Pittsburgh Pirates OF Joshua Bell (knee) had surgery Friday, April 27, to repair the meniscus in his left knee. Bell is expected to return to game action before the season is over. He is one of the organization's top hitting prospects.

The Pittsburgh Pirates came to terms with their top two picks, SP Gerrit Cole and OF Joshua Bell, before the deadline Monday, Aug. 15. Cole, the top overall pick, receives an $8 million signing bonus, and he can make more than $9 million in guarantees if he reaches the big leagues by 2013. Bell receives $5 million. Cole's deal is the largest for any Pirates' draft pick in their history.
