The San Diego Padres optioned SP Jesse Hahn to Triple-A El Paso and recalled INF Jace Peterson.
Fantasy Tip: This was likely only done because of the All-Star break. Hahn has been lights out in his most recent stint with the Friars and should be back after the break. If someone flinches at the move and dumps him, pounce on him.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (back, leg) revealed that he has been bothered by back and leg pain for the last month caused by a herniated disc. He is optimistic that he can return to the lineup in a few days but said no concrete timetable exists for treatment.
Fantasy Tip: INFs Alexi Amarista and Jace Peterson will split time between second base and third base until Headley returns to action. Cs Yasmani Grandal and Rene Rivera are emergency options for playing the hot corner. None of these players make appealing fantasy options, with the possible exception of deep NL-only leagues.

The San Diego Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko (foot) on the 15-day disabled list with left foot plantar fasciitis Friday, June 6, and removed SP Eric Stults from the bereavement list in a corresponding move. Gyorko's DL stint is retroactive to June 4.
Fantasy Tip: Well then. This isn't an unsurprising move, but the fact that Gyorko has been this dreadful this year has. Plantar fasciitis is a very tricky injury, and one that can disable a player for much of the year. See Albert Pujols in 2013. Jace Peterson now has an open window to seize valuable everyday playing time at second base. He can help tremendously with his speed and on-base abilities in NL-only and deep mixed universes.

San Diego Padres INF Jace Peterson made the start at second base Wednesday, June 4, against the Pittsburgh Pirates in place of the struggling and injured 2B Jedd Gyorko (foot).
Fantasy Tip: Peterson was tearing it up at the plate in Triple-A and could be a welcome source of offense at the big-league level. He is likely to see a majority of his starts at second base, especially if Gyorko hits the 15-day disabled list due to plantar fasciitis. Peterson is worth scooping up in NL-only leagues if you need help at middle infielder.

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said the team could send 2B Jedd Gyorko to Triple-A El Paso for a bit. Gyorko is hitting only .162 with 56 strikeouts in 204 at-bats this year. "For Gyorko, it's more physical than mental," said manager Bud Black. "It's physical as far as his swing." 3B Jace Peterson is starting at second base Wednesday, June 4.
Fantasy Tip: Gyorko should be benched in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for the time being during his season-long slump, but there's no reason to hold onto him right now in shallow formats.

The San Diego Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko on the paternity list Monday, April 28, and recalled OF Tommy Medica from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Gyorko should miss two to three days at the most. Take him out of his lineup until then. With Alexi Amarista now at the hot corner, Jace Peterson could fill in at the keystone in the short term.
