Athletics | Chris Bassitt set for Tommy John surgery

Thu, 05 May 2016 14:56:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt is safe to drop in all seasonal fantasy formats, and he isn't a priority is keeper/dynasty leagues, either. Tommy John returnees typically require 12 to 16 months of recovery and rehab to return to the majors.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt has torn UCL

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 12:31:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (elbow) has been diagnosed with a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament, according to manager Bob Melvin. He will visit Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati for a second opinion Thursday, May 5, and could wind up needing to undergo Tommy John surgery if the diagnosis is confirmed.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance that Bassitt may have thrown his final pitch of the 2016 season and he is not worth stashing in the majority of seasonal fantasy leagues. The 27-year-old right-hander went 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA in five starts this year, with 14 walks and 23 strikeouts over 28 innings.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt placed on disabled list

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:54:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt returned a 6.11 ERA and a 1.75 ERA through 28 innings over his five starts this season, and he is nothing more than a fringe own in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues and likely isn't worth stashing. Top-prospect Sean Manaea is starting Friday, and Jesse Hahn is starting Saturday, April 30, and the duo could push Bassitt out of the rotation even when he returns from the disabled list.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt says he's fine

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 14:56:27 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt said he's "fine" physically after manager Bob Melvin said the team might want him to get "checked out" due to a drop in velocity.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt has now had two poor outings in a row, and simply hasn't been as consistent as he was during his breakout in the latter half of last season. The difference in velocity really hasn't been that significant, but regardless, the right-hander should not be plugged into starting lineups right now with how he has looked as of late. If his struggles continue, he could ultimately be supplanted in the rotation by the returning Henderson Alvarez.

Athletics | Sonny Gray pushed to Wednesday

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 07:36:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) was pushed back to Wednesday, April 6, with SP Chris Bassitt taking the turn Tuesday, April 5, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt went 1-8 with a solid 3.56 ERA last season, and he's not a bad option for mixed league depth. Gray is worth consideration in DFS every time he starts.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt makes changes

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 13:56:55 -0800

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt, who is lined up to be the fifth starter, changed the way he's set up on the mound to avoid tipping his pitches. He's now more oriented toward first base and is working almost out of the stretch. "It makes my delivery a lot smoother, and I feel a lot more under control," Bassitt said.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt's 1-8 record didn't reflect on how he pitched last year. He's mediocre in the strikeout and control departments, though, and nothing really stands out about his arsenal, which makes him strictly AL-only material for now with a rotation spot locked up.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt starting Thursday

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 16:18:24 -0700

Updating a previous item, Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (shoulder) will return to make the start Thursday, Sept. 24, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Bassitt ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) hasn't started since late August and is facing a potent offensive club Thursday. There's no need to risk it with Bassitt on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt says he's ready

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:34:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (shoulder) said he's ready to pitch if the team needs him Thursday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Susan Slusser thinks there's a good chance Bassitt ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) does make the start against the Texas Rangers. Bassitt hasn't started a game since Aug. 26, so it'd be an unwise decision to run with him on FantasyScore Thursday against the first-place Rangers.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt hopes to return soon

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 15:22:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (shoulder) did not need to undergo an MRI exam, and he hopes to return soon after some rest and strengthening work.

Fantasy Tip: With Bassitt ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) unavailable Tuesday, Cody Martin is making the start. That could just be a simple spot start for Martin, though, if Bassitt can return to the rotation shortly. Bassitt has been a key addition to Oakland's rotation and has only allowed more than three earned runs once in 10 starts. It's probably best to be cautious and avoid him on FantasyScore in his first start back, but he deserves to be held onto in deeper mixed leagues as long as he returns for the final month.
