looking to add some steals.

Boston Red Sox 3B Kelly Johnson (groin) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, Aug. 7. In a corresponding move, OF Mookie Betts was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson is likely to split time at third base with Will Middlebrooks. Both are only deep mixed league and AL-only options, unless one of them gains a definitive edge in playing time. Continue to hold Betts in deep keeper/dynasty formats, especially if you're playing for next season.

The Boston Red Sox placed OF Allen Craig (foot) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Fantasy Tip: Craig's 2014 season isn't going the way he or his fantasy owners had hopes; he's hitting just .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. Many were hoping that a change of scenery would spark him to finish the season strong, but this is just another setback. Hang onto him in deep mixed leagues, but in shallow mixed formats, you can probably let him go. Mookie Betts and Daniel Nava will benefit from Craig's absence with more playing time.

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts' stay on the major league roster is expected to be short-lived.
Fantasy Tip: Betts is probably only useful in daily games for the time being, since he might be sent back to the minors soon.

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, and 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) was activated from the disabled list Friday, August 1. Middlebrooks is batting seventh and playing third base. Betts is batting ninth and playing center field.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks has plus-power, but his .197 batting average leaves a lot to be desired. Without guaranteed playing time, he is only viable in AL-only formats and deep mixed leagues. Betts could be worth a flier in deep mixed league and AL-only formats, but keep your expectations in check. He might receive limited at-bats.
