Astros | Jake Marisnick sent down

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 23:12:10 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick was optioned to Class AAA Fresno Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: He's worth holding onto in AL-only leagues, but he has no mixed league appeal with the crowded outfield.

Astros | Luis Valbuena, Colby Rasmus out

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 14:31:33 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and OF Colby Rasmus are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Derek Holland Tuesday, April 19. 3B Marwin Gonzalez is starting at third base and hitting seventh, while OF Jake Marisnick sees the start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez had a nice spring but has only four hits in 19 at-bats to start the season. Still, he could be a successful sleeper option against a southpaw tonight. Marisnick's biggest asset is his speed, but he's unlikely to be able to use it much hitting ninth in the order.

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick has gone hitless in his five at-bats this month and should be avoided in all leagues.

Astros | Colby Rasmus, Preston Tucker sitting

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 13:41:15 -0700

Houston Astros OFs Colby Rasmus and Preston Tucker are out of the lineup Friday, April 8. The Astros lose the designated hitter in a National League park, and OF Jake Marisnick is starting in left field and hitting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Speed is Marisnick's biggest asset, and his power is intriguing, too. However, his plate skills must improve in order for him to find more consistent playing time. Until then, he's strictly an AL-only depth option.

Astros | Jake Marisnick ready for game action

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 13:40:16 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick (ankle) is "fine" after a full workout Wednesday, March 30, A.J. Hinch said. Marisnick is expected to play a couple innings during a spring training game Thursday, March 31, and start Friday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick is the fourth outfielder for Houston, and his fantasy value is tied to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. He does have a nice power-speed combo and is just an injury away from a full-time role, too, so he is a worthy depth option in those deeper leagues.

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick (ankle) left the Grapefruit League spring game Monday, March 28, against the Atlanta Braves due to a mild sprain of his right ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick doesn't sound like he is in too bad of shape. However, he is only worth using in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues when healthy.

Astros | Jake Marisnick being shopped

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:30:33 -0800

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is available for trade in the right deal, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick has flashed the power-speed combo coveted in the fake game, and entering his age-25 season, there is still room for growth. Although, unless he is guaranteed full-time at-bats, he is an afterthought in the majority of seasonal leagues. Stay tuned for updates.

Astros | Carlos Gomez remains out

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 09:11:59 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (intercostal) is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the division series against the Kansas City Royals Friday, Oct. 9. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in center field again and batting ninth against Royals SP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a fine young talent but is more useful for his defense in center field. Plus, his daily upside is limited hitting in the nine-hole against a strikeout artist in Cueto. Marisnick is a low-end outfield pick Friday on FantasyScore.

Astros | Carlos Gomez sitting out Game 1

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 14:21:59 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (intercostal) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals Thursday, Oct. 8. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in center field and batting ninth against Royals SP Yordano Ventura Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: It is expected Gomez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) aggravated his intercostal injury during the wild-card game Tuesday, Oct. 6. He was only able to start two games after suffering the injury Friday, Sept. 12. Stay tuned for updates. Marisnick ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a strong finish to the season with a .876 OPS, 11 runs, three home runs and 11 RBI over his final 62 plate appearances of the season. He checks out as a FantasyScore flier Thursday.

Astros | Carlos Gomez remains sidelined

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:00:33 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (intercostal) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in center field and is batting ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) just doesn't move the needle enough when hitting at the bottom of the order for daily gamers. On top of it, he's hitting only .207 (29-for-140) against left-handers in 2015. He's a low-end outfield option.
