Brewers | Rymer Liriano set for surgery

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 10:36:43 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) will undergo surgery for broken bones around his eye Tuesday, March 29, but everything so far has been "as positive as possible," according to manager Craig Counsell.

Fantasy Tip: He was able to visit his teammates in the clubhouse prior to a recent spring training game, so by all accounts, it's possible Liriano may get back sooner than anticipated. At the same time, he's still facing an extended absence either way. With Ryan Braun (back) also dealing with his own ailment, the Brewers outfield situation looks a little messy going into opening day. Domingo Santana and Keon Broxton potentially could stand out as a result.

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 10:21:42 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) will visit with a plastic surgeon Thursday, March 24, to discuss solutions to his multiple facial fractures.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano is expected to be out an extended period, and he's not much of an option in fantasy right now.

Brewers | Rymer Liriano discharged

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 17:21:49 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) was discharged from the hospital Monday, March 21, and visited the team before their spring training game.

Fantasy Tip: This is all certainly tremendous news, especially since he left the hospital earlier than anticipated, but unfortunately, it doesn't mean Liriano is any closer to getting back to action. He's looking at a pretty long absence, which is unfortunate, as he was in a position to be a contributor right out of the gate with his new team. With the former Padre sidelined, that will benefit Domingo Santana, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Keon Broxton. Santana easily has the highest ceiling of the three.

Brewers | No return timetable for Rymer Liriano

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 12:18:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) is doing well and is more comfortable Monday, March 21, according to manager Craig Counsell. Liriano will start the season on the disabled list, and there is currently no timeline for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano is a stash candidate in NL-only formats worth grabbing with a late-round pick. Look for Keon Broxton to win the center field job, as he has six stolen bases and a .348 batting average this spring. However, you'll want to keep your expectations in check with Broxton. He only has 369 plate appearances above Class AA, but his speed is intriguing for cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is also in the mix, but he has proven to be a low-end outfield option in all fantasy formats.

Brewers | Rymer Liriano has facial fractures

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 06:17:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) suffered multiple facial fractures Sunday, March 20, and will remain in the hospital for observation.

Fantasy Tip: He'll likely begin the season on the DL, which trumps his NL-only value. Keon Broxton is a name to watch the final two weeks in center. His 2015 in Class AAA wasn't anything special with a .256-7-42 line, but he stole 28 bags. He's hitting .348 with six steals this spring. Steals are really hard to find without paying inflated prices, and he could be a late sleeper. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is in the mix, but we know what he is at this point. He's an NL-only depth option if he wins a large share.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Rymer Liriano (face) exited a spring training game on a stretcher after being hit in the face by a pitch Sunday, March 20.

Brewers | Several CF options in Milwaukee

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 21:15:33 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers OFs Keon Broxton, Rymer Liriano, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Eric Young Jr. are each options for the starting center field job heading into spring training.

Fantasy Tip: It's a big race to watch, and it could end up a platoon situation, too. Nieuwenhuis and Young have the most starting experience, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have a leg up at this juncture.
