Despite his recent struggles, the Indianapolis Colts have said they would look long-term with RB Trent Richardson instead of focusing on the negatives at the moment. "Wait until he has the rest of this season, wait until he has an off-season with us, goes through a training camp with us," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "We've just got to keep it real. It's not an easy thing for anybody, let alone Trent who came in with all the hype that comes from being the third overall pick. He won't make any excuses. And we won't make any excuses for him. But reality is reality. It's not an easy thing."

ESPN's Matt Williamson said he believes Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson is struggling because he is being tentative while running and does not seem to fully know the scheme yet. "Just looking at him, I think he's been tentative since he's been here. I feel like he's uncomfortable knowing when to hit the holes and what their scheme is. He's lost mentally. It doesn't mean he's not smart. I think he's not tuned in to exactly what they're doing. It's not natural for him, not knowing exactly where to go, thinking too much," Williamson said.
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 05:22:49 -0800
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne said RB Trent Richardson came to him after his demotion and said he never grasped the offense. "He came to me, he wasn't pouting or anything," Wayne said. "This was the next day after he found out he was demoted and he said, 'Now I can sit back and actually watch the way it's supposed to be done.' He kind of feels that he was maybe forced into it early without actually learning it."
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 07:05:53 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown played 49 of 65 offensive snaps in Week 13. RB Trent Richardson played just 13 snaps.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 18:04:50 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said Sunday, Dec. 1, that RB Trent Richardson was "awesome" and "a pro" about being demoted from the starting lineup for the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans in favor of RB Donald Brown. Richardson managed 19 yards on five carries.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 09:33:45 -0800
The Indianapolis Colts still believe in RB Trent Richardson but are starting RB Donald Brown because he has played well and they have playoff positioning to fight for.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 06:36:07 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson has been demoted on the depth chart, and RB Donald Brown has been named the team's starter.
Fantasy Tip: This news is not much of a surprise as Richardson has struggled of late. Brown should be considered a low-end RB1 moving forward.
Sat, 23 Nov 2013 09:38:43 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he expects RB Trent Richardson (calf) will be able to play in the team's Week 12 game.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013 12:25:35 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (calf) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 22, and is listed as questionable for Week 12.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson has not done much since joining the team and probably will be only a flex option if he is able to play this week.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013 08:20:30 -0800
The Indianapolis Colts do not plan to change their usage of their running backs, despite RB Trent Richardson's struggles and RB Donald Brown's success. "We don't plan on changing our rotation with our backs," offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said. "We've always been a running back by committee bunch, so we're going to continue to do that."
Thu, 21 Nov 2013 15:23:47 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (calf) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 21.
Fantasy Tip: We're assuming this injury is minor, even though he wasn't listed on the report yesterday. It's the last thing Richardson needs, though, to convince his owners that he's worth playing. At best, T-Rich has become an RB3 or flex.
Tue, 19 Nov 2013 09:28:52 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson said he doesn't think he's having that bad of a season since being traded to the Colts, despite averaging only 2.8 yards per carry. "I'm not frustrated at all because I think I've been playing good," Richardson said. "If you turn on the film, I don't have any missed assignments. I haven't had any missed reads. I've been playing good. Stuff just hasn't matched up like we thought it would when I'm in there. I think teams match up differently when I come in." Head coach Chuck Pagano also somewhat agrees that opposing defenses have sold out against the run when Richardson is on the field. RB Donald Brown remains the complementary back to Richardson, and he's stated his case for a bigger role on offense with his performances the past few weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Whichever way you want to look at it, Brown is gaining momentum and more touches out of the backfield, making Richardson more of a weak RB2 or flex play each week. However, he may retain some value in point-per-reception leagues if they continue to look to get him in space with short passes like they did in Week 11.
Sat, 16 Nov 2013 06:16:43 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he does not know what is going on with RB Trent Richardson's runs. "I don't know if he's snake bit, I don't know what the heck is going on," Pagano said. "We'll get it fixed. We'll get the holes there. He's making the right reads, he's doing all the right things, he knows what to do. He played great without the ball, protection-wise, those things. His numbers are going to come. I'm not concerned about that."
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 17:11:31 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said Friday, Nov. 15, that he still believes in RB Trent Richardson, and he said he could make the trade all over again with the Cleveland Browns to get Richardson. He added there is "absolutely" no buyer's remorse. "Richardson is making the right reads, hitting the right hole. His numbers will come. I'm not worried about that," Pagano said.
