Pirates | Tyler Glasnow left with shoulder issue

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 15:49:43 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) left the game Saturday, July 23, with right shoulder discomfort.

Fantasy Tip: There's no word on the severity, but he's their top pitching prospect. There's no need to push it, and while it's premature, his season could be in jeopardy.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow to face Phils Saturday

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 19:20:23 -0700

Confirming a previous report, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow will start against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, July 23, according to manager Clint Hurdle.

Fantasy Tip: Despite struggling against the Cardinals in a spot start earlier this month, Glasnow should be viewed as a decent low-end option in daily fantasy contests versus the Phillies' anemic offense. The 23-year-old right-hander was 7-3 with a 1.94 ERA through 18 starts for Class AAA Indianapolis, with 122 strikeouts in just 102 innings.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow in mix for Saturday start

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 07:51:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow is in the discussion to start Saturday, July 23, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Glasnow would have a decent matchup if he's tabbed for the start, and he'd be a low-end DFS option.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow in a holding pattern

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 05:46:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow isn't listed as a scheduled starter for Class AAA Indianapolis after the All-Star break, and the team is trying to deal SP Jon Niese or SP Jeff Locke to open a spot for him in the Pirates' rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Glasnow has a ton of potential and should be held onto in traditional formats if possible. At worst, he'll make a few starts in the minors before returning when rosters expand in September.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow back to minors

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 12:40:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow was sent back to Class AAA Indianapolis to make way for the promotion of 1B Josh Bell to the parent club.

Fantasy Tip: Glasnow took the loss and allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings of work Thursday, July 7. He was primarily a fill-in with starters such as Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon out of the rotation, so Glasnow may not get a chance immediately. Still, stash him away in deeper NL and mixed leagues just in case. There's a chance Glasnow could see more action, especially if other injuries occur or the Pirates trade away pitchers like Jon Niese.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow loses in MLB debut

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 15:20:04 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow finally made his long-awaited debut Thursday, July 7, against the St. Louis Cardinals, but it resulted in a loss for the top prospect. Glasnow worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, including a homer. He also struck out five and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: Not a bad outing from the 22-year-old youngster, and he probably fared better than his final numbers indicate, as he left with two runners on, when the bullpen promptly allowed those runs to score on a three-run bomb soon after. Glasnow had only surrendered two runs going into the sixth inning, so he was looking solid here against a top division rival on the road. Keep starting him, as better days should be immediately ahead for the right-hander, but also keep in mind that he could be sent down early in the second half as soon as Gerrit Cole is ready to return.

Pirates | Jon Niese likely to start Sunday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 17:45:19 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese (knee) is expected to start against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, July 10, even though he visited a doctor to have his left knee examined Wednesday, July 6. He was originally slated to pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, July 7, but SP Tyler Glasnow will start instead.

Fantasy Tip: Niese has struggled mightily over the last few weeks and is not a recommended pitching option in any fantasy format. The 29-year-old lefty is 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA in seven starts since June 1.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow to start Thursday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 07:37:02 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow will start Thursday, July 7, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: This is a much better matchup for Glasnow than the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals have been pretty bad at home and have lost a couple of bats due to injury this week. Glasnow is 7-2 with a 1.78 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and 113 K's in 96 innings at Class AAA Indianapolis. He should be owned in all formats and would be a midrange DFS start.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow to make debut

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 06:37:40 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow will be called up to make his major league debut this weekend, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Glasnow is the team's top pitching prospect and has had a stellar season at Class AAA Indianapolis. He is 7-2 with a 1.78 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and 113 K's in 96 innings. The kid is a blue-chipper, but his start will come against the loaded Chicago Cubs. Glasnow should be owned in all leagues because there is potential for him to stick in the rotation and be an upper-level starter the rest of the way.
