Giants | Joe Panik rehab update

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 17:50:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is scheduled to hit indoors Saturday, Aug. 29, and hit on the field Sunday, Aug. 30. If all goes well, he will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) could return from the disabled list near the conclusion of the team's upcoming road trip, which comes to an end Sept. 9. Kelby Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) are splitting time at the keystone position for now, with Tomlinson being the far better offensive option.

Giants | Joe Panik takes pre-game grounders

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 18:42:07 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) was able to take grounders before the game Wednesday, Aug. 26, and he continues to make progress. He has not had any setbacks, and was able to take swings off a tee Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is still not expected back until the tail end of the team's upcoming road trip, so FantasyScore players be patient. In the meantime, Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) continue to hold down the fort at second base.

Giants | Joe Panik's return delayed

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 17:38:48 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is back with the team in San Francisco, but manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday, Aug. 25, that he does not expect Panik to return to game action until late on the team's next road trip.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players can avoid Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) for a while until he can officially prove his health in a full game and knock off the rust from his layoff. It appears Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will continue to hold down the fort at second base until Panik returns.

Giants | Joe Panik could return next month

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 17:43:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) could be back the first week of September, manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is hitting .309 on the year, but he is looking at being sidelined more than a month, so it isn't a bad idea to take a wait-and-see approach when he returns before using him at Fantasyscore.

Giants | Angel Pagain and Joe Panik rehabbing

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 09:26:50 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (knee) and 2B Joe Panik (back) will go to Arizona to continue their rehabilitation when the Giants begin their road trip.

Fantasy Tip: OF Gregor Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will continue to see regular at-bats with Pagan out. He has stolen four bases and hit three home runs while batting .301 this season. Blanco is an affordable option in daily leagues, but is more valuable in yearly leagues where the batting average and stolen bases make him a fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper leagues. Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has had a good season for a middle infielder, batting .309 with seven home runs and three stolen bases. He needs to be kept in all leagues.

Giants | Joe Panik not close to return

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 18:24:07 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is not expected to return when eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list, according to manager Bruce Bochy. It is at least a week before he can hit, as he has yet to resume baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any lingering effects of his injury. Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) continue to hold down the fort at second base in Panik's stead.

Giants | Joe Panik eyeing two-week absence

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:04:30 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik's (back) MRI exam revealed back inflammation and nothing else unexpected. He is expected to be able to return in two weeks, which would include a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) was having a banner season with a .309/.374/.443 slash line and 116 hits. Ehire Adrianza $1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) have been splitting time at second base with Panik out, and Adrianza in particular could have fleeting value in NL-only formats. FantasyScore players should view each as low-end fliers for contests. Check back for updates on Panik's recovery timeline.

Giants | Joe Panik still waiting for test results

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 18:08:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is still awaiting test results on his MRI. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to his back injury.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain how long Panik will be sidelined, but Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) gets the chance to show what he can do at second base in Panik's stead.

Giants | Joe Panik to undergo MRI

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 14:34:04 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is scheduled to return to San Francisco in order to undergo an MRI and a CAT scan on his injured back.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will be sidelined for at least a few weeks because of the injury, but owners will receive a better timetable after he undergoes the tests. Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson are options to start at second base but are not great fantasy options.

Giants | Joe Panik placed on DL

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 12:36:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 3, because of lower back inflammation. The team also recalled 2B Kelby Tomlinson from Class AAA Sacramento.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Panik's ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) recovery to see when he will be able to return to the lineup. Ehire Adrianza ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Kelby Tomlinson could see playing time while Panik is out. Neither is a great option for owners in most fantasy leagues, but Tomlinson could be an NL-only option because of his speed.
