Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Saturday, July 26, because of a soft tissue issue, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Pagano said the team is being careful with Richardson and want him to be 100 percent before he returns to the field.
Fri, 25 Jul 2014 16:08:49 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Vick Ballard (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during practice Friday, July 25.
Fantasy Tip: Ballard likely will miss the entire season because of the injury. Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw probably will get a majority of the reps at the position unless the team adds another back. Richardson should be considered a starting running back in all fantasy leagues, while Bradshaw probably would be a later-round pick that could be a No. 4 or 5 running back on a team.
Fri, 25 Jul 2014 12:30:10 -0700
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (knee) is being held out of practice Friday, July 25, as a precaution. It is believed the issue is knee related.
Fantasy Tip: This is obviously something to monitor as we get into training camp, although it does not sound like there is anything to be concerned with at this point.
Fri, 25 Jul 2014 11:54:11 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Friday, July 25.
Mon, 14 Jul 2014 18:53:50 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson should improve on his 2.9 yards per carry average in 2014, according to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com. Bowen believes Richardson will benefit from playing in the same offensive system for the second year in a row for the first time in his NFL career.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson will get the first shot at starting this season and has some upside, but with his poor play last season and Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard waiting to steal carries, he should be viewed as a low-end RB2.
Sat, 12 Jul 2014 09:15:31 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson will need to produce right away in the running game if he wants to keep the starting job, because the team will not wait for him to turn things around if RB Ahmad Bradshaw or Vick Ballard are playing well.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson is getting the first chance to start, but he could find himself on the bench if he fails to produce. Richardson should be considered a low-end No. 2 running back in drafts this season. Owners could consider taking a late-round flier on Bradshaw or Ballard since there is a chance they could take over the starting job if Richardson falters, but it is not known which back would have more value at this point.
Fri, 11 Jul 2014 10:31:38 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson has greatly benefitted from extra time spent in the classroom, according to offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. Hamilton said Richardson will be better this season after facing a tough situation following his trade to Indianapolis.
Fantasy Tip: There are high, or at least higher, expectations for Richardson in his second season with the Colts. From what's been said this offseason, it sounds like he's improving nicely. He should be the Colts' starting running back, but RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard will also be involved. Richardson should be considered a low-end RB2 in standard leagues with more upside in PPR leagues.
Mon, 30 Jun 2014 13:20:08 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson will be given the first shot at starting running back. He is more talented than RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard, and the Colts don't want to show that their trade for him last September was a failure.
Fantasy Tip: Due to Richardson's poor 2013 season, he stands to reward nicely as an RB2. Bradshaw and Ballard are late-round fliers.
Thu, 19 Jun 2014 11:43:06 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson is using his instincts when running instead of thinking the play through, according to coaches. Richardson has a chance to be a three-down player.
Fantasy Tip: If Richardson can prove to be a three-down player, his fantasy stock will surely rise. He's currently listed as the team's No. 1 running back in front of Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard. For now, consider him a weak RB2 in standard leagues.
Mon, 16 Jun 2014 12:22:26 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RBs Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw wore red non-contact jerseys during organized team activities as they compete for the team's starting running back role. That battle is expected to intensify during training camp, but both will see playing time, no matter who is the official starter. Head coach Chuck Pagano has stated he wants a workhorse running back, however.
Fantasy Tip: Our money would be on Richardson to be that workhorse for the Colts. Bradshaw and Vick Ballard are coming off injuries and Richardson needs this season to prove he wasn't a trade bust. If the Colts continue to use Richardson in the passing game the way they did later on in the 2013 season, he should be a safe PPR RB3 with RB2 potential. It's best to use more caution with Bradshaw, who is currently listed as the team's No. 3 running back.
Mon, 02 Jun 2014 12:27:04 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson said he's feeling more fluid at organized team activities. He added that timing has helped him better understand how the offense works.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson was one of the bigger disappointments from a fantasy perspective last year. And while this is good news, itís still best to approach with caution. He shouldn't be drafted higher than a low-end RB2 at this point in standard leagues.
Sun, 01 Jun 2014 13:06:41 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson said he was up to 240 pounds because he "ate well" in the offseason and was limited in what he could accomplish cardio-wise after his shoulder surgery. He's now lost 15 pounds and is back to 225 pounds.
