Cubs | Jake Arrieta to be tendered

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:46:10 -0800

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta is expected to be tendered a contract by the deadline Wednesday, Dec. 2. SP Travis Wood, RPs Pedro Strop, Hector Rondon, Justin Grimm, Ryan Cook and Rex Brothers and OF Chris Coghlan are also expected to be tendered. Arrieta will be a free agent after the 2017 season, and the Cubs are interested in a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: After Arrieta's Cy Young season in 2015, he'll surely be very expensive in fantasy baseball drafts next spring. He has now risen to the elite level of starting pitchers, and you'll have to spend an early round pick to secure him.

Athletics | Kendall Graveman sent down

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 14:01:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, April 26. RP Ryan Cook took his place on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: Graveman ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was roughed up in his last start and showed signs of needing more seasoning. Take him off your list of starters to consider until he returns.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle feeling better

Mon, 09 Feb 2015 11:25:26 -0800

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is feeling much better after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder to alleviate swelling and irritation. He's started range-of-motion stretching. However, there's no timetable for when he'll throw again, and he's still expected to miss the start of the season. RPs Tyler Clippard, Eric O'Flaherty and Ryan Cook are the obvious candidates to take over closing duties with Doolittle out.

Athletics | Ryan Cook continues impressive scoreless streak

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 09:17:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Ryan Cook had a perfect seventh inning against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, Aug. 12, extending his scoreless streak to 20 innings, which is the longest active streak in the majors right now.

Fantasy Tip: Cook isn't extremely valuable to fantasy owners because he's not closing games out in the ninth, but he's been pretty darn good otherwise, making him valuable in AL-only leagues for his peripherals alone.

Tue, 03 Jun 2014 14:26:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Ryan Cook will be eased back into non-pressure bullpen situations, said manager Bob Melvin.

Athletics | Josh Reddick to DL, Ryan Cook activated

Tue, 03 Jun 2014 09:46:15 -0700

The Oakland Athletics placed OF Josh Reddick (knee) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 3, and activated RP Ryan Cook (forearm) from the 15-day DL in a corresponding move. Reddick's DL stint is retroactive to June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick's absence means Craig Gentry should see plenty of time in right field, and he's a notable addition in AL-only leagues to shore up your outfield depth. Cook returns to a bullpen that has seen Sean Doolittle take a hold on the closer duties. For now, Cook should only be owned in AL-only leagues as a long-term option for save chances down the road.