Fantasy Tip: While that might be true, there is picker's remorse for fantasy owners, as Richardson has done next to nothing this season, and now Donald Brown appears to have blown past him on the depth chart. Richardson is only worth using as an RB3 or flex fantasy play in leagues of 12 or more teams until he gets untracked.
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 17:09:34 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown appears to have seized control of the top spot on the depth chart ahead of RB Trent Richardson, and his performance in the Week 11 game against the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Nov. 14, delighted head coach Chuck Pagano. "Donald had an exceptional football game," Pagano said Friday, Nov. 15. "He is playing really well, running hard, hitting the hole, (gaining) yards after contact."
Fantasy Tip: Brown has emerged as a solid RB2 or flex fantasy option, blowing past Richardson, even if Pagano isn't ready to concede the job is Brown's.
Wed, 13 Nov 2013 11:15:30 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson allegedly has a sex tape that is being shopped around the internet. Richardson nor his representatives have commented on the origins or veracity of the rumored sex tape. He has just 88 rushes for 250 yards for a 2.8 yards per carry mark in his time with the Colts and has scored just two touchdowns on the year.
Fantasy Tip: This is the last thing Richardson needs in the midst of his down year and lack of production after being traded to Indianapolis. Perhaps it motivates him down the stretch?
Sun, 10 Nov 2013 06:23:10 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) will play in the team's Week 10 game.
Fantasy Tip: Even with Richardson in the lineup, be prepared for a heavy dose of Donald Brown. Richardson may be limited by the ankle injury he is dealing with.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 16:47:13 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) will be in the lineup for the Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams, and offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said Friday, Nov. 8, that he wants to figure out ways to get Richardson going. "I just have to find ways to creatively get the ball to Trent," Hamilton said Friday, Nov. 8. "A lot of different ways, not just out in space, but do a better job with run schemes that feature his instincts. But he's gotten better each week, and we expect that he'll continue to make big plays for us."
Fantasy Tip: Richardson has given his new team and fantasy owners next to nothing in terms of production, and now he is nicked up a little. It sounds like the team is trying to jump-start him, but he is only worth using as a flex fantasy option at this point.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 12:19:22 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 8, and is questionable for Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: Even with Richardson likely to play, Donald Brown will still likely get a lot of carries. There is a good chance Richardson will not be at full strength.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 08:28:40 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Nov. 8.
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 10:03:26 -0800
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) is expected to play in the team's Week 10 game, despite missing two straight days of practice.
Fantasy Tip: T-Rich's value has been down since coming to the Colts, and it's not inspiring that he hasn't practiced yet this week. Donald Brown figures to see plenty of work even if Richardson plays against the St. Louis Rams, and the matchup makes him a nice PPR sleeper. Consider Richardson a weak RB2 or decent RB3 this week.
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:41:02 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) was not participating in the portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Nov. 7.
Fantasy Tip: With Richardson appearing to miss practice for the second straight day, there is cause for concern. If he can't go, or is limited, Donald Brown would be the biggest beneficiary.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 13:49:41 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Fantasy Tip: Head coach Chuck Pagano did not mention anything being up with Richardson when he spoke to reporters, so that would point to the idea that nothing major is going on here. If Richardson is slowed at all, Donald Brown would be the main beneficiary.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 09:23:07 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said the team wants to continue to have RB Trent Richardson involved in the passing game moving forward.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 11:54:00 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) will take some time to decide whether to undergo surgery on his neck. "Ahmad has obviously seen several specialist, collected a lot of information," head coach Chuck Pagano said. "He's going to take the next couple of weeks to kind of sit back and decide where he's going to go with this thing. I don't know ultimately where that is. But in the end, it'll be up to Ahmad and the doctors to come to a final decision on what's going to transpire there. He'll be out at least a couple more weeks." RB Trent Richardson will continue as the starting running back, with RBs Donald Brown and Robert Hughes backing him up.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Bradshaw's chances of returning anytime soon, let alone this season. Dropping him for more valuable options at this time is probably the right course of action. Brown is worth stashing in deeper leagues as insurance for T-Rich.
Wed, 02 Oct 2013 09:19:35 -0700
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he is not concerned about the stats RB Trent Richardson has put up since joining the team because Richardson is still getting accustomed to the offensive system. Pagano said he believes Richardson has been close to breaking several long runs.
