New York Mets OF Chris B. Young made it clear that he prefers to play center field. If OF Juan Lagares is the starter in center, it would likely push Young to left field. If OF Eric Young Jr. isn't the team's leadoff hitter, SS Ruben Tejada and Young are alternatives.

New York Mets OF Eric Young Jr. said he would love nothing more than to hit leadoff for the team this season, but he knows he needs to raise his on-base percentage in order to do so. Young was ranked dead last in 2013 among National League hitters with at least 325 plate appearances in the leadoff spot in terms of OBP (.318). New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said OF Curtis Granderson won't be asked to play center field this year. OF Juan Lagares will start the opener in spring training, but he'll have to earn the job. The team will go with the best three offensive weapons in the outfield, meaning OFs Eric Young Jr. and Chris B. Young could also be options.
Fantasy Tip: ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin is suggesting that Eric Young is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of playing time in the outfield over Lagares, if he can improve his on-base percentage. Granderson and Chris Young are expected to fill the corner outfield spots.

New York Mets OF Eric Young Jr. is the club's top candidate to hit leadoff in 2014, according to manager Terry Collins. However, Collins acknowledges that "anything is possible" in spring training. Chris Young is a career .255 hitter against righties and .262 against lefties.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said OFs Juan Lagares and Chris B. Young will compete for the center field spot next season, but he also left with a strong impression that it's Lagares' job to lose. "So I think Chris is in a competition for center field. … I think, realistically, we'll see what Juan does offensively in spring training and go from there. I won't be surprised to see Juan Lagares in center for the first exhibition game and Chris in right or left." Young is expected to bat somewhere between fifth and seventh in the lineup.
