Marlins | Miami interested in Yoenis Cespedes

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 11:02:45 -0800

The Miami Marlins are among the teams discussing free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) on a short-term deal, according to sources. A signing of Cespedes would likely require the Marlins to trade OF Marcell Ozuna.

Fantasy Tip: A move to Miami wouldn't be the most ideal landing spot for Cespedes, but after the damage he did in the second half with the New York Mets last year, any fantasy owner would love to have Cespedes as a high-end second outfielder, regardless of where he's playing.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna won't be dealt for pitcher

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 15:28:09 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna will not be traded for pitching after the club signed SP Wei-Yin Chen.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna disappointed considerably last season, slashing .259/.308/.383 with just 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 123 games. However, he has flashed notable potential before and is a good bounce-back candidate for 2016.

Marlins | Miami interested in Chi Chi Gonzalez

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 17:21:13 -0800

The Miami Marlins recently discussed a potential deal with the Texas Rangers which would have sent OF Marcell Ozuna to Texas, in exchange for SP Chi Chi Gonzalez and another player.

Fantasy Tip: The Fish are looking for a player (or players) who can contribute immediately at the major-league level in all possible trade scenarios involving Ozuna. Gonzalez went 4-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 14 games (10 starts) as a rookie last season, although he struggled with control, walking 32 batters while striking out just 30 over 67 innings. A move to a more pitcher-friendly stadium like Marlins Park should increase the right-hander's fantasy value, especially considering how offensively-challenged many of the clubs in the NL East are. Ozuna should be viewed as a solid OF3 with upside, although his fantasy value should increase slightly if he winds up playing his home games in Texas.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna's market heating up

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 12:09:01 -0800

The trade market for Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna is heating up, and the Marlins have talked with multiple teams about him, including a West Coast club.

Fantasy Tip: The Texas Rangers are the West Coast club that has talked about Ozuna of late. A move to the hitter-friendly environment in Texas would boost Ozuna's fantasy intrigue as a bounce-back player for 2016. He has potential to be a real nice bargain as a third outfielder with upside for more.

Rangers | Marcell Ozuna in Rangers' sights

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 09:48:31 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna interests the Texas Rangers, but the asking price remains high. A deal isn't likely at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna has a lot of potential, and if he can regain good standing with the Fish, he's a solid OF3 with upside.

Marlins | Market for Marcell Ozuna cooling

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 14:27:09 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna is not being involved in trade negotiations as frequently of late because the organization's asking price is too high, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna posted a .269/.317/.455 season with 23 home runs in 2014, but his 2015 campaign included a demotion to the minors. There is talent and sleeper appeal here, and Ozuna checks out as a late-round flier in seasonal leagues this spring. However, his home park and weak supporting cast -- outside of Giancarlo Stanton and Dee Gordon -- is underwhelming.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna won't come cheap

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:09:23 -0800

The Miami Marlins are asking for a lot in return for OF Marcell Ozuna, and they've already asked for Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura, Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker and Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna would likely benefit from a change of scenery after he was demoted to the minors for struggling at the major league level early last season. Remember, he's just a year removed from a .269/.317/.455 season with 23 home runs in 153 games, so there is surely sleeper potential, especially if he lands in a better situation.

Mariners | Seattle pursuing Marcell Ozuna

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 08:54:18 -0800

The Seattle Mariners are pursuing Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna had a rough 2015 season with Miami in which he was demoted to the minors for a time. He has the raw skills to be useful for fantasy owners, mainly for his power, and he'll certainly be a value pick in the later rounds in drafts next spring. It seems inevitable that he'll be dealt this winter.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna not close to being dealt

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 11:04:03 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna has been discussed plenty in trade talks this offseason, but he's not close to being dealt, according to a source. The Seattle Mariners are another team showing interest in him, but it's unclear if Seattle is considered a front-runner. Miami will not accept a "low-ball" offer for Ozuna. The Marlins are in the market for a controllable, high-end starting pitcher. Mariners SP Taijuan Walker would likely be most attractive to the Marlins, but Seattle has said he's not available. The Cleveland Indians also are believed to have interest in Ozuna.

Fantasy Tip: It seems inevitable that Ozuna will be traded this offseason, and a change of scenery could do him wonders after he struggled in 2015 (.259-10-44). He has the raw skills to deliver big numbers, though, after posting 23 bombs and 85 RBI in 2014, and leaving Miami for a more hitter-friendly environment would surely make him an undervalued guy to target in the later rounds in fantasy drafts.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna on the way out?

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 06:50:06 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna could be traded this offseason, in the opinion of one baseball executive. "I'd be surprised if they keep him,'' the executive said of Ozuna. "(Owner Jeffrey) Loria clearly can't stand the guy and everybody knows it."

Fantasy Tip: It's always a tightrope walk when dealing with anonymous sources as it could be a posturing move. Ozuna struggled last season, but he's two years removed from a nice .269-23-85 campaign. He'll be one to consider for one of your latter outfield spots in traditional leagues if he has a full-time spot.
