Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko homers in both ends of DH

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 20:32:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko hit home runs in each end of the doubleheader Tuesday, July 26, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has turned it up in the power category, posting seven of his 14 homers in the past nine games while posting 11 RBIs. After a quiet start to the season Gyorko is making up for lost time in the month of July, re-emerging as a must-start in all NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

Cardinals | St. Louis resting three players

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 17:01:22 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty, 1B Matt Adams and C Yadier Molina are not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets Tuesday, July 26. 1B Jedd Gyorko will start at first base, while 3B Greg Garcia will start at third base and is batting first against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon. OF Randal Grichuk will start in right field, while OF Tommy Pham will start in center field and is batting fifth. C Alberto Rosario will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Pham may be the most attractive option among the three new players in the starting lineup, but none of the players should be considered in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko hitting fifth

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 14:24:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Jedd Gyorko is hitting fifth Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has a .435-5-8 line the last week, and he's a good, low-end option against Kenta Maeda.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko stays red hot

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 22:57:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko was 2-for-5 with a game-tying solo home run off Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday, July 22. The Cardinals would go on to win, 4-3, in 16 innings.

Fantasy Tip: In his last 10 games, Gyorko is 14-for-35 (.400) with five HRs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored. That stretch has moved his season average up 30 points, and Gyorko is suddenly a viable option in deeper mixed leagues -- at least until Matt Carpenter or Jhonny Peralta return from injury.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko leading off vs. San Diego

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:40:27 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at third base and leading off against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Thursday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Given his lack of a full-time role, Gyorko has been a sneaky fantasy contributor with 26 runs, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and a .265/.321/.488 slash line. He'll see a string of starts going forward with both Jhonny Peralta (thumb) and Matt Carpenter (oblique) on the disabled list, so view him as a viable option in deep seasonal leagues.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko homers twice in nightcap

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 21:51:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, July 20. He'd homered in Game 1 of the doubleheader as well.

Fantasy Tip: In three games against his former club, Gyorko was 7-for-10 with four home runs and six RBI. He's seeing extended time with Jhonny Peralta out of action and could have some appeal in deep mixed leagues and DFS.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko continues hot July

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 17:28:02 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-3 with his ninth home run of the season Wednesday, July 20, versus the San Diego Padres. He finished with two RBI and a run scored in the ballgame.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has been on a tear in July, now hitting 11-for-30 (.367) for the month with a couple of homers and six RBI. While he currently carries a .253/.311/.446 line for the season, Gyorko is showing signs of breaking out, and will have every chance to do so with Jhonny Peralta landing back on the disabled list. Keep him on your radar in case this continues.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta to DL

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 13:49:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Jhonny Peralta (thumb) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with more discomfort in his surgically-repaired left thumb. He had hit .221 since coming off the DL on June 7. 2B Jedd Gyorko is in the lineup at third base Tuesday, July 19, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Look for Gyorko to get more at-bats at this position, along with SS Greg Garcia. Gyorko (.252-8-22) has been warming up at the plate as of late and has solid fantasy value in DFS and deeper NL and mixed formats. Garcia (.321-2-10) only has four hits in his last seven games and a lower fantasy value than Gyorko.
