Twins | Kennys Vargas sent down

Sun, 17 May 2015 15:33:24 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas was optioned to Class AAA Rochester on Sunday, May 17. OF Eduardo Nunez was recalled in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: On one level this comes as a surprise, considering Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 15-for-41 in May with a .366 average and two home runs. The team wants Vargas to cut down on his strikeouts. Vargas had been DH, so look for manager Paul Molitor to rotate different players in and out. Keep Vargas stashed away on your bench in deeper leagues if you can afford it.

Twins | Kennys Vargas on the bench

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:54:52 -0700

Minnesota Twins DH Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has played in three of the last six games but should return to the lineup soon. Eduardo Escorbar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is in the starting lineup and could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore since he is hitting .348 with month with 11 RBI.

Twins | Kennys Vargas not in the lineup

Sat, 16 May 2015 09:00:54 -0700

Minnesota Twins DH Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 16. SS Danny Santana will serve as the designated hitter for the Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Santana ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has posted decent numbers at the plate this season, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use.

Twins | Kennys Vargas out of the lineup

Wed, 13 May 2015 14:39:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins DH Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: While you'll want to avoid Vargas ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) in all formats Wednesday, it is worth noting his recent surge at the plate. He is 16-for-41 with nine runs, two home runs, six RBI and a .980 OPS over his last 11 games. The Twins offense is starting to score in bunches, and Vargas hit nine home runs in just 218 at-bats to finish the 2014 season. He should be owned in all deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Plus, at his reasonable salary, FantasyScore players could have a nice value when he faces a favorable opposing pitcher.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe back in lineup

Sun, 10 May 2015 07:50:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe is back in the starting lineup Sunday, May 10, against the Cleveland Indians. 1B Kennys Vargas comes out of the lineup after serving as the designated hitter Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting .269 to open the season and already has five home runs. With an on-base percentage of .358, Plouffe has the potential for a high runs scored total in a hot Twins lineup.

Twins | Kennys Vargas hitting cleanup

Thu, 07 May 2015 09:09:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is hitting cleanup against Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz Thursday, May 7, with 1B Joe Mauer out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) homered last night and drove in three runs, and he's heating up in May, with seven hits in 17 at-bats, including two home runs. Vargas is also batting .313 (10-for-32) with a .759 OPS this year against left-handers, making him a potential excellent value play against Pomeranz this afternoon.

Twins | Kennys Vargas sitting again

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:40:24 -0700

Minnesota Twins DH Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. SS Eduardo Nunez is serving as the designated hitter and hitting fifth in the batting order against Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has eight hits in his first 19 at-bats (.421) to start 2015, but he's not as good of a hitter as that small sample size may suggest. Hitting in the middle of the lineup is attractive, but he remains a low-end shortstop option for FantasyScore gamers.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) doesn't come recommended tonight while facing Price.

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Monday, April 20. SS Eduardo Escobar is serving as the designated hitter and hitting sixth in the batting order against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be avoided at FantasyScore this evening. Volquez is off to a fine start with his new club, going 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.

Twins | Kennys Vargas sitting Sunday

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 08:22:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas will sit out Sunday, April 12, against the Chicago White Sox and SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has one double and just three hits in 19 plate appearances to start the season. Vargas gets the day of rest against one of the league's top left-handers, while Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe will move across the diamond and play first base.
