Mariners | Brad Miller relocating on the field?

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 16:23:13 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller took ground balls at second base Thursday, Aug. 7, and he may also take some fly balls in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: With Miller practicing at other positions, Chris Taylor could see an uptick in playing time and fantasy value. Taylor should be on your radar in deep leagues and AL-only formats, if not your roster. Miller is an option in AL-only formats, but this is another indication of how poorly he has hit this season.

Mariners | Chris Taylor probably coming up

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 13:02:36 -0700

The Seattle Mariners are poised to call up SS Chris Taylor from Class AAA Tacoma. He's batting .328 with 5 home runs and 37 RBIs in 75 contests. He may be up with the club as soon as Thursday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor is an immediate add in AL-only games and could enter deep-mixed conversations if he proves himself worthy. Brad Miller has done little to offer resistance to losing his job. Taylor has displayed some power and notable speed at each farm stop.

Mets | Continue to look at trades for SS

Wed, 21 May 2014 10:06:25 -0700

The New York Mets are focused on an in-season trade to acquire a shortstop that the team can control for many seasons, but "there has been nothing lately" between them and the Seattle Mariners, with a focus on SSs Brad Miller or Nick Franklin, according to one source. The Mets are also monitoring Arizona Diamondbacks SS Didi Gregorius. New York, in the meantime, will see if 2B Wilmer Flores can handle the position.

Mariners | Nick Franklin working in OF

Wed, 26 Mar 2014 13:18:39 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Nick Franklin played right field for a few innings Tuesday, March 25, and he said he's been working on the outfield for the last three or four days, doing drills with outfield coach Andy Van Slyke. "This is just me trying to be versatile and I'm trying to play the game," Franklin said. "Some way, some how I want to get on the field, whatever it takes." Franklin knows he's lost the shortstop job to SS Brad Miller at this point, although he hasn't officially been told that.

Fantasy Tip: Franklin's versatility could come in handy for the M's early in the season if Corey Hart (forearm) opens on the DL. However, Franklin is unlikely to spend much time out there, and if he's not playing every day, he's not worth much.

Mariners | SS competition coming down to the wire

Fri, 21 Mar 2014 14:36:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon refuses to make a decision on his starting shortstop between SSs Brad Miller and Nick Franklin. "I can't give you that one. By March 31. It could (go right to the end)," McClendon said.

Fantasy Tip: We fully expect Miller to win the starting gig. He's an acceptable MI option if you decide to wait late in mixed-league drafts. Franklin could become valuable if he's dealt, but that's no sure thing.

Mariners | SS loser likely headed to minors

Fri, 21 Feb 2014 13:00:53 -0800

Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik hinted that the loser in the shortstop competition between SSs Nick Franklin and Brad Miller will likely head to Triple-A Tacoma to start the year. "I just think with young players, it would be unfair not to let them have their at-bats, and to play in the field, every single day to have a chance to get better. We'll let these guys battle at shortstop and see what happens," Zduriencik said.
