Rays | Mikie Mahtook could miss two months

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 05:11:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Mikie Mahtook (hand) could miss up to two months with a fractured left hand, according to reports.

Fantasy Tip: This is not what the Rays wanted to hear, especially with Kevin Kiermaier also on the shelf with a wrist injury. For now, stash Mahtook in the deepest of the leagues and hope Desmond Jennings eventually hits in his return to the regular lineup.

Rays | Mikie Mahtook sitting vs. Cleveland

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:01:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Mikie Mahtook is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 21. Jaff Decker is starting in right field and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook has a .154/.200/.185 slash line through 70 plate appearances this season, so there is limited fantasy appeal. He's receiving enough playing time of late to be a desperation option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, though. Decker is a fantasy afterthought at this point.

Rays | Mikie Mahtook fractures left hand

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 17:52:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Mikie Mahtook (hand) sustained a fractured left hand Monday, June 20, versus the Cleveland Indians after he was hit by a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunate news for Mahtook, as the second-year outfielder was starting to garner some regular playing time over the past few weeks. Mahtook exhibited flashes of potential a season ago, but will most likely be looking at a lengthy absence as a result of this injury. Desmond Jennings should become a regular in the lineup again due to Tampa Bay's decimated outfield.

Rays | Desmond Jennings back in lineup Sunday

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:03:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is back in the starting lineup versus San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Sunday, June 19. In addition, OF Mikie Mahtook will bat ninth and play right field, while C Hank Conger starts behind the plate for the second consecutive day.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings is batting .184 with five home runs and 15 RBI through 184 at-bats and is just 2-for-15 with seven strikeouts over the past week, while Mahtook is batting .161 with 23 strikeouts in 62 at-bats this season. Avoid using both outfielders today in all fantasy formats.

Rays | Desmond Jennings, Curt Casali out

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 10:12:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings and C Curt Casali are not in the starting lineup versus San Francisco Giants SP Albert Suarez Saturday, June 18. OF Mikie Mahtook will bat seventh and play center field, while C Hank Conger will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is hitting only .172 in 58 at-bats this season, including a .108 mark versus right-handed pitching, so he should be avoided this afternoon. Conger is btating .300 with two home runs and six RBI in 30 at-bats over the past four weeks and can be viewed as a source of productive salary cap relief in DFS.

Rays | Steven Souza not playing Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 12:33:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (hip) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. OF Mikie Mahtook takes his place in right field and is batting ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns.

Fantasy Tip: Souza took a nasty spill during a diving attempt in the outfield Tuesday. Even though X-rays were negative, he could land on the DL. Stay tuned. Mahtook is mainly useful for his speed, but hitting dead last in the batting order negates that. He's not one to click in daily games tonight.

Rays | Corey Dickerson sitting vs. Houston

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:20:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson is not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 12. OF Mikie Mahtook is starting in left field and batting second against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson's 11 home runs are the only thing buoying his fantasy value right now, as he sits with a disastrous .194/.241/.439 slash line for the season. At this point, he's tough to roster. Mahtook owns a career .293/.356/.622 line against southpaws and is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Sunday.

Rays | Three Rays regulars resting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria, OF Steven Souza and 1B Steve Pearce (elbow) are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 7. SS Taylor Motter is starting at third base and is hitting leadoff, OF Mikie Mahtook is in right field and is batting fifth, while SS Tim Beckham is at the 6 and is hitting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke. Also, OF Desmond Jennings moves up to hit third in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pretty ugly offensive arrangement for the Rays against a surging Greinke tonight. None of the Rays options are very attractive for DFS purposes, with Mahtook and Beckham especially unattractive hitting lower in the order. Greinke is absolutely worth paying up for in daily setups despite his poor home numbers this year.

Rays | Desmond Jennings, Curt Casali out

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 10:05:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings and C Curt Casali are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Sunday, June 5. OF Mikie Mahtook will start in center field and is batting first, while C Hank Conger will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is hitting only .136 with one RBI over the last seven days and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Conger has three hits and one RBI on his last two games, but owners should be able to find better fantasy options to use.
