Angels | Hector Santiago continues dominance over Texas

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 16:14:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago gave up just one run and four hits while striking out five and walking two in seven innings to beat the Texas Rangers Wednesday, April 15. He improved to 4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in five career starts at Texas.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) looked sharp against a Rangers team that is scuffling at the plate to begin the season, and injuries to their pitching staff haven't helped matters. They haven't had a consistent lineup, either, so any starter going up against the Rangers, even in Texas, should be attractive to FantasyScore users.

Angels | Garrett Richards to debut Sunday?

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 15:32:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) is scheduled to make his season debut against the Houston Astros Sunday, April 19, if everything goes well with his final rehab start for Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, April 14. That would push SP Matt Shoemaker to six days of rest for Monday, April 20, and SP Hector Santiago to five days of rest for Tuesday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) looked good all spring and hasn't had any setbacks after having surgery on his knee last year. Despite making his first start Sunday, Richards will be attractive to FantasyScore users against an Astros squad that strikes out in bunches and hasn't gotten it going offensively in 2015 yet.

Angels | Jered Weaver targeted for opener

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 16:00:47 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver is being targeted by the team to start opening day against the Seattle Mariners Monday, April 6. The rest of the rotation is expected to be SPs C.J. Wilson, Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiago, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) has been the team's expected opening day starter all along, so this shouldn't come as a big surprise. The Mariners should be even better offensively in 2015 with notable offseason acquisitions, but Weaver should be an acceptable FantasyScore pitching play on opening day.

Angels | Halos could use four-man rotation

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 11:37:25 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are expected to begin the regular season with a four-man starting rotation and an eight-man bullpen, according to manager Mike Scioscia. SPs Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiago are expected to start the first four games of the season. The Angels will not need a fifth starter until April 14, but injured SP Garrett Richards (knee) is unlikely to be available by then.

Fantasy Tip: This means that SPs Andrew Heaney and Nick Tropeano will likely begin the year in the minors but one of them could be recalled to make the start April 14. Neither pitcher has much value in universal leagues, although Heaney has the bigger upside and could be worthy of consideration in the later rounds of AL-only drafts.

Angels | Hector Santiago to stick in rotation

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:01:58 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago was expected to be bumped to the bullpen or Triple-A Salt Lake when SP C.J. Wilson (ankle) returns Saturday, Aug. 2. However, Santiago will remain in the rotation with SP Tyler Skaggs (forearm) hitting the 15-day disabled list Friday, Aug. 1.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs likely headed to DL

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 07:25:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (forearm) is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a left forearm strain. "The doctor said the UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) is fine," Skaggs said "At the moment, it's not looking bad. I have full range of motion, and the tests went well. We'll see tomorrow, though. It's not feeling too bad right now."

Fantasy Tip: Hector Santiago would take his spot in the rotation. He has depth value in AL-only leagues.
