Red Sox | Jackie Bradley Jr. on his way down?

Fri, 22 May 2015 08:19:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. could be demoted soon, in the opinion of The Providence Journal writer Brian MacPherson. MacPherson anticipates Boston will recall OF Rusney Castillo Friday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a fringe daily play and shouldn't be on mixed rosters. AL-only players can cut bait if he is indeed demoted.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley draws start Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:53:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is starting in right field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Wednesday, May 13. OF Shane Victorino is sitting the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is making his second start of the season, and h'es 0-for-5 on the year after being called up over the weekend. Bradley makes for a very weak play against Gray, who has been really tough on lefty hitters in 2015.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino returning to lineup

Mon, 11 May 2015 09:13:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) will come off the disabled list and return to the starting lineup Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, with the Red Sox facing two left-handed pitchers, according to manager John Farrell. "When Vic gets back to us, Vic's going to get left-handed starters, if not more," Farrell said. "But Jackie's arrival here gives us a premium defender, and we certainly like him against a lot of right-handed pitchers. We'll find the right matchups. I'm not going to say it's a strict platoon situation, by any means." Farrell also said he won't move OF Mookie Betts to right field to have OF Jackie Bradley Jr. play center field on days that they are both in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should at least see semi-regular playing time in right field, and he could split time with Bradley or Daniel Nava. Coming off a DL stint and facing Oakland Athletics starter Scott Kazmir Monday isn't a time you should trust Victorino for your FantasyScore lineups.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley Jr. in lineup

Sun, 10 May 2015 07:39:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. will start in right field and bat eighth in the order Sunday, May 10, against the Toronto Blue Jays. OF Allen Craig will come out of the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley Jr. will make his season debut at the major league level. Bradley Jr. was hitting .343 through 107 plate appearances at Class AAA but he hit just .198 in 423 major league plate appearances in 2014. Bradley Jr. should be avoided until he shows some positive results.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo unlikely to make team

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 10:50:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) has been impressive in recent days after recovering from an oblique injury, but it appears unlikely that he'll have a spot on the opening day roster. OF Shane Victorino hasn't done anything to lose the starting right field job this spring. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. has had a good camp, but he's ticketed to start at Triple-A Pawtucket with Castillo.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should eventually figure into Boston's outfield situation in 2015. He possesses heaps of upside at the plate, and Victorino is likely to eventually need some time off. Castillo's fantasy value has faded a bit, but it just means that he could be a huge bargain now in the later rounds of standard drafts.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo out indefinitely

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 15:41:45 -0800

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) will be out indefinitely after an MRI exam showed a strained left oblique, according to manager John Farrell. Farrell said it's too early to tell if Castillo's availability for opening day will be affected. "There's caution to the progression, there's no doubt," Farrell said. "(Pain) tolerance, for one. How aggressive you become to build that back. We just want to be careful of a setback, because everything is rotational in this game." The competition with OF Mookie Betts for the starting center field job will be on hold for now. Castillo doesn't think the injury will affect his ability to be ready for the season. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. will see more playing time in center in camp with Castillo sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries are often tricky, as Farrell alluded to. The BoSox must not rush Castillo, or they might not be able to use him to start the regular season. This bodes well for Mookie Betts' chances of making the opening day roster and for the center field job, for now. Until we know more on Castillo's availability for opening day, you may want to temper your bids on Castillo in the middle rounds of drafts.

Red Sox | CF up for grabs in Boston?

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 10:32:51 -0800

Boston Red Sox OFs Rusney Castillo, Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. could all be competing for center field duties this spring, with OF Hanley Ramirez slated for left and OF Shane Victorino (if healthy) in right field. Castillo could have the inside track on the job based on the $72.5 million deal he signed last year. General manager Ben Cherington doesn't think Castillo needs more seasoning before playing in the big leagues. Betts impressed the team in his rookie season last year, while Bradley struggled offensive but continues to impress with his defense. Manager John Farrell has been impressed with Bradley's compact swing at the plate so far in spring. All three outfielders have minor league options left. The Red Sox could find considerable playing time for one of the center fielders off the bench. However, OFs Allen Craig and Daniel Nava are also competing for playing time.

Fantasy Tip: The most likely scenario is that Castillo starts in center with Betts coming off the bench to replace Ramirez and Victorino where needed. Bradley would then be the odd-man out and start the year in the minors. As a result, Castillo should be taken in the middle rounds of standard drafts for his upside, while Betts remains relevant in mixed leagues for his speed later on.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley might not be dealt

Sun, 22 Feb 2015 19:16:27 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is still held in high regard by the team, and a source said Sunday, Feb. 22, that the Red Sox and Atlanta Braves have not spoken about a deal for Bradley in weeks. The source added that it would seem unlikely talks will intensify again.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley is likely ticketed for Triple-A Pawtucket to start the season rather than languishing on the bench due to a crowded outfield in Beantown. With the team facing roster changes with Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino in the final year of their deals, and Davis Ortiz turning 40 in November, two outfield spots might come open in 2016. Bradley might still have a future in Boston, but his immediate fantasy prospects are bleak.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley must do more to make team

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 11:50:37 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr., who hit just .198 with 152 strikeouts in 479 at-bats last year, will likely have to do more in spring training before he's given another shot. The Red Sox will need to figure out if Bradley is part of their long-term plan soon.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley playing poorly

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 09:03:00 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. went 0-for-4 and left six runners on base Thursday, Sept. 18, and he is just 1-for-27 since being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket Sept. 5. He's hitting .203, which is the lowest ever for a rookie in team history with at least 350 plate appearances, breaking a record that stood since 1907.
