Twins | Joe Mauer sitting out

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 08:00:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 1, in favor of 1B Kennys Vargas.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good day for Mauer to sit in the NL park against ace Johnny Cueto. Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) had a .235-2-5 line in June, and his matchup is one to avoid on FantasyScore.

Twins | Kennys Vargas not playing

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 08:47:49 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers Sunday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is not in the lineup because the team is playing in a National League park and there is no designated hitter. Vargas should return to the lineup when the team returns to an American League park.

Twins | Kennys Vargas shines in blowout win

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 22:54:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas posted four hits, including a three-run homer, and four RBIs Monday, June 22, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($2,700; or 5.4% of cap) entered the game with a total of just three hits over his past 25 at-bats (.120), so don't expect this to become the norm. FantasyScore players should avoid him until he hits more consistently.

Twins | Kenny Vargas will not start

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 10:13:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Sunday, June 21. 3B Eduardo Nunez will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth, while SS Eduardo Escobar will start at shortstop and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in five of his last seven games and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore. Escobar ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is batting .265 this month with six RBI and could be a cheaper option for owners.

Twins | Kennys Vargas dropped to 7th

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 16:19:37 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas has been dropped from fifth to seventh in the batting order Tuesday, June 9, against the Kansas City Royals. OF Eddie Rosario will move up to fifth against RHP Chris Young.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting .290, with three doubles and two home runs against righties this season. Rosario is 6-for-16 during a four-game hitting streak, making him worthy of consideration in GPP tournaments on FantasyScore.

Twins | Kennys Vargas at DH Monday

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 14:29:59 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth in the order against Kansas City Royals SP Jason Vargas Monday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: The switch hitter was hitting .248 (26-for-105) with three home runs and 10 RBI before he was sent down. Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) hit .308 with three homers and eight RBI for Class AAA Rochester before coming back up. He could be a nice sleeper pick tonight after having a slash line of .368/.415/.447 with a homer and four RBI against left-handed pitchers earlier this year.

Twins | Danny Santana sent down

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 05:46:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins SS Danny Santana was optioned to Class AAA Rochester Sunday, June 7, and SS Eduardo Escobar will assume the bulk of the shortstop time. 1B Kennys Vargas will come up in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has done little to pull the trigger on FantasyScore with a .230-3-31 line.

Twins | Kennys Vargas recalled

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 15:28:40 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas was recalled from Class AAA Rochester on Sunday, June 7. SS Danny Santana was sent to Class AAA in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: The Twins took a lot of people by surprise a few weeks ago when they optioned Vargas, saying he needed to cut down on his strikeouts. The team sacrificed some power, however, as Vargas was a good source of homers. Eduardo Escobar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will take over for Santana ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), who should be removed from FantasyScore consideration.

Twins | Kennys Vargas sent down

Sun, 17 May 2015 15:33:24 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas was optioned to Class AAA Rochester on Sunday, May 17. OF Eduardo Nunez was recalled in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: On one level this comes as a surprise, considering Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 15-for-41 in May with a .366 average and two home runs. The team wants Vargas to cut down on his strikeouts. Vargas had been DH, so look for manager Paul Molitor to rotate different players in and out. Keep Vargas stashed away on your bench in deeper leagues if you can afford it.

Twins | Kennys Vargas on the bench

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:54:52 -0700

Minnesota Twins DH Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has played in three of the last six games but should return to the lineup soon. Eduardo Escorbar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is in the starting lineup and could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore since he is hitting .348 with month with 11 RBI.