Fantasy Tip: Pagano is showing confidence in Richardson and will be sticking with him because he understands Richardson will need time to get comfortable with the offense. Richardson should be in starting fantasy lineups because he is the main man in Indianapolis.
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 10:24:12 -0700
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) will not play in the team's Week 4 game. Bradshaw suffered a neck injury in Week 3, and doctors are trying to figure out what is wrong.
Fantasy Tip: Obviously this means an increased workload for Trent Richardson, who you need to get into your lineup in all fantasy football formats.
Thu, 26 Sep 2013 14:31:40 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 26.
Fantasy Tip: Bradshaw injured his neck in the team's Week 3 victory. It's unclear what the exact seriousness of the ailment is, but it's not a good sign that he has yet to practice this week. Keep tabs on his status tomorrow. If he doesn't play, Trent Richardson, who is already a must-start, will see his value go up.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 11:51:57 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw said he expects to create a productive tandem with RB Trent Richardson this season. "Me and Trent are going to be a two-headed monster. They made a business decision and it was a great decision. Trent is an excellent player and it's going to work out for both of us, two great running backs," Bradshaw said.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 08:27:07 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw had 19 rushes for 95 yards and a touchdown in Week 3. RB Trent Richardson had 13 carries for 35 yards and a score.
Fantasy Tip: Bradshaw isn't going out without a struggle. The team can afford to slowly work T-Rich in the offense, which gives Bradshaw a little time to establish himself enough to work a 50-50 split.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 09:27:36 -0700
The Indianapolis Colts plan on giving RB Trent Richardson 10 to 15 touches during their Week 3 game.
Sat, 21 Sep 2013 06:04:45 -0700
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton was shocked that the Cleveland Browns were willing to trade RB Trent Richardson, and believes his offense will benefit from this decision. "It was shocking that we would have a chance to acquire such a commodity," Hamilton said. "I think it's just awesome. It's an awesome deal for the Colts and the Colts fans to have an opportunity to have such a special young player on the roster now."
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 15:07:33 -0700
The Cleveland Browns initiated the trade that sent RB Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 09:32:30 -0700
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said RB Trent Richardson will get as much as he can handle in the team's Week 3 game. "We did not bring him in here to be the water boy on Sunday," he said. "He'll be ready to roll."
Fantasy Tip: It'll be tough to sit Richardson in this scenario, but if there ever was one, this is the week to bypass him, depending on what your other options are. The Colts are going up against a stout San Francisco 49ers run defense, and Richardson won't have much time to prepare in a new offense. Expect Ahmad Bradshaw to maintain short-term point-per-reception value until T-Rich is up to speed.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 15:36:35 -0700
The Cleveland Browns traded RB Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday, Sept. 18, in exchange for a first-round draft pick next year.
Fantasy Tip: Sooo, the Browns will have two first-round picks in 2014, but they gave up a potential franchise player to do so. Willis McGahee will be signed to become the new lead back, but Chris Ogbonnaya could see valuable touches in the backfield, as well. McGahee could be a decent flex play in most weeks.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 15:15:45 -0700
The Indianapolis Colts acquired RB Trent Richardson from the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Sept. 18, in exchange for their first-round pick next year.
Fantasy Tip: T-Rich's value should increase with this move to a much more efficient offense under a more productive and talented quarterback. Ahmad Bradshaw owners won't be happy with this move, and although he'll likely still see some touches, he'll primarily just be a handcuff for Richardson owners now. To find out what the Browns will do in the backfield now, click here.
Thu, 12 Sep 2013 13:21:07 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson, who ran the ball 13 times for 47 yards in the Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins, made it known that he'd like to have a bigger workload. "I just don't think they stopped the running game," he said, referring to the Dolphins. "I think we stopped it ourselves as far as we were behind and stuff like that. We've just got to keep fighting and know that no matter what, we've got to stick to our game plan. I guess Coach had another game plan and it went that way." Richardson didn't receive a single carry in the fourth quarter with the team trailing.
Fantasy Tip: The Browns are already planning on giving T-Rich the ball at least 20 times in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. However, if they fall behind early, his carries could tail off once again near the end of the game. Richardson should still be seen as an RB1, for now.
Thu, 12 Sep 2013 08:14:00 -0700
Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he wants RB Trent Richardson to have more than 20 carries in Week 2.
