Red Sox | Mookie Betts, David Ortiz resting Sunday

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:39:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts (knee) and DH David Ortiz are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Sunday, July 24. 1B Hanley Ramirez will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter, with INF Travis Shaw batting seventh and playing first base and OF Bryce Brentz playing left field and batting eighth. In addition, C Ryan Hanigan will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw is just 2-for-17 (.118) over the past seven days, while Hanigan is 2-for-12 (.167) during the month of July. Both players should be avoided in all fantasy formats. Brentz is batting .308 versus southpaws this season and is worthy of consideration as a value play in DFS.

Red Sox | Brock Holt leading off

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 13:49:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt is leading off Saturday, July 23, and 3B Travis Shaw is sitting out. 3B Aaron Hill is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Holt is hitting .333 this month, and he has a good matchup against Ricky Nolasco. Hill is hitting .306 this month, and both are solid low-end options.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw, Brock Holt out

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 09:24:14 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Travis Shaw and OF Brock Holt are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Saturday, July 16. 3B Aaron Hill will start at third base and is batting seventh. OF Bryce Brentz will start in left field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Hill has at least one hit in six of his last seven games and six RBI during that span. He should be an attractive option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. He is hitting .294 with four RBI this month and could also be used in daily leagues.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt out Saturday

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:21:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt (knee) are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Saturday, July 9. INF Travis Shaw will bat sixth and play first base and OF Bryce Brentz will bat seventh and start in left field. In addition, INF Aaron Hill is starting at the hot corner for the second consecutive game and C Sandy Leon is making his fifth start behind the plate in the last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw is batting .350 with four doubles, a home run and four RBI through 20 at-bats this month and is 5-for-10 in his career versus Moore with a double, home run and three RBI. Brentz is batting .375 with a home run and seven RBI through 32 at-bats and is 5-for-10 at the plate over the past week. Both players should be viewed as value plays in daily fantasy games.

Red Sox | John Farrell discusses playing time

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:51:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3Bs Travis Shaw and Aaron Hill will not be in a strict platoon, and Shaw could spell 1B Hanley Ramirez at first base on occasion, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: This should help ease some of the potential losses in playing time for Shaw, and given Ramirez's health track record, the odd game off shouldn't be viewed too negatively, either. Hill projects to grab a couple starts a week, and he's nothing more than a cavernous mixed and AL-only option. The other two are worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw available to pinch hit

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:40:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Travis Shaw (foot) is available to pinch hit during the game against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, July 8, and could return to the starting lineup Saturday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Dating back to Wednesday, June 1, Shaw has a mediocre .240/.296/.385 slash line with just 12 runs, two home runs and 13 RBI, so his fantasy value appears to be dwindling. Add Aaron Hill to the fold now, and there could be fewer at-bats for Shaw going forward. He is still a solid option in deep mixed leagues, though.

Red Sox | Aaron Hill debuting with Sox vs. Tampa

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 12:08:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Aaron Hill is starting at third base and batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Friday, July 8. 3B Travis Shaw (foot) is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Hill projects to face left-handed pitchers in a platoon with Shaw at third base, so the upside of each hitter is capped slightly because of the expected timeshare. Hill should be owned in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he's likely best viewed as a daily option in favorable matchups.

Red Sox | Aaron Hill to platoon at hot corner?

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 17:50:47 -0700

Boston Red Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski hinted that INF Aaron Hill could see playing time at third base versus left-handed pitching, due to 3B Travis Shaw's struggles against southpaws.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw is batting .274 overall through 83 games but he is hitting just .211 against lefties this year. Hill has also fared better versus righties this season but he has a respectable .263 average off southpaws. He should be rostered in all AL-only fantasy leagues, although he's unlikely to see as much playing time as he received in Milwaukee.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw day to day

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 09:13:21 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Travis Shaw (foot) is day to day after X-rays on his left foot were negative.

Fantasy Tip: The Sox could put Brock Holt at third for a couple of days to keep Bryce Brentz in the lineup as he's hitting .333. Marco Hernandez is another option, and he's hitting .295. Either way, Hernandez and Brentz are AL-only depth options and potential DFS matchup plays.
