Tampa Bay Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman has been appointed to MLB's new International Talent Committee, which will study issues involving "the development and acquisition" of players and such topics as a worldwide draft and age limits for signing. Friedman is one of two GMs on the committee, along with the New York Mets' Sandy Alderson. The committee is co-chaired by players union head Michael Weiner and MLB executive VP and labor relations chief Rob Manfred.

Tampa Bay Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has formally withdrawn his name from considering for the vacant Houston Astros general manager position Monday, Dec. 5. "Andrew chose not to be a part of the Astros' process," the Rays said in a statement. "It is in no way a reflection on the Houston organization."

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired RP Josh Lueke from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for C John Jaso. The deal also includes cash and a player to be named later for Tampa Bay. "Josh has the stuff to get hitters out in the American League East and began to show that during the second half of last season," Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. "We believe he can be an important part of our success here for many years."

Tampa Bay Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is unlikely to leave the organization to take another job. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are trying hard to lure him to the West coast. Friedman has a strong loyalty to Rays owner Stu Sternberg.
