Giants | Three Giants sitting out

Wed, 04 May 2016 07:43:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy, OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) and 2B Joe Panik (groin) are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 4. OF Gregor Blanco is hitting second, 3B Conor Gillaspie is hitting sixth and 2B Kelby Tomlinson hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco is hitting .333 and is the only one of the trio that has some upside against Dan Straily today.

Giants | Joe Panik gets extra work in

Tue, 03 May 2016 17:10:09 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) added treadmill jogging and agility drills to his activities. He might be available to pinch hit Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Panik has been out the past few games, but it looks like he'll be back very soon, and actually might return to the lineup on Wednesday. In the meantime, Kelby Tomlinson is taking his place at second base, though he's not a recommended option for daily formats with his low ceiling.

Giants | Joe Panik still out Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:06:26 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) is out of the lineup Tuesday, May 3, against the Cincinnati Reds. 2B Kelby Tomlinson is hitting seventh against Reds SP John Lamb.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is getting closer to returning, but the team is erring on the side of caution with his injury. Keep him sidelined until he has shown signs of being fully recovered.

Giants | Joe Panik getting closer

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:45:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) played catch Monday, May 2, and he's also going to try taking grounders that are hit directly at him, as well as hitting off a tee. He's still considered "questionable/doubtful" through Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Panik was out to a nice start this year before landing on the sidelines, so owners shouldn't lose track of him upon his return, which looks like it will be sooner than later. With him out of the lineup, Kelby Tomlinson benefits the most, but isn't really an inspiring option to lean on in any formats.

Giants | Joe Panik unlikely to play Monday

Sun, 01 May 2016 14:58:49 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) won't be ready to play until Tuesday, May 3, at the earliest due to a groin injury, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Panik hasn't played since Friday and apparently won't go in Monday's opener against the Cincinnati Reds either, although it sounds like owners won't have to wait too much longer for him. Kelby Tomlinson should get another start Monday, but he isn't a recommended fantasy option.

Giants | Joe Panik could miss a couple days

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:36:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) will likely miss a game or two because of his groin injury, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Panik said he could pinch hit Saturday, April 30, though.

Fantasy Tip: Panik has been a solid hitter since entering the league with a career .305/.361/.427 slash line. He also has 17 runs, three home runs and 12 RBI through 103 plate appearances to start the season. Don't expect big numbers in the home run and stolen base columns, but Panik is a strong contributor in the other three standard categories. Stay tuned for updates as he works his way back to the starting lineup.

Giants | Joe Panik has minor groin injury

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 10:29:56 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) is not in the starting lineup versus the New York Mets Saturday, April 30, after sustaining a groin injury during the ninth inning of the game Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is being rested as a precautionary measure, so he is not expected to miss much playing time. INF Kelby Tomlinson will play the keystone position Saturday but should not be viewed as a great fantasy option.

Giants | Joe Panik out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 10:07:28 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Saturday, April 30. INF Kelby Tomlinson will bat eighth and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Panik from all fantasy lineups Saturday. Tomlinson has collected just three hits through his first 19 at-bats in 2016 and should only be used as a means of desperation cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Giants | Joe Panik has hip issue

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 10:33:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (hip) banged his hip diving for a ground ball Wednesday, April 13, but he's expected to play again Friday, April 15. Panik is available off the bench Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Panik will be fine. He has one home run in nine games but is hitting a mere .235 (8-for-34). Panik makes consistent contact and doesn't strike out much, but he doesn't run much and lacks power. He's more of middle infield insurance for fantasy owners in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Giants | Joe Panik out against lefty

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:37:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is out of the lineup Thursday, April 14, with Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa on the mound. 2B Kelby Tomlinson is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlinson doesn't have the offensive prowess at this stage to be worth a daily flyer.