Fantasy Tip: T-Rich had 13 carries in Week 1, but he wasn't getting a lot done on first down. A lot will depend on whether the team can remain in games instead of being down and having to throw.
Tue, 10 Sep 2013 13:17:36 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski defended getting away from the running game in the team's Week 1 game. "You can always second-guess everything when you don't win," said Chudzinski. "We had some things we liked. Some of them came up, some didn't quite as well. And they tightened up a little bit against the run when we got into the third quarter."
Chudzinski also talked about how it is important to keep RB Trent Richardson fresh throughout the game.
"We want to make sure that he stays fresh as well and that's part of the plan," said Chudzinski.
Fantasy Tip: Even with a mediocre outing in Week 1, Richardson is still a must start running back in every format.
Wed, 28 Aug 2013 09:33:12 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson has developed chemistry with his offensive line thanks to his availability in training camp this year. Last year, he had surgery on his knee just after camp began. His timing and rhythm with his group of blockers are much improved over last year's. OT Joe Thomas believes Richardson has grown as a player, too. "I'm expecting some great things from him this year," said the lineman.
Fantasy Tip: This just further supports the notion that T-Rich will be the honored guest of a coming-out party in 2013, his second year in the league. He's a top-five RB in the making, in any format.
Tue, 27 Aug 2013 18:22:32 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya showed an ability to block for RB Trent Richardson as the fullback during training camp and the preseason, as well as play tailback. Ogbonnaya's versatility made FB Owen Marecic, who was cut Tuesday, Aug. 27, expendable.
Tue, 27 Aug 2013 18:22:01 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is now the team's primary backup to RB Trent Richardson after the loss of both RBs Montario Hardesty (knee) and Dion Lewis (fibula) to the season-ending Injured Reserve list. "Brandon is a reliable guy," head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 27. "I have no issues with Brandon. Trent will be the guy we're counting on in a lot of different ways. We have to do a good job of keeping him fresh throughout the course of the season."
Tue, 27 Aug 2013 17:04:22 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that most starters will play 10-12 plays in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 29, against the Chicago Bears, but some might sit out. The coach said the team will announced the lineups Wednesday, Aug. 28. RB Trent Richardson is unlikely to play.
Tue, 27 Aug 2013 08:30:50 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson said he played at 236-237 pounds last season because he wasn't able to run. He plans to play at 225 pounds this year.
Fantasy Tip: He has been reportedly faster this season. This can only be a good thing in what could be a big year.
Wed, 21 Aug 2013 11:48:10 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said most of the starters will play into the third quarter during the team's third preseason game, but RB Trent Richardson (shin) will be one of the players that comes out earlier.
Tue, 20 Aug 2013 19:19:30 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson absorbed a big hit from Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh in the preseason game over the weekend. Despite the big hit, he made it through the game healthy. "I feel good," Richardson said. "I finally got a real big hit. I didn't feel it at the time, but a couple days later, it was like, 'Aah, this man did hit me pretty hard.' But it was fun."
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 17:12:01 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) will play "a couple of series" in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions, head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners would probably prefer to see Richardson rest another week and not risk a setback. It's probably a good move letting him get in there and see some game action, however.
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 12:48:30 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) is no longer wearing protective covering on his right shin and said he is 100 percent healthy. His practice workload increased last weekend, but the team hasn't decided if they'll let him play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15. "In the back of your mind you've got to realize it's preseason and coach is gonna do the best thing for me to put me in the best position to stay healthy for the whole season," he said. "It's good and bad. I feel I can be ready to go Sept. 8 without playing any preseason. I feel I can be ready with playing preseason." RB Dion Lewis has taken most of the first-team reps when Richardson hasn't practiced.
Fantasy Tip: You should have no reservations about selecting Richardson in the middle to end of Round 1 in fantasy football drafts this year. If you're a bit worried about his health, Lewis appears to be the main handcuff option right now.
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 09:12:59 -0700
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) likely won't know until Wednesday, Aug. 14, whether or not he will make his preseason debut Thursday, Aug. 15, against the Detroit Lions.
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 17:04:19 -0700
Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson (shin) said he wants to play in the team's next preseason game, but is leaving it up to the coaching staff on what the plan is. "I expect to play. I expect to play each game. I'm gonna leave it in Coach's hands, whatever he thinks is best for the team," Richardson said.
