Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia in vs. White Sox

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:36:47 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Chicago White Sox SP Jacob Turner Friday, July 22. C James McCann is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia is 10-for-50 through his past 20 games with nine runs, two home runs and seven RBI. He's a potential flier in daily contests, but like McCann, neither are anything more than low-end options in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Tigers | James McCann resting Thursday

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 11:53:21 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 21. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is behind the plate and is batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP James Shields.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Shields evening out of late, he's prone to allowing the long ball, which makes Salty a consideration as a deep sleeper at catcher tonight in DFS games. Saltalamacchia is hitting just .201 on the season but does have nine home runs in 144 at-bats.

Tigers | James McCann, Tyler Collins sitting

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 12:47:51 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and OF Tyler Collins are not in the starting lineup Monday, July 18. INF/OF Mike Aviles is starting in right field and batting seventh, and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Monday.

Fantasy Tip: McCann is just 7-for-37 in July and should be viewed as a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues. Saltalamacchia is a potential flier in daily contests Monday, but he's got very little seasonal value. Aviles remains a viable depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, while Collins also has fleeting value in those deep settings.

Tigers | James McCann resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 08:28:15 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann is out of the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, July 17. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will bat eighth and start behind the plate. In addition, OF Justin Upton is batting sixth and playing left field, with OF Tyler Collins hitting seventh and starting in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia and Upton haven't been hitting enough recently to warrant starting in DFS. Collins is 3-for-8 in his career against Ventura but is only batting .148 through 27 at-bats in 2016, making him nothing more than an inexpensive flier option.

Tigers | James McCann, Jose Iglesias starting

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:46:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and SS Jose Iglesias are back in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Sunday, July 10. In addition, INF/OF Mike Aviles is batting seventh and playing right field, with OF Steven Moya receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: After a disastrous beginning to 2016, McCann is batting .267 in 90 at-bats since June 1, with four homers and 13 RBI, making him a viable catching option in all fantasy formats. Aviles is just 3-for-18 at the plate this month and is not a great option anywhere.

Tigers | James McCann, Jose Iglesias out

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 08:09:00 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and SS Jose Iglesias are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Saturday, July 9. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup. SS Andrew Romine will start at shortstop and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia has gone hitless in his six at-bats this month and is hitting only .200 this season. Owners should be able to find other players to use in their lineups. Romine is also hitting .200 so far this season and can also be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Tigers | James McCann sitting out Wednesday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 09:10:16 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 6. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is behind the dish and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Salty has occasional pop with eight home runs in 131 at-bats, but he's hitting just .206 on the season. He's a sleeper catcher in DFS, but Tomlin has been very good this year. Look to fade Saltalamacchia.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia in again

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 12:13:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Thursday, June 30. C James McCann will start on the bench again.

Fantasy Tip: Salty went 3-for-3 with a home run and double Wednesday afternoon, and he could see more starts moving forward if he stays hot. However, he's barely hitting .206 on the year despite notable pop occasionally. He's more of a low-end daily pick and appeals only to owners desperate for a catcher in two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Tigers | James McCann resting against Fish

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:13:47 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia receives the start and is batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: Salty does have seven home runs and 20 RBI on the year in limited time behind the plate, but he's batting a putrid .187 on the season. He has pop but is a lottery ticket in DFS action as a deep sleeper pick to save salary cap space.

Tigers | James McCann, Steven Moya sitting

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:30:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and OF Steven Moya (knee) are not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 26. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting seventh, and INF/0F Mike Aviles is starting in right field and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: McCann has been hot in June with a .283/.313/.550 slash line and is a viable starting option in the majority of seasonal leagues. Saltalamacchia, meanwhile, is mired in an active 13-for-88 runs at the plate with a .529 OPS and is a desperation own and start at this point. Aviles and Moya have been splitting time of late in right field with Moya nursing a knee injury. Neither are anything more than low-end starters in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups, but when healthy, Moya has the potential to enter the mixed league conversation.
