Braves | Jace Peterson sent down

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:36:15 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson was optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett Monday, May 2. SS Chase d'Arnaud, OF Matt Tuiasosopo and SS Reid Brignac were all called up from Gwinnett.

Fantasy Tip: Atlanta has plenty of options for the keystone. Including the recent call-ups, Daniel Castro and Kelly Johnson could also see time at the keystone. As was the case with Peterson, none are really attractive outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues as middle infield depth, though.

Braves | Reid Brignac earns a start

Mon, 02 May 2016 13:30:24 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Reid Brignac is starting at second base and batting sixth against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Monday, May 2. 2B Jace Peterson will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: It'll be Brignac's first start of the year for Atlanta. He hit only .222 (18-for-81) with one home run and 10 RBI for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2015 and is a bottom-of-the-barrel daily option Monday evening. Against the light-hitting Braves, Colon is a nice cheap selection as your second starter in DFS.

Braves | Atlanta resting three starters

Sun, 01 May 2016 10:44:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Daniel Castro, C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Jeff Francoeur are not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Sunday, May 1. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting fifth in the lineup. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting sixth. 3B Adonis Garcia will start in left field, while 2B Jace Peterson will start at third base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is hitting better over the last few days but is not a great option since he has a .186 average this season. Flowers has gone hitless in his last six at-bats but could be used in two-catcher leagues since he is hitting .281 with four RBI. Peterson has struggled at the plate and can be avoided in all leagues.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will see outfield starts

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:32:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will play left field against the majority of right-handed pitchers with 2B/OF Kelly Johnson, 2B Jace Peterson and SS Daniel Castro splitting time between second and third base. OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field against left-handed pitchers with Garcia playing third base.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has a respectable .287/.320/.469 slash line through 269 career plate appearances, and he can provide solid depth in the majority of seasonal leagues. However, he also has just six runs and six RBI to start the season, so there is limited upside. Peterson, Johnson, Castro and Francoeur are nothing more than low-end options in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Braves | Erick Aybar not playing

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:44:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Sunday, April 24. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop in place of Aybar. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base, while 2B Jace Peterson will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has gone 3-for-11 with three RBI over the last seven days but his hitting only .206 on the season. Owners probably could find better options to use in their lineups.

Braves | Daniel Castro, Jeff Francoeur starting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:07:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Daniel Castro is playing second base and hitting second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Tuesday, April 19. OF Jeff Francoeur draws the start in left field and is hitting fifth. OF Kelly Johnson and 2B Jace Peterson will start on the bench against the left-handed pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Castro is more known for his glove than his bat, although he does have some speed. Francoeur has the ability to run into one every so often. Either way you slice it, neither player has much fantasy value today against the Dodgers. Castro has more fantasy upside if you're looking for a deep sleeper.

Braves | Jace Peterson starting in left field

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:49:39 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B/OF Jace Peterson is batting seventh and playing left field against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Sunday, April 17, with INF/OF Kelly Johnson batting sixth and playing second base.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is making his second career start in left field since breaking into professional baseball in 2011. Peterson and Johnson played second base and left field yesterday, respectively, and have flip-flopped positions for Sunday's contests. Both players are off to slow starts at the plate this year and are not recommended fantasy options today.

Braves | Freddie Freeman out of lineup

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:25:00 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is out of the lineup Thursday, April 14, with OF Kelly Johnson shifting to first base and hitting cleanup. 2B Jace Peterson is playing left field and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is off to a 2-for-12 (.167) start and is slated to face Stephen Strasburg. The lineup placement is nice, but he hasn't given enough to warrant the flyer today. Peterson (.167) is also off to a rough start and is a pass today.

Braves | Hector Olivera, Jace Peterson resting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 12:05:11 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Hector Olivera and 2B Jace Peterson are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez Tuesday, April 12. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting fifth, while 2B Gordon Beckham is at the keystone and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Frenchy and Beckham don't have many at-bats to begin the season. Francoeur has some pop and is slightly more attractive in daily games tonight, but both players are nothing more than low-end desperation picks.

Braves | Jace Peterson out Friday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 11:49:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals left-handed SP Jaime Garcia Friday, April 8. 2B Gordon Beckham is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson and Beckham will split time at second base throughout the year, but neither is very attractive to fantasy owners in mixed leagues. Beckham hit a measley .209 with six homers and 20 RBI with the Chicago White Sox last year. Avoid Beckham in daily games today.
