Mets | Michael Conforto draws out against Philly

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 12:55:51 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. OF Juan Lagares is starting in center field and batting leadoff against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has received limited playing time of late with just seven starts in August. However, he does own a .378/.395/.622 slash line for the month. FantasyScore players should view Lagares as a solid value play Monday, as he'll set the table for a rolling lineup. Conforto ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has also played well when called upon and owns a respectable .840 OPS through his first 21 games at the highest level. His uncertain playing time makes him a low-end outfield option in the majority of seasonal leagues, though.

Mets | Michael Cuddyer sitting vs. Orioles

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 13:42:03 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Cuddyer is not starting Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Juan Lagares draws into the lineup in center field and is batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Cuddyer ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He is just 4-for-20 without an extra-base hit since being activated off the disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 11. Seasonal owners should be looking for an upgrade. Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) hasn't been receiving many at-bats recently, as he has started just five games in August. He does have a .370/.393/.667 slash line through 28 plate appearances this month, though. Still, FantasyScore players can likely find better values than Lagares.

Mets | Juan Lagares starting again

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 13:12:11 -0700

New York Mets OF Juan Lagares is starting in center field and hitting leadoff against Pittsburgh Pirates SP J.A. Happ Friday, Aug. 14. OF Michael Conforto sits again against a left-handed pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto will likely only be in the starting lineup moving forward when facing right-handed pitchers. Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has heated up a bit of late with some regular playing time, and his matchup against Happ is intriguing. Consider him a sleeper pick that could pay out if he stays hot.

Mets | Michael Conforto out vs. Colorado

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 12:18:55 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is out of the lineup for the second straight day against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Jorge De La Rosa Wednesday, Aug. 12. OF Juan Lagares is starting in center field for the second straight night and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto should be back in the starting lineup when the Mets face a right-handed pitcher again. Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) was productive out of the leadoff spot last night but is still hitting only .257 (94-for-366) with three home runs and 30 RBI on the season. He remains a very mediocre offensive weapon for FantasyScore users.

Mets | Juan Lagares makes most of opportunity

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 19:26:24 -0700

New York Mets OF Juan Lagares went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI during the Mets' 4-0 win over the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) had only started one other game in August, so he cannot be rostered in anything other than cavernous mixed and NL-only seasonal leagues. However, he could earn a few more at-bats going forward because of his big game Tuesday. FantasyScore players can look to Lagares as a potential value play when he is in the starting lineup.

Mets | Curtis Granderson out vs. lefty

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 13:26:43 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson is not in the lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Chris Rusin Tuesday, Aug. 11. OF Juan Lagares is starting in center field and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) hasn't done much this year offensively and has lost considerable playing time as a result. He's hitting .267 (20-for-75) with one of his three home runs against lefties in 2015. Even in the leadoff spot, there's not much to like about Lagares at FantasyScore.

Mets | Juan Lagares losing playing time

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 12:19:58 -0700

New York Mets OF Juan Lagares has started just three of the team's last 10 games but is hitting .348 in his last 18 matchups against the Miami Marlins, who the Mets face Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares' ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) playing time could get even worse once Michael Cuddyer (knee) returns from the DL this weekend. Lagares should only be owned in NL-only leagues at this rate, and he's a very weak FantasyScore pick.

Brewers | MIL denies Carlos Gomez hip issue

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:18:20 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Carlos Gomez (hip) was the centerpiece of a deal that fell apart with the New York Mets due to an alleged hip issue. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and Gomez's agent, Scott Boras, denied Gomez had an issue with his hip. According to a source, the Mets wanted the Brewers to take OF Juan Lagares in the deal, but the Brewers declined because Lagares has an elbow issue. Lagares also has a four-year, $23 million extension that kicks in next year, and the Brewers didn't want to pick up the money. The Mets swapped in SS Wilmer Flores in the deal and wanted a draft pick, which the Brewers declined. The Brewers were also asked to include cash in the deal and declined. After the Brewers declined to include cash in the deal, the Mets called off the deal because of Gomez's medical records.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as if Gomez's hip condition is overblown or even a smokescreen. At $5,400 (10.8% of cap), Gomez remains a high-end outfielder. However, it might be best to avoid him on FantasyScore until after the July 31 deadline passes.
