Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole (triceps) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 16. 1B Josh Bell was sent down to Class AAA Indianapolis to make room.
Fantasy Tip: Cole should be placed into traditional lineups immediately. However, he's not a strong start against the Washington Nationals in DFS today. Bell should be stashed in NL-only leagues if possible as he should be back in September.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Josh Bell delivered a pinch-hit grand slam home run in the fifth inning Saturday, July 9, against the Chicago Cubs. It was just his second major league career at-bat.
Fantasy Tip: Bell is expected to serve as a bench bat in the Steel City, but if he keeps providing these types of heroics that might change. For now, he remains nothing more than an option in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues and as a salary saver in DFS when he starts.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Josh Bell will serve as a potential pinch hitter over the next three games. He will be optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis before the All-Star break.
Fantasy Tip: Bell has nothing left to prove with Indianapolis given his 13 home runs, 53 RBI and .324/.407/.535 slash line over 83 games this season. However, at this point, his fantasy value remains tied to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues as a stash option. He's a viable own in deep keeper/dynasty formats, too.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow was sent back to Class AAA Indianapolis to make way for the promotion of 1B Josh Bell to the parent club.
Fantasy Tip: Glasnow took the loss and allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings of work Thursday, July 7. He was primarily a fill-in with starters such as Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon out of the rotation, so Glasnow may not get a chance immediately. Still, stash him away in deeper NL and mixed leagues just in case. There's a chance Glasnow could see more action, especially if other injuries occur or the Pirates trade away pitchers like Jon Niese.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Josh Bell was recalled from Class AAA Indianapolis Friday, July 8.
Fantasy Tip: Bell has a .324-13-53 line at Triple-A, and he's a pretty solid prospect. However, there's no clear path to playing time for him with John Jaso at first and David Freese playing well enough to require everyday at-bats between third and first. Jung Ho Kang has an off-the-field situation hovering over him, so the timing of the move is curious. In any event, the switch-hitting Bell could platoon at first with left-handed-hitting Jaso. Bell is worth owning in NL-only formats, but unless something opens up, leave him on the wire in mixed leagues.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Josh Bell is believed to be ready to contribute at first base at the major league level in the near future, according to general manager Neal Huntington. It's one of the reasons the Pirates didn't make a strong run at Korean 1B Byung-Ho Park.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should take note of Bell, who could contribute as early as next season at some point. Put him on your radar in deep mixed leagues and look to stash him this year in dynasty and keeper formats.
