Rays | Matt Moore may be skipped

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his start skipped Sunday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels hit left-handers much better than right-handers. SP Matt Andriese or SP Erasmo Ramirez could make the start Sunday. If Moore makes the start, SP Blake Snell could come up to start Monday, May 9, or Tuesday, May 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, and he has 37 K's in 36 1/3 innings. So he's really feast or famine right now, but he's a low-end consideration. Snell is the team's top pitching prospect and is worth the speculative waiver claim and stash.

Rays | One-and-done start for Blake Snell

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:19:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell will return to Class AAA Durham after his start against the New York Yankees Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Snell remains a stash candidate in deep mixed and AL-only formats, but for now, this news makes him nothing more than a streaming target in the majority of seasonal leagues. He is also a viable option in daily contests Saturday. Snell returned a 1.41 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and a 10.9 K/9 over three minor league stops in 2015 to legitimize his standing as a high-end prospect.

Rays | Blake Snell coming up for Tampa

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 11:39:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell is being called up from the minors to start against the New York Yankees Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Snell, a lefty, is Tampa's top pitching prospect after a remarkable year in three minor league stops in 2015 (15-4, 1.41 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 10.9 K/9). He should've already been stashed in dynasty and AL-only leagues, but he'll immediately interest those in mixed formats as well. The tall, lean pitcher has an electric fastball with sinking motion and nice secondary offerings. Against the struggling Yanks lineup tomorrow, Snell could succeed immediately, so it wouldn't be outlandish to throw him into your lineup immediately. He'll be taking swing man Erasmo Ramirez's turn tomorrow and could bump the righty to a permanent long-relief role if he pitches well.

Rays | Blake Snell sent down

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 09:20:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell was sent to the minors Tuesday, March 15.

Fantasy Tip: Snell is the top arm in Tampa's farm system and the No. 14 overall prospect in baseball this year. He was dominant in three minor league stops last year (15-4, 1.41 ERA, 10.9 K/9) and has exceptional velocity and the ability to mix his offspeed stuff well. He's a future top-of-the-rotation starter that should be firmly on the radar of keeper/dynasty owners this year. Snell could reach the majors later this season.

Rays | Blake Snell impressing in camp

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 14:32:14 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell has impressed manager Kevin Cash in camp the first couple weeks. "He just looks like a 12-year-old throwing 98 miles per hour out there," Cash said. "Locating all of his pitches. He's a lot to be excited about."

Fantasy Tip: Snell went 15-4 overall with 163 strikeouts in 25 games. Fantasy owners will salivate at numbers like this. He may not join the club until midseason, but pick him up if you have a chance.

Rays | Blake Snell talking long-term deal

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 08:12:04 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell has had preliminary talks with the club about a long-term deal. However, a deal doesn't appear to be close.

Fantasy Tip: Snell went 15-4 with a 1.41 ERA in three levels of the minors last season. He had 163 K's in 134 innings, which means he could be in line to throw about 160 innings this season. He'd be an SP4 with some upside if he makes it to the majors in the first six weeks.

Rays | Blake Snell could reach majors this year

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 09:38:17 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell is expected to open the 2016 season at Class AAA Durham but could be called up after spending the minimum 20 days in the minors in order to delay his free agency clock.

Fantasy Tip: Snell, who is one of the organization's top prospects, went 15-4 with a 1.41 ERA while pitching at three different minor league levels in 2015, with 163 strikeouts over 134 innings. The 23-year-old left-hander could be promoted if a starter gets injured or if the Rays decide that a veteran like Erasmo Ramirez would be more useful in the bullpen. However, his innings will be monitored in 2016. Owners in AL-only, cavernous mixed and dynasty fantasy formats should have Snell on their radar.