Thu, 24 Apr 2014 06:12:57 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson said after reviewing tape of the 2013 season he thinks he was trying to do too much. "It's human. But you can't hit the home run. You have to set up your runs," Richardson said. "That's one thing, (because of) not having as much success as I've always had, you catch yourself saying, 'I gotta score, I gotta score.' "
Fri, 18 Apr 2014 17:18:38 -0700
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said it will be important for RB Trent Richardson to participate in all of the offseason workouts so he can get more comfortable with the offense. "He wants to be great. He's got all the talent. He's got all the ability. We would have never done what we did if we didn't believe that deep down in our core. So we look for him to have a great offseason and to have a great 2014 campaign," Pagano said.
Mon, 24 Feb 2014 00:01:03 -0800
The New York Jets may have interest in free-agent RB Donald Brown (Colts), who may be stuck behind RB Trent Richardson on the Colts' depth chart should he return.
Fri, 21 Feb 2014 10:40:50 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said the sky is the limit for RB Trent Richardson and that having a full offseason will help him in preparation for 2014.
Thu, 20 Feb 2014 13:03:31 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (shoulder) underwent shoulder surgery following the season, but it was "just a scope." The surgery shouldn't affect his offseason training.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson will come cheaply next season thanks to a very unproductive 2013 season, and he may be third on the team's depth chart. That means, at best, he should be drafted as a flex option in deep leagues.
Sat, 15 Feb 2014 17:41:09 -0800
Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent RB Donald Brown likely would be behind RBs Vick Ballard and Trent Richardson on the depth chart if he re-signs with the team this offseason.
Wed, 05 Feb 2014 12:48:39 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson plans on spending the offseason studying the playbook and learning the system. "Learn the system, not just memorizing it," Richardson said. "Learning the whole concept of the system. There's a difference between having it memorized and feeling comfortable with the system. I'm going talk to a lot of veteran players, talk to Adrian (Peterson), talk to (LaDainian Tomlinson), talk to Emmitt Smith to make sure I'm the best I need to be next year."
Fri, 31 Jan 2014 11:58:31 -0800
Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener defended the trade that sent RB Trent Richardson to the team. "I still think it was a great trade for us," Fleener said. "Our front office has done an awesome job putting together teams from Day One. I think that acquisition is going to be huge for us and pay dividends in the future."
Fleener dismissed the idea that Richardson's play was a dissapointment.
"Let me stop you right there," he said. "I think part of it is you're coming into an offense that's probably one of the most complex in the NFL. And so for him to play a week after being there was impressive because it took me a year and a half to learn the offense. I think this camp will do him a lot of good, and then you guys can judge him after that."
Thu, 16 Jan 2014 13:33:31 -0800
The Indianapolis Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson don't regret trading for RB Trent Richardson this year and giving up a first-round pick to acquire him. "It was such a bold and aggressive move and so forth, but really from a football standpoint, we needed a starting running back," Grigson said. "Trent was made available ... I'm glad we have him for the long haul. It was very economically wise as a franchise to make the move given where we're going with the run game." Grigson remains committed to Richardson moving forward, even though RB Donald Brown took the starting job from him this year.
Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:01:59 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said RB Trent Richardson is still a part of the team's future even though he struggled this season. "He wants to be great. He's got all the talent, he's got all the ability. We would never have done what we did if we didn't believe that. We look for him to have a great offseason and have a great 2014 campaign."
Fantasy Tip: Richardson's fantasy value for next season is uncertain because it is not known what the team will do at the position during the offseason. It is not known if the team will re-sign Donald Brown or if Ahmad Bradshaw will be able to return from his neck injury.
Thu, 09 Jan 2014 09:23:23 -0800
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said the team won't hesitate to use RB Trent Richardson in the divisional round against the New England Patriots this weekend after Richardson fumbled the only carry he had in the team's win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild card game. "Trent actually did a great job of playing without the ball. His ability to take on those linebackers and handle all the different blitzes that we started to see, especially late in that game, was a big part of our success. No, I haven't lost any confidence in Trent at all. As a matter of fact, we're counting on Trent and Donald and even Tashard (Choice) because we only have a few backs to be ready to go out and play," Hamilton said.
Thu, 09 Jan 2014 09:10:26 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson feels like he needs to redeem himself after fumbling in the team's wild card game. "You feel like you've got to redeem yourself for it," Richardson said. "You feel like you've got to make a statement. ... That's one thing that my brother has always told me: the fastest way to get yourself on the bench is fumbling the ball. And that replays in my head every day when I come out to work."
