Rays | Blake Snell shuts down Rockies

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:52:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell gave up just one hit over six shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, July 19. The rookie walked three and struck out a career-high nine.

Fantasy Tip: Snell looked every bit a top prospect Tuesday night at Coors Field, completely shutting down a potent Rockies lineup en route to his second major-league victory. The sky is the limit for the lanky southpaw, and while he's a long shot to offer enough in standard leagues he's worth taking a chance on in deeper mixed formats.

Rays | Blake Snell facing Rockies Tuesday

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 12:22:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell is scheduled to make a road start against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Snell owns a 3.69 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 through his first six career starts and is a promising young hurler. However, taking the mound at Coors Field means he should be avoided in all fantasy formats Tuesday. Snell is still worth owning in deep seasonal formats.

Rays | Blake Snell solid in defeat

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 14:14:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell pitched a good game despite losing his start Thursday, July 7, versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The southpaw went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He also struck out seven and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: Snell arrived with a good amount of hype, and while he's been a mixed bag six starts into his major league journey, the flashes have certainly been there. This was one of his stronger efforts, as he was able to pick up his second quality start. While he's had some inconsistency thus far, today's outing certainly sends him into the All-Star break on a high note. He'll be someone to watch in the second half.

Rays | Blake Snell earns first MLB win

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 21:09:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell allowed four runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings Monday, June 27, against the Boston Red Sox to pick up his first-career major league victory.

Fantasy Tip: Snell has managed a 3.54 ERA in four starts. He has struggled allowing walks, giving up 10 free passes over 15 1/3 innings in three June outings. He remains a useful fantasy option in AL-only leagues, but mixed leaguers will want to take a pass on him for now.

Rays | Blake Snell struggles versus Seattle

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 19:20:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell (0-1) allowed five runs (one earned) on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, June 16, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite his struggles, manager Kevin Cash announced that Snell would receive another start next week versus the Cleveland Indians. Although the 23-year-old lefty possesses electric stuff, fantasy owners should temper their expectations since he only has two MLB games under his belt.

Rays | Blake Snell to stay in rotation

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:38:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell will remain in the starting rotation, so he is expected to make his next start against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, June 21, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Snell is a promising young left-hander for the Rays, but his second major league start Thursday afternoon was forgettable. He allowed eight hits and five runs (one earned) in just 3 1/3 innings while walking three and striking out three against the Mariners. Snell's ERA sits at a respectable 2.16 ERA after two starts, but he'll have his ups and downs in his rookie year. Expect him to be more of a matchup play in deep mixed leagues for the foreseeable future, but his upside makes him rosterable in just about all formats.

Rays | Blake Snell tapped to start Thursday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 13:21:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell will be recalled from the minors for a start Thursday, June 16. SP Matt Andriese has been sent to the bullpen in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: From the sounds of this, Snell is up for the long haul. Andriese has been a decent starter so this move to the bullpen comes as a minor surprise. Pick up Snell in deeper leagues, and if you can stash Andriese on your bench go ahead and do it. There's a good chance Andriese may get another rotation chance.

Rays | Matt Moore may be skipped

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his start skipped Sunday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels hit left-handers much better than right-handers. SP Matt Andriese or SP Erasmo Ramirez could make the start Sunday. If Moore makes the start, SP Blake Snell could come up to start Monday, May 9, or Tuesday, May 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, and he has 37 K's in 36 1/3 innings. So he's really feast or famine right now, but he's a low-end consideration. Snell is the team's top pitching prospect and is worth the speculative waiver claim and stash.

Rays | One-and-done start for Blake Snell

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:19:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell will return to Class AAA Durham after his start against the New York Yankees Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Snell remains a stash candidate in deep mixed and AL-only formats, but for now, this news makes him nothing more than a streaming target in the majority of seasonal leagues. He is also a viable option in daily contests Saturday. Snell returned a 1.41 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and a 10.9 K/9 over three minor league stops in 2015 to legitimize his standing as a high-end prospect.

Rays | Blake Snell coming up for Tampa

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 11:39:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell is being called up from the minors to start against the New York Yankees Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Snell, a lefty, is Tampa's top pitching prospect after a remarkable year in three minor league stops in 2015 (15-4, 1.41 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 10.9 K/9). He should've already been stashed in dynasty and AL-only leagues, but he'll immediately interest those in mixed formats as well. The tall, lean pitcher has an electric fastball with sinking motion and nice secondary offerings. Against the struggling Yanks lineup tomorrow, Snell could succeed immediately, so it wouldn't be outlandish to throw him into your lineup immediately. He'll be taking swing man Erasmo Ramirez's turn tomorrow and could bump the righty to a permanent long-relief role if he pitches well.
