Rays | First shutout for Matt Andriese

Sat, 14 May 2016 19:06:58 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese tossed his first career shutout, allowing two hits and striking out five in a 6-0 win over the Oakland Athletics Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese has allowed one run and six hits combined in 16 innings in two starts this year, and he should stick in the rotation as long as he keeps pitching well. Grab him in deeper mixed and AL-only formats while you can.

Rays | Matt Andriese to stick in rotation

Mon, 09 May 2016 20:12:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese will remain in the rotation, as manager Kevin Cash said Monday, May 9, the plan is to keep him in the mix. They will decide soon whether they want to stay in order or where to drop him in.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese was solid in his debut, and he should be grabbed in AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats. He is also a strong mid-tier DFS play if he can continue to pitch well.

Rays | Matt Andriese solid in debut

Sun, 08 May 2016 17:59:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese made his season debut Sunday, May 8, allowing one run on four hits while walking three and striking out three in a win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Andriese's outing will earn him any more starts, and there is no need to rush out to pick him up just yet.

Rays | Matt Andriese to pitch Sunday

Fri, 06 May 2016 17:10:39 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese will start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese went 3-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 25 games (eight starts) for the Rays during his rookie season last year and will be making his first MLB appearance of 2016 on Sunday. The 26-year-old right-hander is receiving the starting nod because SP Matt Moore was pushed back in the rotation one day due to the Angels' success this year against left-handed pitching. Andriese should be viewed as a risky play in all formats Sunday.

Rays | Matt Moore may be skipped

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his start skipped Sunday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels hit left-handers much better than right-handers. SP Matt Andriese or SP Erasmo Ramirez could make the start Sunday. If Moore makes the start, SP Blake Snell could come up to start Monday, May 9, or Tuesday, May 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, and he has 37 K's in 36 1/3 innings. So he's really feast or famine right now, but he's a low-end consideration. Snell is the team's top pitching prospect and is worth the speculative waiver claim and stash.

Rays | Matt Andriese may start Saturday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 09:24:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese might start for SP Erasmo Ramirez Saturday, April 23, against the New York Yankees. Ramirez pitching in relief on Thursday, April 21, caused the change.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese is an interesting pitcher to stream because he's proven he can be a big league starter. In fact, if he were on some other teams, he'd probably be on the major league pitching staff. Alas, he's just rotation depth in Tampa, but will have an opportunity on tap. The problem is, it's coming on the road at Yankee Stadium against an overdue offense. Owners can lay off him for this particular assignment, but he's someone to watch if a spot were to open up.

Rays | Matt Moore, Matt Andriese pitching Tuesday

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 16:27:58 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SPs Matt Moore and Matt Andriese will pitch in the doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, July 7. Moore will pitch in the first game and Andriese will go in Game 2.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is once again a risky pitcher on FantasyScore tomorrow against the Royals, a team that strikes out rarely. Moore allowed four earned runs and walked two in 4 2/3 innings in his first start of the season last week. Andriese won't be available to use in the second game.

Rays | Matt Andriese optioned

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 10:50:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese was optioned to the minors Sunday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: With Matt Moore's return looming later this week, Andriese's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) rotation spot was expendable. Moore, coming back from Tommy John surgery, can definitely help fantasy owners in all formats, and he should be added immediately if he's still available.

Rays | Matt Andriese called up to start

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 05:12:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese was recalled from Class AAA Durham to start Friday, June 12, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese pitched in long relief earlier this season and picked up a couple of three-plus-inning saves. He didn't miss a lot of bats and had a 4.79 ERA in the bullpen. Give him a start or two before considering him on FantasyScore.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi scratched Saturday

Sat, 09 May 2015 07:50:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi (illness) will not make his scheduled start Saturday, May 9, because of an illness. The team will recall P Matt Andriese from Triple-A Durham to make the start.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has been pitching well this season and has a good chance to make his next scheduled start, but owners should monitor the situation. Andriese is probably not a great option to use in any league.