Sun, 15 Dec 2013 19:27:57 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson posted a season-high and team-leading 64 rushing yards in the Week 15 game against the Houston Texans. He also had four receptions for 38 yards, including his first receiving touchdown of the season and just the second of his career.
Fri, 06 Dec 2013 23:54:10 -0800
Despite his recent struggles, the Indianapolis Colts have said they would look long-term with RB Trent Richardson instead of focusing on the negatives at the moment. "Wait until he has the rest of this season, wait until he has an off-season with us, goes through a training camp with us," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "We've just got to keep it real. It's not an easy thing for anybody, let alone Trent who came in with all the hype that comes from being the third overall pick. He won't make any excuses. And we won't make any excuses for him. But reality is reality. It's not an easy thing."
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 17:28:52 -0800
ESPN's Matt Williamson said he believes Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson is struggling because he is being tentative while running and does not seem to fully know the scheme yet. "Just looking at him, I think he's been tentative since he's been here. I feel like he's uncomfortable knowing when to hit the holes and what their scheme is. He's lost mentally. It doesn't mean he's not smart. I think he's not tuned in to exactly what they're doing. It's not natural for him, not knowing exactly where to go, thinking too much," Williamson said.
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 05:22:49 -0800
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne said RB Trent Richardson came to him after his demotion and said he never grasped the offense. "He came to me, he wasn't pouting or anything," Wayne said. "This was the next day after he found out he was demoted and he said, 'Now I can sit back and actually watch the way it's supposed to be done.' He kind of feels that he was maybe forced into it early without actually learning it."
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 07:05:53 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown played 49 of 65 offensive snaps in Week 13. RB Trent Richardson played just 13 snaps.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 18:04:50 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said Sunday, Dec. 1, that RB Trent Richardson was "awesome" and "a pro" about being demoted from the starting lineup for the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans in favor of RB Donald Brown. Richardson managed 19 yards on five carries.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 09:33:45 -0800
The Indianapolis Colts still believe in RB Trent Richardson but are starting RB Donald Brown because he has played well and they have playoff positioning to fight for.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 06:36:07 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson has been demoted on the depth chart, and RB Donald Brown has been named the team's starter.
Fantasy Tip: This news is not much of a surprise as Richardson has struggled of late. Brown should be considered a low-end RB1 moving forward.
Sat, 23 Nov 2013 09:38:43 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he expects RB Trent Richardson (calf) will be able to play in the team's Week 12 game.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013 12:25:35 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (calf) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 22, and is listed as questionable for Week 12.
Fantasy Tip: Richardson has not done much since joining the team and probably will be only a flex option if he is able to play this week.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013 08:20:30 -0800
The Indianapolis Colts do not plan to change their usage of their running backs, despite RB Trent Richardson's struggles and RB Donald Brown's success. "We don't plan on changing our rotation with our backs," offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said. "We've always been a running back by committee bunch, so we're going to continue to do that."
Thu, 21 Nov 2013 15:23:47 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (calf) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 21.
Fantasy Tip: We're assuming this injury is minor, even though he wasn't listed on the report yesterday. It's the last thing Richardson needs, though, to convince his owners that he's worth playing. At best, T-Rich has become an RB3 or flex.
Tue, 19 Nov 2013 09:28:52 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson said he doesn't think he's having that bad of a season since being traded to the Colts, despite averaging only 2.8 yards per carry. "I'm not frustrated at all because I think I've been playing good," Richardson said. "If you turn on the film, I don't have any missed assignments. I haven't had any missed reads. I've been playing good. Stuff just hasn't matched up like we thought it would when I'm in there. I think teams match up differently when I come in." Head coach Chuck Pagano also somewhat agrees that opposing defenses have sold out against the run when Richardson is on the field. RB Donald Brown remains the complementary back to Richardson, and he's stated his case for a bigger role on offense with his performances the past few weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Whichever way you want to look at it, Brown is gaining momentum and more touches out of the backfield, making Richardson more of a weak RB2 or flex play each week. However, he may retain some value in point-per-reception leagues if they continue to look to get him in space with short passes like they did in Week 11.
Sat, 16 Nov 2013 06:16:43 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he does not know what is going on with RB Trent Richardson's runs. "I don't know if he's snake bit, I don't know what the heck is going on," Pagano said. "We'll get it fixed. We'll get the holes there. He's making the right reads, he's doing all the right things, he knows what to do. He played great without the ball, protection-wise, those things. His numbers are going to come. I'm not concerned about that."
