Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has a Grade 3 hamstring strain, according to two baseball sources.
Fantasy Tip: If the reports are confirmed, Zimmerman is likely done for the season. Anthony Rendon has taken over at third base, but second base has been a platoon of Danny Espinosa, Zach Walters and Kevin Frandsen. Espinosa has the only real value, in NL-only leagues, but the team could address second base at the trade deadline.

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals will use 2B Danny Espinsoa, 2B Kevin Frandsen and SS Zach Walters at second base while 2B/3B Anthony Rendon serves as the everyday third baseman with 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) sidelined. Manager Matt Williams said he will not just hand the job over to anyone in particular, and that he has decided the three players will battle it out.
Fantasy Tip: Daily fantasy owners will keep a close eye on the lineups an hour or two before game time. You can get good bargains in salary-cap formats, particularly if Frandsen or Walters are given the nod. They have generally had salary cap figures in the lower tier.

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa and Zach Walters will keep splitting time based on matchups and hot-hand plays, according to manager Matt Williams.
Fantasy Tip: This adds shakiness to Espinosa's value, along with the possibility of the Nats adding a more stable 2B, like Aaron Hill.

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 25, against the Cincinnati Reds. SS Zach Walters is starting at second base and hitting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Remove Espinosa from your lineups in NL-only formats or deep leagues.

The Washington Nationals activated 1B Adam LaRoche (quadriceps) from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, May 24. In the corresponding move, the team optioned INF Zach Walters to Triple-A Syracuse.
Fantasy Tip: LaRoche is back just in time for the new week. Barring any setbacks in Sunday's game, it appears safe to plug the slugging left-hander back into the active fantasy lineup.

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams said Saturday, March 1, that he will not attempt to alter the power stroke of prospect SS Zach Walters. "I think his stroke is his stroke. It's very difficult to change a tiger's stripes," Williams said. "He has power from both sides of the plate. I think the maturation process is such that as he goes within his career, he'll learn that some home runs come and you can't force them. You can't stand up there and say, 'I'm a power guy, and this is what I do', and get away from your game, whatever it is. So I'd like to see him eventually become a .300 hitter with power."
