Houston Texans P Brett Hartmann has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs. The NFL counted the Texans' second playoff game as one of the games, so Hartmann will sit out the first three games of the 2012 season.

Houston Texans special teams coordinator Joe Marciano replaced P Brett Hartmann on kickoffs in the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens. PK Neil Rackers replaced him in that game, and might kickoff in Week 7. "It was a little windy in Baltimore and he (Hartmann) struggled on that one and flipped the field position for us," Kubiak said. "Neil has been kicking very well for us, so Joe put him in there. We'll see."

The Houston Texans have signed free-agent OG Thomas Austin (Patriots) and P Brett Hartmann (Texans). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also released LB Jesse Nading.
