Astros | Jason Castro not in the lineup

Sun, 29 May 2016 10:44:15 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano Sunday, May 29. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher, while OF George Springer will serve as the designated hitter. OF Colby Rasmus will start in right field, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has been posting solid numbers in recent games and should be an option at catcher for fantasy owners. Marisnick is still hitting only .145 so far this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Astros | Colby Rasmus out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 16:36:04 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus is out of the starting lineup Saturday, May 28, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. OF Jake Marisnick is in for Ausmus and will hit eighth against Angels SP Jered Weaver.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a normal off night for Rasmus, who is hitting .190 in the past week and slumping badly at the plate. Marisnick has been decent in the field for Houston but bad at the plate, and his fantasy value is minimal as a result.

Astros | Three regulars out for Houston

Sun, 22 May 2016 10:37:11 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Colin Moran, 3B Luis Valbuena and OF Tony Kemp are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Sunday, May 22. 1B Tyler White will start at first base and is batting sixth. SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at third base and is batting seventh, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick and Gonzalez are hitting under .100 over the past seven days and should be avoided in most leagues. White is hitting .267 with two home runs and three RBI during that span and is a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Astros | Jake Marisnick riding pine

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:32:08 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. OF Tony Kemp is starting in left field and batting ninth against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: With Carlos Gomez (rib cage) on the DL, Kemp and Marisnick figure to split time in the outfield. Marisnick is hitting a measley .105 with one RBI and one steal. He's only useful for his speed in AL-only leagues, really. Kemp has more upside in the short term offensively due to his contact-oriented approach and ability to hit for average. He's daily upside is limited hitting down in the order, however.

Astros | No Jake Marisnick Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:30:48 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. OF Tony Kemp draws the start in left field and is hitting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos. OF Colby Rasmus shifts to center field.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp is the second Astros player making his first big league start tonight (Colin Moran the other). Kemp has a small frame and not much power, but the outfielder makes up for it with plenty of speed (35 steals last year). He also makes above-average contact with a line-drive stroke that gave him a .298 average at Class AAA Fresno before being called up. He's AL-only material for depth, but he may not stick around once Carlos Gomez comes off the DL.

Astros | Jake Marisnick to play center

Tue, 17 May 2016 11:08:48 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is likely to see most of the starts in center field with OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) on the disabled list. However, Gomez isn't expected to be out for longer than 15 games.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick's one skill that'll appeal to fantasy owners is his speed. He had 24 swipes but was caught nine times in 2015. In the short term, he can be useful in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues if you're in need in the steals category. Gomez is a drop candidate in shallow leagues if you don't have the room.

Astros | Carlos Gomez not in the lineup

Sat, 14 May 2016 08:36:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Saturday, May 14. OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick has only one hit in his last 13 at-bats and is hitting .080 this season, so owners should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Astros | No Tyler White vs. Boston

Fri, 13 May 2016 13:41:41 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 13. OF Jake Marisnick is drawing into the lineup and is playing center field and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Friday.

Fantasy Tip: White is mired in a 10-for-75 slump with a .267 slash line, and his fantasy value is plummeting after a strong spring and three home runs through his first five games. If you don't have the luxury to stash him in a bench slot, it isn't out of the question to move on from White. Marisnick hasn't shown anything this season to warrant a starting endorsement Friday.

Astros | Colby Rasmus sitting vs. Red Sox

Thu, 12 May 2016 13:08:35 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 12. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in left field and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus is off to a solid start with seven home runs, 28 RBI and a .340 on-base percentage. His .224 batting average isn't stellar, but he is also a .244 career hitter, so some positive regression is likely ahead. Plus, you drafted Rasmus for his power. Marisnick has a career .223/.266/.371 slash line against southpaws and should be viewed as a desperation start in all fantasy formats facing off against Price Thursday.

Astros | Two Astros sitting

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:29:00 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker and 1B Tyler White are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11. 1B Marwin Gonzalez hits fifth, and OF Jake Marisnick is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is hitting .348 the last seven days, but he has a tough matchup against Danny Salazar. He's an iffy low-end grab today. Marisnick has one hit in 16 at-bats (.063) this year and shouldn't be considered.
