Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley has put on noticeable muscle and size this offseason as he prepares to compete with OF Grady Sizemore for the starting center field job this spring. Bradley will be seeking more consistency with the bat in 2014. Sizemore reportedly has flashed some of his old speed during early workouts.

The Boston Red Sox view a healthy OF Grady Sizemore (knee) as competition for OF Jackie Bradley for the starting center fielder job. "This doesn't take Jackie out of the mix at all," manager John Farrell said Wednesday, Jan. 22. "There's questions that we have to answer in spring training with our roster, so the fact of Grady signing and being added to our roster doesn't remove Jackie from our club. I think one of the things that (general manager Ben Cherington) and all of us have set out to do is add to the depth of our team, and Grady certainly does that right now."
Fantasy Tip: Sizemore still has a long way to go to prove his health before becoming a serious threat to Bradley. Right now, Bradley should be considered the replacement for Jacoby Ellsbury in center field, but obviously there is a lot to be determined during the spring.

Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington insists the team isn't down on OF Jackie Bradley after he hit only .189 with a .280 on-base percentage over 37 games in his rookie season. He struck out 31 times in 95 at-bats. Cherington said the team "would feel very good" about Bradley taking over for OF Jacoby Ellsbury in center field next season. However, the Red Sox know Bradley is still young, so they are looking to add a veteran outfielder that could complement him against lefties. "I definitely don't feel like what I showed this year is what I'm capable of," Bradley said. "I showed some glimpses, but I know that wasn't me. You can look at my track record. I've hit at every level. I was able to go through that, take my lumps and bumps, as John Farrell said. I definitely feel like I got better in the bigger picture."

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley isn't in the lineup against a tough lefty Tuesday, Sept. 10, but manager John Farrell said Bradley "is going to be in the mix" to replace OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot) in certain matchups. OF Shane Victorino is starting in center field Tuesday, with OFs Jonny Gomes and Daniel Nava manning the corners.
Fantasy Tip: Bradley may be a candidate in cavernous mixed formats if you're looking for a stolen base boost. However, Bradley is probably best left to AL-only formats since he won't be playing every day.

Updating a previous report, Doctors are trying to determine whether Boston Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot) has a deep bone bruise in his foot or if he has a fracture in his foot.
Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury will miss time because of the injury but it is not known if he will miss the rest of the season. Jackie Bradley has been called up and could see playing time in center field while Ellsbury is out and could be an option in AL-only leagues if available.
