Giants | Danny Salazar not an option for SF

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:22:46 -0800

The San Francisco Giants inquired about Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar, but it isn't happening after the Indians asked for 2B Joe Panik plus four minor league prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Salazar is the Tribe's No. 2 starter but has the strikeout ability to be a low-end fantasy ace in 2016 and beyond. It's hard to see the Indians getting rid of him unless they receive a huge package in return.

Giants | Joe Panik returns to normal routine

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:52:45 -0800

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is reportedly recovered from his ailment and back in his regular training mode.

Fantasy Tip: Considering how back issues can sometimes be very extensive, this is excellent news for Panik, who was having a very nice second season in the big leagues before the injury cut his season short in the latter part of the summer. In 100 games, Panik ended up slashing .312/.378/.456 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, and 59 runs scored. He has the potential to be an upper echelon option at second base in fantasy next season.

Giants | Joe Panik placed on 60-day DL

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 16:49:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: This should end Panik's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) season, and fantasy owners will want to look out for updates this offseason concerning his status entering the 2016 season. Kelby Tomlinson ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) projects to take care of the keystone through the end of this season. He isn't a high-end option by any means, but he does offer a nice .300 batting average through 110 at-bats this season.

Giants | More tests for Joe Panik

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 20:11:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) will have more tests so the team can formulate the best rehab plan.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) still might be shut down for the entire season, so FantasyScore players need not bother with him unless he can officially return and play in at least two straight games without any setbacks.

Giants | Joe Panik likely to be shut down

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 16:57:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is not seeing improvement with his back, and manager Bruce Bochy is leaning toward Panik's season being over. Bochy said he'd "be surprised if he played."

Fantasy Tip: If you haven't already done so, drop Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) for another player that can help your fantasy squad in the final couple of weeks. An MRI exam could confirm that Panik is shut down for the rest of the year tonight.

Giants | Joe Panik has MRI

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 16:31:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) underwent an MRI exam Monday, Sept. 14, but the team is still awaiting the results.

Fantasy Tip: If the MRI results aren't favorable, Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) could be shut down for the rest of the year. Time is running out in the regular season, so if you're in championship contention, consider dumping him and looking for another second baseman.

Giants | Brandon Crawford closer than Joe Panik

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 09:00:17 -0700

San Francisco Giants SS Brandon Crawford (calf, side) is closer to a return to the lineup than 2B Joe Panik (back).

Fantasy Tip: Crawford ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) hasn't played since Sept. 8, and Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been out since Sept. 9. Obviously you'll want to avoid both players on FantasyScore for the foreseeable future, and it's probably smart to avoid them for at least a game or two after they come back.

Giants | Joe Panik out of lineup Friday

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 17:27:35 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Friday, Sept. 11. INF Kelby Tomlinson will play second base and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is 6-for-25 (.240) during the month of September and should only be considered for FantasyScore lineups if you need salary cap relief.

Giants | Joe Panik leaves game

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 22:50:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) left the game Wednesday, Sept. 9, against the Arizona Diamondbacks after the pain in his lower back flared up. He will be re-evaluated Thursday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any lingering effects of his injury.

Giants | Joe Panik back in two-hole

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 16:45:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is back in the starting lineup and is hitting second against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should immediately return to being one of the more consistent hitting second basemen in the league for daily gamers, and a matchup against Anderson on the road shouldn't scare you away in his first start back.
