Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko to be utility player

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 08:57:11 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko is expected to be used as a super utility player with his new team, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Gyorko hit .247 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has plenty of power for a middle infielder, but he doesn't make enough contact to be a viable piece of a shallow mixed league roster. And now that he'll be serving a super utility role, he's even a little less appealing. However, he could provide decent power numbers in a middle infield spot in deep mixed or NL-only formats.

Cardinals | STL receiving cash with Gyorko

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 08:23:22 -0800

Updating an earlier report, St. Louis Cardinals SS/2B Jedd Gyorko is owed $35 million through the duration of his contract, and the Cardinals will take on $26 million of the sum, according to a source. The Padres received OF Jon Jay, who was owed $6.225 million and sent $9 million to St. Louis.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko figures to be a utility infielder unless the Cards trade an infielder. He has decent pop for a MI, and if he's able to net 400 at-bats, he'll be worth the late-round flyer or waiver grab.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko acquired by STL

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 07:37:12 -0800

San Diego Padres 2B/SS Jedd Gyorko was acquired by the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for OF Jon Jay Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko is likely ticketed for a part-time role with the Cards' infield set. The Cards said they want to spell Jhonny Peralta more at shortstop, and this could be one way. Gyorko should carve out enough at-bats to hit some home runs and potentially be worth a late-round flyer.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko nearing deal to Cards

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 07:28:59 -0800

San Diego Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko is close to being acquired by the St. Louis Cardinals, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko struggled at his spacious home ballpark with a .232-9-30 split as opposed to a .262-7-27 split on the road. At this point, we know he's a low-contact middle infielder with plus power, but with Matt Carpenter, Jhonny Peralta and Kolten Wong settled in the infield, Gyorko could be headed for a part-time role.

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 15:19:48 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Against the tough lefty Bumgarner, both Gyorko ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) and Barmes ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) are players to avoid on FantasyScore in a pitcher-friendly environment.

Padres | Jedd Gyorko leaves the yard

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 07:07:47 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during the Padres' 10-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies Saturday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is having a respectable second half in the power departments with 12 home runs and 38 RBI through 57 games since the All-Star break. He is strong FantasyScore play again Sunday, Sept. 20, and owners in mixed leagues chasing home runs and RBI could do worse than Gyorko.

Padres | Cory Spangenberg playing second base

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 11:46:53 -0700

San Diego Padres INF Cory Spangenberg will bat seventh and play second base against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brett Anderson Sunday, Sept. 6. INF Jedd Gyorko, who played second base Saturday, Sept. 5, will play shortstop and bat second Sunday, with SS Clint Barmes receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Spangenberg ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is batting .304 with three doubles and a triple over the past week and merits consideration as a value play in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Padres | Cory Spangenberg sitting out

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 13:09:19 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start at second base, while SS Clint Barmes will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Spangenberg ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should return to the lineup in the near future. Barmes ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting only .161 this month and should be avoided by owners on FantasyScore.
