Red Sox | Travis Shaw to work at 3B

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 13:19:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw will play at third base in winter ball this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw saw time at first base this season but it appears the team wants to move him to another position. It is not known if he will receive an everyday job next season but could be an option on AL-only leagues if he sees a decent amount of playing time.

Red Sox | David Ortiz sits out

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 14:22:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with 1B Travis Shaw hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has the daunting task of Corey Kluber in front of him. He connected on a homer in two at-bats against him, but he has a .233-2-6 line the last week. He's an all-or-nothing play on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval scratched from lineup

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:57:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (back) was scratched from the lineup Friday, Sept. 4, due to "back tightness." 1B Travis Shaw will take his place at third base and hit fifth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) surprisingly is hitting a cool .297 (11-for-37) in a small sample size against lefties this year. Morgan isn't an imposing lefty, so Shaw could deliver again against a southpaw tonight as a sleeper option on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw reeling at the plate

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 15:30:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw is 2-for-29 with 11 strikeouts over his past nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) kicked off August with 15 runs, four doubles, six home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.267 OPS through his first 16 games of the month. However, his opponents clearly have a better game plan to attack him with, and Shaw hasn't responded. There is no guarantee he turns it around at the dish, either. He can be avoided in all formats at this point.

Red Sox | David Ortiz starting at first base

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 07:34:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is playing first base and batting fourth against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard Sunday, Aug. 30. 1B Travis Shaw is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Without a designated hitter option in the road series at New York, the Red Sox have swapped in Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) at first base for two games. The veteran slugger has been on fire in August and owns a .345/.427/.679 slash line with seven home runs. In fact, Ortiz currently has exactly seven home runs in each of the past three months after hitting just six through April and May. He is a risky FantasyScore play Sunday, though. Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will return to regular at-bats next week, and he is worth a look in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | David Ortiz not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:39:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Saturday, Aug. 29. INF Travis Shaw will bat fifth and start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: With the Red Sox playing an interleague game in a National League stadium, Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) finds himself riding the pine Saturday. After a hot start to the month of August, Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is just 2-for-23 over the past week and shouldn't be used in FantasyScore cleanup.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw sitting against the Mets

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:15:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 28. 1B David Ortiz is playing first base and batting fourth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Without the option to utilize a designated hitter, Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is playing first base. The veteran has 14 runs, six home runs and 18 RBI with a .325/.414/.625 slash line through 22 games and August. He is a viable option at FantasyScore Friday, but Harvey ($9,400, 18.6% of cap) presents a tough matchup. Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been great for Boston and fantasy owners this month. He is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues at this point. And while he is slowing down of late, he does have seven home runs in August.

Red Sox | Four-hit game for Travis Shaw

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 22:22:30 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the game Tuesday, Aug. 18, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has emerged as a must-start FantasyScore option at a low price, posting two or more hits in four of his past five games.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw out of starting lineup Tuesday

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 12:51:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 11, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is out because David Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has to play first base. The game is against the Marlins at a National League park, so there is no designated hitter.

Red Sox | Mike Napoli scratched

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 16:09:05 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli was scratched from the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 7, for undisclosed reasons. 1B Travis Shaw moves to first base and 3B Pablo Sandoval enters the lineup after originally being out.

Fantasy Tip: We don't recommend starting Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) against a left-hander tonight, as he's hitting only .200 (21-for-105) with none of his nine home runs against southpaws in 2015.
