Rays | Three Tampa regulars sitting

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:15:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller and OFs Desmond Jennings and Corey Dickerson are not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is hitting seventh, while OF Brandon Guyer is starting in left field and batting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays lose the DH playing in a National League park this week, so Dickerson could be out again tomorrow. Guyer has taken advantage of his increased opportunities this month and is batting .306 with three home runs and nine RBI. He's a fine value play in daily formats. Motter is a low-end shortstop option.

Rays | Three Rays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Taylor Motter starts at the 6 and is hitting second, OF Brandon Guyer is the designated hitter and is hitting leadoff, while SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Motter hit his first big league homer last night but is a low-end middle infield option in daily setups, even while hitting in the two-hole. Beckham has a similar profile to Motter but is even less attractive at the bottom of the order. Guyer is your value pick of the trio, as he's been seeing starts on a regular basis and is hitting .313 with three home runs and nine RBI this month.

Rays | Brad Miller drives in three

Tue, 17 May 2016 21:15:44 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller went 3-for-5 with three RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has five hits and five RBI in his last four games but is hitting only .219 so far this season. Miller should be used in AL-only leagues but likely does not have much value in most mixed leagues.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:01:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ Monday, May 16. SS Taylor Motter is starting at the 6 and is in the two-hole, while OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. 1B Steve Pearce is at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Happ has pitched excellent this year, so it's a tough draw for the Tampa hitters Monday night. Guyer (.351/.444/.703 this month) and Pearce do have sleeper appeal, though, and both are in great lineups spots to return some value. Motter was hitting only .190 with four home runs and 10 RBI at Class AAA Durham before being called up, so he's a desperation daily play.

Rays | Desmond Jennings in two-hole

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:29:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is being moved up to No. 2 in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill Friday, May 13. SS Brad Miller moves down to sixth with a lefty on the mound.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings is having a putrid season to this point with a .163/.232/.221 slash line and just one home run and two stolen bases. Until he shows more signs of life, avoid him in all fantasy leagues. He's really only an option to hold onto in AL leagues. Miller gives you some nice power and multipositional eligibility in deeper leagues off the waiver wire. He's one to fade against the lefty this evening, though.

Rays | Brad Miller has much-needed big game

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:46:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller went 4-for-5 with a solo home run Friday, May 6, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to push his average back over the Mendoza line.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has three multi-hit games over his past seven appearances, raising his average from .130 to .216 just since April 25. He still cannot be trusted in most fantasy leagues, but he is worth using in deeper AL-only play.

Rays | Three Rays regulars not playing

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:44:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are all out of the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP Alex Wood Wednesday, May 4. OF Brandon Guyer is in two-hole and starting in center field, 1B Steve Pearce is at first base and is hitting cleanup and SS Tim Beckham is at shortstop and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Miller (.176, two home runs) has basically entered a platoon with Beckham at shortstop, which hurts his value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Pearce, Guyer and Beckham are all dice rolls as low-end daily options, although Guyer and Pearce are a bit more attractive based on where they reside in the order tonight.

Rays | Several TB regulars return to lineup

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:24:10 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF/DH Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are back in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman Sunday, May 1. In addition, C Hank Conger is starting behind the plate in place of Curt Casali, batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Miller, Dickerson and Morrison were rested for Saturday's game because the Rays were facing a left-handed pitcher. Although Miller is batting below .200 for the season, he is 6-for-13 with two doubles and a home run over the past week and is worth considering as a value play in daily fantasy games. Dickerson is hitless in his last 12 at-bats and Morrison is batting just .100 through his first 60 at-bats, so both players should be avoided this afternoon.

Rays | TB resting several regulars Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:20:39 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, April 30. 1B/OF Steve Pearce will bat cleanup and play first base, OF Desmond Jennings is batting sixth and playing left field and INF Tim Beckham is playing shortstop and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson, Morrison and Miller are not playing Saturday because the Rays are facing a left-handed pitcher. Pearce is batting .282 with a home run and five RBI in 39 at-bats this season and is worthy of consideration as a value play at first base for daily fantasy lineups but Jennings and Beckham are not recommended options today.

Rays | Brad Miller batting second

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:25:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller is hitting second in the lineup Tuesday, April 26, against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez. 1B Logan Morrison, who had hit second, was dropped to sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Whether this is being done to jump-start Miller's bat is a mystery. Miller has a .158 average in the past week and is hitless in three at-bats against Jimenez. Morrison has a .111 mark in the last week but has three hits in as many at-bats against the Orioles pitcher. Right now, neither player carries much fantasy value.
