Rays | Brad Miller batting second

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:25:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller is hitting second in the lineup Tuesday, April 26, against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez. 1B Logan Morrison, who had hit second, was dropped to sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Whether this is being done to jump-start Miller's bat is a mystery. Miller has a .158 average in the past week and is hitless in three at-bats against Jimenez. Morrison has a .111 mark in the last week but has three hits in as many at-bats against the Orioles pitcher. Right now, neither player carries much fantasy value.

Rays | Three Rays regulars out

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:56:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Brandon Guyer is in center field and hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is starting at first and hitting sixth, and SS Tim Beckham is at the 6 and batting eighth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathis doesn't instill fear in the opposition these days with decreased velocity and dominance. Guyer doesn't have much power but can be a rat on the basepaths as a deep daily sleeper. Pearce is another deep sleeper worth taking a look at, but he had only a .196 average and four home runs against lefties in 2015. Beckham is a desperation gamble.

Rays | Three Rays have day off

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:52:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Brandon Guyer is hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is cleaning up and SS Tim Beckham is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is the only one of the three worth daily consideration. He faces David Price, but he could be worth a low-end start.

Rays | Brad Miller breaks out

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 18:21:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a run scored in a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: He entered the game batting 0.071 with no RBI, so Miller shouldn't be starting outside of AL-only leagues.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:26:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale Friday, April 15. OF Steven Souza moves to designated hitter, OF Brandon Guyer is in right field and hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is at first and hitting cleanup and SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison and Miller are both off to terrible starts, and you should consider benching them until they turn it around in traditional formats. Guyer and Pearce have favorable lineups spots tonight but are tough to rely on in daily formats while facing a tough lefty in Sale. Beckham should be ignored in most fantasy formats.

Rays | Corey Dickerson out of lineup

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 07:29:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson is out of the lineup Wednesday, April 6, against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ. OF Brandon Guyer is hitting second in his place. 1B Steve Pearce is hitting cleanup in place of 1B Logan Morrison, and SS Tim Beckham draws a spot start hitting eighth for SS Brad Miller.

Fantasy Tip: If Beckham's name looks familiar, it's because it was one of the team's top prospects a few years ago that has yet to put it all together. He's a watch list player in AL-only leagues. Pearce is in a spot to perform if his DFS price is right.

Rays | Logan Forsythe could bat leadoff

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 17:23:19 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Logan Forsythe went 3-for-3 out of the leadoff spot against the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, March 10, and the team could use him as a leadoff hitter during the regular season if he shows that he is comfortable in the role. OFs Desmond Jennings, Kevin Kiermaier and Brandon Guyer and SS Brad Miller are other candidates to bat first, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Forsythe has hit leadoff 21 times in his MLB career and Cash said he could wind up with an additional 75 plate appearances if he is moved to the No. 1 spot in the batting order on a full-time basis. The 29-year-old had a career year in 2015, hitting .281 with 17 home runs, 68 RBIs and nine steals in 153 games.

Rays | Brad Miller not guaranteed everyday SS job

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 14:22:25 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller is not guaranteed the everyday shortstop job, according to sources in the know, as SS Tim Beckham and SS Nick Franklin could be in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever gets the upper hand here won't have a lot of traction on draft boards because the other two could still see a lot of playing time. Miller's downfall is a .756 on base plus slugging mark against righties and a .574 mark against left-handers.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera not expected to return

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 09:04:59 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays impending free-agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not expected to return to the team after Tampa Bay traded for SS Brad Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera managed to hit 15 home runs in 143 games with the Rays, but it's hard to see him finding a job as anything more than a utility middle infielder moving forward. He's strictly an AL-only commodity in 2016.

Mariners | SEA completes six-player deal with TB

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 18:11:29 -0800

The Seattle Mariners have acquired SP Nathan Karns, minor league P C.J. Riefenhauser and minor league OF Boog Powell from the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for 1B Logan Morrison, SS/OF Brad Miller and RP Danny Farquhar.

Fantasy Tip: Karns went 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) in 2015 and will likely crack Seattle's rotation next year even if the team brings back Hisashi Iwakuma, making him a late-round draft option for AL-only and deep mixed leagues. Riefenhauser is a left-handed reliever who went 1-0 with a 5.52 ERA in 17 appearances. Powell hit .295 with a .385 OBP and 18 steals while splitting his time between Class AA Montgomery and Class AAA Durham.
