Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar extends hitting streak

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 13:47:58 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar went 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to seven games Sunday, July 10, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for his current and prospective owners, Pillar has only one RBI and no homers or steals during his recent hot streak. While his .268 average, seven home runs, 35 RBI and 38 runs scored are all on about the same pace of last year's breakout season, he only has seven stolen bases versus the 25 he recorded in 2015. Since speed was his most attractive asset at fantasy draft time, he's been a bit of a disappointment. He's no more than a fourth or fifth outfielder in most leagues at the moment.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar, Devon Travis resting

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 08:33:10 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar and 2B Devon Travis are not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Sunday, July 3. OF Ezequiel Carrera will bat leadoff and play center field, with OF Junior Lake batting seventh and playing right field and INF Darwin Barney batting ninth and starting at second base. In addition, 1B Justin Smoak is back in the lineup, batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak is batting just .150 with two solo home runs in 60 at-bats since June 1, and should be avoided in all formats. Carrera is just 4-for-24 at the plate over the past week and 1-for-12 versus Cleveland pitching this year, so he is also not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon. Lake and Barney have hit well in limited action recently and could be worth taking a gamble on as inexpensive fliers in DFS.

Blue Jays | Three-hit effort for Kevin Pilar

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 01:49:46 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar went 3-for-6 with a two-run double and scored twice against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Like most of the rest of the Blue Jays, Pillar is heating up in June. Since June 7, the 27-year-old is batting .333 with five home runs and 15 RBI. His six steals are disappointing after 25 a season ago, but his owners should be able to appreciate the fact he is putting up very solid power numbers lately despite batting at the bottom of the order. Ride this surge as long as possible.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar homers twice Thursday

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 19:44:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI versus the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar is 19-for-60 (.317) at the plate this month with five home runs and 10 RBI and should be viewed as a viable outfield option in all fantasy formats.

Blue Jays | Three Blue Jays take a seat

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 08:15:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin, OF Michael Saunders and 2B Devon Travis are out of the lineup Wednesday, June 8. OF Kevin Pillar moved up to hit fifth, OF Ezequiel Carrera is hitting sixth, SS Ryan Goins hits eighth and C Josh Thole is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar has pedestrian numbers, but he has the most daily appeal behind Joey Bats, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion and Justin Smoak. Give Pillar a low-end look. Carrera has some fringe basement appeal as well. Pass on Goins and Thole against Jordan Zimmermann.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar shows signs of life

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:06:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, walk and two runs scored Tuesday, June 7, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar is hitting just .240 on the season, but he has managed three RBIs over the past seven games. He is slowly starting to pick up the pace after slumping since mid-May. Right now he can only be trusted in AL-only fantasy play.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar sitting vs. Twins

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:12:45 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. OF Ezequiel Carrera is starting in center field and batting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar is a viable starter in deep leagues, but he is currently reeling along an 0-for-17 stretch, so a night off might help him return to form. In his previous 26 games since being demoted down the lineup, Pillar returned 10 runs, two home runs, 12 RBI, three stolen bases and a .323/.352/.485 slash line. There's upside, but expect the peaks and valleys to continue. Carrera is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Friday, as he has started the season 16-for-45 (.356 batting average) at the dish.