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 17:11:31 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said Friday, Nov. 15, that he still believes in RB Trent Richardson, and he said he could make the trade all over again with the Cleveland Browns to get Richardson. He added there is "absolutely" no buyer's remorse. "Richardson is making the right reads, hitting the right hole. His numbers will come. I'm not worried about that," Pagano said.
Fantasy Tip: While that might be true, there is picker's remorse for fantasy owners, as Richardson has done next to nothing this season, and now Donald Brown appears to have blown past him on the depth chart. Richardson is only worth using as an RB3 or flex fantasy play in leagues of 12 or more teams until he gets untracked.
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 17:09:34 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown appears to have seized control of the top spot on the depth chart ahead of RB Trent Richardson, and his performance in the Week 11 game against the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Nov. 14, delighted head coach Chuck Pagano. "Donald had an exceptional football game," Pagano said Friday, Nov. 15. "He is playing really well, running hard, hitting the hole, (gaining) yards after contact."
Fantasy Tip: Brown has emerged as a solid RB2 or flex fantasy option, blowing past Richardson, even if Pagano isn't ready to concede the job is Brown's.
Wed, 13 Nov 2013 11:15:30 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson allegedly has a sex tape that is being shopped around the internet. Richardson nor his representatives have commented on the origins or veracity of the rumored sex tape. He has just 88 rushes for 250 yards for a 2.8 yards per carry mark in his time with the Colts and has scored just two touchdowns on the year.
Fantasy Tip: This is the last thing Richardson needs in the midst of his down year and lack of production after being traded to Indianapolis. Perhaps it motivates him down the stretch?
Sun, 10 Nov 2013 06:23:10 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) will play in the team's Week 10 game.
Fantasy Tip: Even with Richardson in the lineup, be prepared for a heavy dose of Donald Brown. Richardson may be limited by the ankle injury he is dealing with.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 16:47:13 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) will be in the lineup for the Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams, and offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said Friday, Nov. 8, that he wants to figure out ways to get Richardson going. "I just have to find ways to creatively get the ball to Trent," Hamilton said Friday, Nov. 8. "A lot of different ways, not just out in space, but do a better job with run schemes that feature his instincts. But he's gotten better each week, and we expect that he'll continue to make big plays for us."
Fantasy Tip: Richardson has given his new team and fantasy owners next to nothing in terms of production, and now he is nicked up a little. It sounds like the team is trying to jump-start him, but he is only worth using as a flex fantasy option at this point.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 12:19:22 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 8, and is questionable for Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: Even with Richardson likely to play, Donald Brown will still likely get a lot of carries. There is a good chance Richardson will not be at full strength.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 08:28:40 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Nov. 8.
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 10:03:26 -0800
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) is expected to play in the team's Week 10 game, despite missing two straight days of practice.
Fantasy Tip: T-Rich's value has been down since coming to the Colts, and it's not inspiring that he hasn't practiced yet this week. Donald Brown figures to see plenty of work even if Richardson plays against the St. Louis Rams, and the matchup makes him a nice PPR sleeper. Consider Richardson a weak RB2 or decent RB3 this week.
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:41:02 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) was not participating in the portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Nov. 7.
Fantasy Tip: With Richardson appearing to miss practice for the second straight day, there is cause for concern. If he can't go, or is limited, Donald Brown would be the biggest beneficiary.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 13:49:41 -0800
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Fantasy Tip: Head coach Chuck Pagano did not mention anything being up with Richardson when he spoke to reporters, so that would point to the idea that nothing major is going on here. If Richardson is slowed at all, Donald Brown would be the main beneficiary.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 09:23:07 -0800
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said the team wants to continue to have RB Trent Richardson involved in the passing game moving forward.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 11:54:00 -0700
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) will take some time to decide whether to undergo surgery on his neck. "Ahmad has obviously seen several specialist, collected a lot of information," head coach Chuck Pagano said. "He's going to take the next couple of weeks to kind of sit back and decide where he's going to go with this thing. I don't know ultimately where that is. But in the end, it'll be up to Ahmad and the doctors to come to a final decision on what's going to transpire there. He'll be out at least a couple more weeks." RB Trent Richardson will continue as the starting running back, with RBs Donald Brown and Robert Hughes backing him up.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Bradshaw's chances of returning anytime soon, let alone this season. Dropping him for more valuable options at this time is probably the right course of action. Brown is worth stashing in deeper leagues as insurance for T-Rich.
