Phillies | Tyler Goeddel spanking the ball

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:07:18 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Tyler Goeddel hit his first home run of the year Wednesday, May 18, and went 3-for-4. He is 10-for-21 (.476) in the last six games, raising his average from .159 to .262.

Fantasy Tip: Goeddel has a wiry frame, so he won't provide much power for owners. His best asset may be his defense, but he can also hit for average if he shortens his swing up. He's been playing regularly in left field for Philly this year, and he can be a successful value pick against certain left-handed pitchers in DFS action. For now, Goeddel is strictly an NL-only commodity.

Phillies | Tyler Goeddel has clutch hit

Sun, 08 May 2016 14:51:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Tyler Goeddel had his first career extra-base hit Sunday, May 8, in a 6-5 win over the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Goeddel entered the game having hit 5-for-37 this season. He platoons in the outfield and plays mostly against left-handed pitchers, and his fantasy value hasn't increased at all. This may be a start, but don't rush out to get Goeddel based on one big hit.

Phillies | Ryan Howard, Carlos Ruiz resting

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:35:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard and C Carlos Ruiz are out of the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino Sunday, May 8. 1B Darin Ruf will bat cleanup and play first base, while C Cameron Rupp starts behind the plate and bats fifth. In addition, OF Tyler Goeddel will play left field and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp, Ruf and Goeddel should all be viewed as desperation sources of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games. Ruf has the most upside because of his career success versus lefties but he is hitting just .157 with three RBI in 57 at-bats this season.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos, Cesar Hernandez sitting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:26:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos and 2B Cesar Hernandez are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. OF Tyler Goeddel is starting in left field and batting eighth, while SS Andres Blanco is at the keystone and is hitting third against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett.

Fantasy Tip: The Phils avoided having to face Jacob deGrom tonight, but Verrett is no slouch after throwing six shutout innings in deGrom's turn last week. Goeddel and Blanco are both desperation daily picks if you're looking to save salary cap space. Blanco is slightly more attractive hitting in the middle of the order.

Phillies | Three regulars out for Phillies

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:14:45 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, C Cameron Rupp and OF Cedric Hunter are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, April 17. 1B Darin Ruf will start at first base and is batting fifth in the lineup. C Carlos Ruiz will start at catcher and is batting sixth, while OF Tyler Goeddel will start in left field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf, Ruiz and Goeddel are all hitting under .200 over the first few weeks of the season and are not strong candidates for fantasy owners.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos, Tyler Goeddel starting

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:57:22 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Peter Bourjos and Tyler Goeddel are playing right field and left field, respectively, against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos and Goeddel are a combined 6-for-43 at the plate this year with one RBI and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Phillies | Tyler Goeddel, Cedric Hunter to platoon

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 17:16:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Tyler Goeddel and Cedric Hunter will platoon in left field, at least for the beginning of the regular season, according to manager Pete Mackanin. The right-handed-hitting Goeddel is likely to see most of his playing time versus southpaws, with the left-handed-hitting Hunter expected to see the bulk of the action against righties.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Wednesday, Hunter and Goeddel had eight combined MLB at-bats. Both players should be avoided outside of NL-only fantasy leagues and don't have enough of a track record to merit using in daily fantasy contests.

Phillies | Philly has several LF options

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 08:55:03 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Cody Asche, Darnell Sweeney, Tyler Goeddel, Cedric Hunter and David Lough are all possibilities to play left field with OF Aaron Altherr (wrist) out four to six months.

Fantasy Tip: Asche has the most experience after hitting 12 home runs in 425 at-bats last year for Philly. His second half shows his power can play, but he won't help much in average and doesn't do anything else particularly well. Keep your expectations tempered as mainly an NL-only weapon.
