Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said RB DuJuan Harris will get the chance to compete for the starting job next season. McCarthy said he would like to use only two running backs next season and not five running backs like he did in 2012.
Fantasy Tip: Harris performed well when he joined the Packers near the end of the season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry during the regular season. The Packers could still look to add another running back this offseason, which makes Harris' value a question mark at this point. The team does not run the ball a lot, so Harris should be seen as a No. 4 running back until his role on offense becomes clearer.

The Green Bay Packers feel the need to find a lead back heading into the 2013 season, and that man may not be on the current roster. The Packers shuffled through as many as six running backs this season and weren't satisfied with any of their options. Among the unrestricted free agents they could target this offseason include St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson, Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush, Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones and New York Jets RB Shonn Greene. Green Bay would likely be interested in Jackson in the secondary market because he'll be 30 this year.
The Packers had some success using RBs DuJuan Harris, Alex Green and James Starks, but only enough to occasionally draw an opponent's safety into the box. "If you're running the ball and they're closing the middle of the field and bringing an extra guy down, it obviously plays to our strengths as a pass group," running backs coach Alex Van Pelt said. "There were times when I thought we forced their hand and they had to stop it, but we'd obviously like to be more consistent and more productive from start to finish." Harris has plenty of potential, but his lack of size led him to wear down at the end. Green Bay is unlikely to take another chance with RB Cedric Benson and the team might not be willing to pay Starks $1.323 million given his injury history.

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green, Ryan Grant, James Starks and DuJuan Harris combined for only 25 catches during the regular season. RB Cedric Benson (foot) caught 14 passes and was on pace for 44 catches this season before he was placed on Injured Reserve.

Green Bay Packers RB DuJuan Harris caught five passes for 53 yards in the Wild Card playoff game after catching only two passes in the regular season. The Packers did not use Harris as a receiver at first because they were not comfortable having him in the backfield protecting QB Aaron Rodgers. The coaches are more comfortable with Harris in the role and he has been on the field for more passing plays over the last three games than any other running back except for FB John Kuhn.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Sunday, Jan. 6, that RB DuJuan Harris has "something to do with" the team's growing focus on the run game.

Green Bay Packers running backs coach Alex Van Pelt said RB DuJuan Harris practiced without sleeves Wednesday, Jan. 2, to try and get comfortable playing in cold weather. Van Pelt said ball security could be a factor in the cold weather but Harris has big hands for his size which should help in that area. RB Ryan Grant could receive more carries in the Wild Card playoff game because he has played in cold weather playoff games before. Van Pelt said RB Alex Green will be available to the coaches whenever they need him to play.

Green Bay Packers RB DuJuan Harris may the team's primary running back in the team's Wild Card playoff game even though head coach Mike McCarthy has not named a main running back for the game. McCarthy said the team will get Harris, RB Alex Green and RB Ryan Grant ready to play and will see how the game is going before deciding which back will get the most carries.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday, Dec. 26, that he plans to use RBs Ryan Grant, Alex Green and DuJuan Harris in the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He plans to use the hot player, and not play favorites.

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks (knee) is dealing with a bone bruise in his right knee, and head coach Mike McCarthy plans to have him back for the playoffs. "Yeah, it's a lot better," Starks said. "Just how I was bent, when you look at it, it looked a lot worse. So I just thank God for being able to possibly come back and do well. So no real, serious bad injuries." Starks hasn't been able to practice but he's been staying busy in the weight room. In his absence, the Packers have gone with a combination of RBs Alex Green, DuJuan Harris and Ryan Grant.
