Rays | Brad Miller not guaranteed everyday SS job

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 14:22:25 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller is not guaranteed the everyday shortstop job, according to sources in the know, as SS Tim Beckham and SS Nick Franklin could be in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever gets the upper hand here won't have a lot of traction on draft boards because the other two could still see a lot of playing time. Miller's downfall is a .756 on base plus slugging mark against righties and a .574 mark against left-handers.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera not expected to return

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 09:04:59 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays impending free-agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not expected to return to the team after Tampa Bay traded for SS Brad Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera managed to hit 15 home runs in 143 games with the Rays, but it's hard to see him finding a job as anything more than a utility middle infielder moving forward. He's strictly an AL-only commodity in 2016.

Mariners | SEA completes six-player deal with TB

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 18:11:29 -0800

The Seattle Mariners have acquired SP Nathan Karns, minor league P C.J. Riefenhauser and minor league OF Boog Powell from the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for 1B Logan Morrison, SS/OF Brad Miller and RP Danny Farquhar.

Fantasy Tip: Karns went 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) in 2015 and will likely crack Seattle's rotation next year even if the team brings back Hisashi Iwakuma, making him a late-round draft option for AL-only and deep mixed leagues. Riefenhauser is a left-handed reliever who went 1-0 with a 5.52 ERA in 17 appearances. Powell hit .295 with a .385 OBP and 18 steals while splitting his time between Class AA Montgomery and Class AAA Durham.

Rays | TB completes six-player deal with SEA

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 17:59:45 -0800

The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired 1B/OF Logan Morrison, SS/OF Brad Miller and RP Danny Farquhar from the Seattle Mariners, in exchange for SP Nathan Karns, minor league P C.J. Riefenhauser and minor league OF Boog Powell.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison appears likely to serve as the Rays' designated hitter in 2016, with James Loney expected to remain the team's regular first baseman. Miller could compete for the starting shortstop position, with Asdrubal Cabrera eligible to become a free agent. Farquhar has closing experience at the major league level but will probably be used in a setup role in 2016. Morrison and Miller could be of interest to owners in AL-only leagues during the middle and later rounds of fantasy drafts next spring.

Mariners | No Brad Miller Tuesday

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 15:07:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. OF James Jones is starting in center field and is hitting eighth against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) shouldn't be considered by FantasyScore gamers tonight. He's batting just .120 (3-for-25) in his short time on the major league roster this year.

Mariners | Brad Miller playing center field

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 11:08:14 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Brad Miller will bat eighth and play center field against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Although Miller ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 6-for-13 with a double, a home run and four RBIs over the past seven days, FantasyScore owners may want to avoid using him against Weaver. He is just 2-for-17 versus the right-hander in his career.

Mariners | Shawn O'Malley starting in center

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 17:32:57 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Shawn O'Malley is batting ninth and starting in center field in place of SS Brad Miller against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Andrew Heaney Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: O'Malley ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting .323 this year, but he has had just 31 at-bats. At best, he is a shot-in-the-dark play at FantasyScore.

Mariners | Brad Miller feeling better

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 15:39:46 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Brad Miller (neck) has been dealing with an ailing neck injury, but he is feeling better and could be available to pinch run during the game Monday, Sept. 14, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has a single home run since the All-Star break over 155 plate appearances, and his playing time has dried up significantly down the stretch. He is nothing more than a low-end option in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. FantasyScore players should only turn Miller's way when he lands in an incredibly favorable matchup.

Mariners | Brad Miller playing center field

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 12:48:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Brad Miller will bat eighth and play center field against Colorado Rockies SP Kyle Kendrick Sunday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 9-for-26 (.346) with a double, a triple and five RBIs at the plate this month, making him worthy of consideration for FantasyScore lineups.

Mariners | Ketel Marte receiving a breather

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 16:56:35 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 11. SS Brad Miller is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: There's not a lot to hang your hat on with Miller ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) at FantasyScore, but he does have all nine of his home runs against right-handers this year. However, hitting near the bottom of the order keeps him as a low-end shortstop option this evening.
