Angels | Dodgers beat around Hector Santiago

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 05:33:52 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed five earned runs on nine hits and a walk during the Angels' 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: There has been a lot more good than bad for Santiago ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) this season, but he has now allowed nine runs -- eight earned -- over his past two starts, which is the same amount as he allowed through his previous seven outings. Fantasy owners shouldn't make any hasty moves or jump to conclusions, but it wouldn't be out of the question to see Santiago regress slightly through the end of the year.

Angels | Hector Santiago matches career high

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 18:08:08 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago matched a career high with 10 strikeouts Monday, July 20, in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) went five innings, giving up eight hits, one run and one walk. It was Santiago's shortest outing since June 17, but it was his fifth straight allowing one run or fewer. Santiago's 4.31 xFIP will start to shine through eventually, but it's tough to not continue using him in GPP tournaments.

Angels | Hector Santiago added to All-Star team

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 13:42:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago has been named to the American League All-Star team to replace Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray, who is ineligible to pitch because he started against the Cleveland Indians Sunday, July 12.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($6,900, 13.8% of cap), who entered spring training hoping to compete for the No. 5 spot in the Halos' starting rotation, finds himself headed to the Midsummer Classic in Cincinnati. He is 6-4 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through 18 games this season.

Angels | Hector Santiago stingy again

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 05:49:00 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago struck out seven batters while allowing a single run on eight hits over seven innings to record his sixth win of the season during the Angel's 7-3 win over the Seattle Mariners Friday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: The lefty has been gold this season for the Angels and fantasy owners. Santiago ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) owns a 2.33 ERA, 3.90 FIP, 1.10 WHIP and 8.1 K/9 for the season. While the FIP suggests there could be rougher times ahead, he has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 15 of 17 starts this season and two or less in 12 of those outings. Santiago should be owned in all seasonal formats, and he is a nice No. 2 arm target for FantasyScore players in the majority of matchups.

Angels | Hector Santiago dominates Rangers

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 05:17:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago improved to 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA in six career starts versus the Texas Rangers Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has allowed one or zero runs in each of his last three starts. While Santiago's strikeout rate isn't overly impressive, he's allowed more than three runs in just two starts this season. Santiago will be worth FantasyScore consideration when he takes the mound Friday, July 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Angels | Hector Santiago posts another solid start

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 06:37:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed two solo home runs through 5 2/3 innings while striking out six during the Angels' 5-4 win over the Oakland Ahtletics Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 of 13 starts this season, and he owns a 2.59 ERA, a 1.18 WHP and a 8.1 K/9. However, his 4.29 FIP suggests there could be rockier times ahead. Still, he is pitching well this year and stands as a nice end-of-the-rotation option in mixed leagues, and against weak offenses, don't rule him out of FantasyScore consideration.

Angels | Hector Santiago good against A's

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 10:04:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago, who gave up just one run while striking out eight in six innings against the Oakland Athletics April 21, is 3-2 with a 1.91 ERA in 32 2/3 innings over eight career appearances (six starts) against Oakland. Santiago faces the A's again Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is due for some correction to his ERA eventually, but it's hard to imagine it coming tonight against the A's, who have really struggled against left-handed pitching this year (.635 OPS, ranked 27th in the majors). Santiago should also benefit from having nine days off between his last start.

Angels | Matt Shoemaker starting Tuesday

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 14:33:02 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker will make the start Tuesday, June 9, with SP Hector Santiago being pushed back to Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Shoemaker ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will return to the rotation to face the Tampa Bay Rays next week. It's a nice matchup for him on FantasyScore, since the Rays are ranked 24th in baseball with a .675 OPS against right-handed pitchers and have struggled to score runs all year. The Oakland A's present a solid matchup for Santiago next Friday, as well.

Angels | Hector Santiago has another tidy outing

Sat, 30 May 2015 05:05:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts against the Detroit Tigers Friday, May 29. Manager Mike Scioscia was impressed, "That a great outing to pitch that deep against that lineup, with all the tough right-handed hitters they have."

Fantasy Tip: Currently sporting a measly 2.18 ERA, Santiago ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) might be in the beginning stages of a breakout campaign. He has a 1.17 WHIP and a 8.3 K/9, too. Seasonal owners will want to note his 3.84 FIP before cranking up their expectations too high, though. Still, those in need of a pitching boost could take a speculative leap of faith on Santiago.

Angels | Heavy workload for Hector Santiago

Sun, 24 May 2015 19:38:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago threw a career-high 124 pitches in a 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox Sunday, May 24. He allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has allowed one earned run or less in six of his nine starts this season and has allowed more than three runs only once. However, he threw a ton of pitches Sunday, and you may want to avoid him in his next start to make sure he doesn't have any arm fatigue.
